Ribbon Low Sensor

Description

As an option, the EasyCoder 501 XP and 601 XP printers can be

fitted with a sensor, that detect the rotation of the ribbon unwind

spoolandupdatesacounter.Bymeansofcustom-madeapplication

program, the counter can be read and used to detect ribbon-low

conditions (as opposed to out-of-ribbon conditions, which are

supported by the standard error handling).

Ontheribbonunwindspool,thereisacodediscwith41gaps.When

the spool rotates, the photoelectric sensor detects when the light is

interrupted and decrements a counter. The counter is set at power-

uptoarandomvalueofapproximately65,000andcanbereadusing

SYSVAR (13), see Intermec Fingerprint Reference Manual.

The sensor requires no regular cleaning. However, should any

malfunction be detected, blow the sensor clear from dust or paper

residue before deciding to replace it.

The sensitivity of this sensor cannot be adjusted.
