Overview
The Aero Relay Controller (UAR) controls lighting loads when a received input
from a linked sensor or switch is changed.
The UAR controls loads based on the following:
• switch actions from Aero SmartClick Switch Station
• ambient light levels as monitored by Aero Light Sensor
• occupancy state as monitored by Aero Occupancy Sensor
• input from another Aero device
Placement and Radio Range
The UAR is intended for use with Aero sensors and stations. Consideration
should be made for locating the controllers based on the construction
materials and furniture that may disrupt transmissions. Fire doors, elevator
shafts, stairwells, storage areas and any large metal objects can create radio
shadows and disrupt wireless transmissions.

It is recommended that stations and sensors be placed with in 50 feet (15m) of
the UAR controller for optimal performance.
Installation
The UAR is mounted directly to an electrical junction box or panel at the
electrical lighting load or before the load in the circuit.
Step 1: Locate the circuit breaker panel and turn off the power to the circuit.
Typical Radio Range
Material Range - typical
Line of sight 100 feet (30m) corridors
Line of sight 330 feet (100m) open halls
Plasterboard 100 feet (30m) through 5 walls
Brick 65 feet (20m) through 3 walls
Concrete 65 feet (20m) through 3 walls
FerroConcrete 33 feet (10m)
Ceiling 1 ceiling
Signal Loss
Material Attenuation
Wood/Plaster/Glass 0-10%
Brick/MDF 5-35%
Metal 90-100%
Note:
If the circuit will have an additional hard wired switch, wire the
UAR in series before the switch.
WARNING:
Risk of electric shock! The UAR utilizes high voltage and
should only be installed by a qualified installer or
electrician. Follow all local codes for installation. Before
terminating the AC power wiring verify the main breaker
is in the off position and follow the proper lockout/tag out
procedures per NFPA Standard 70E.
WARNING:
For indoor use only! Must install in an electrical junction
box or wire way.

Step 2: Remove face plates and other hardware from the junction box, gaining
access to the high voltage wiring.
Step 3: The UAR mounts to the exterior of the junction box or panel with the 1/
2” (13mm) threaded nipple.
Step 4: The UAR controller is provided with a wire harness that serves 120,
277, or 347VAC power requirements depending on the wires used for
installation. Refer to the wiring diagram above to connect power to the
controller.
a: For 120VAC applications, connect the black wire to the line input feed
wire. For 277VAC applications, connect the brown wire to the line input
feed wire. For 347VAC applications, connect the yellow wire to the line
input feed wire.
b: Connect the white wire to the incoming neutral wire and the neutral wire
of the lighting load.
c: Connect one of the red wires to the relay input feed wire and the other to
the relay output wire for the lighting load.
Step 5: Replace the junction box face plate and hardware.
CAUTION:
The UAR has an orange external antenna that extends off one
end of the unit. Do not cut, cap, or connect this wire.
Note:
Follow all local code requirements for terminating wiring.
Notice the harness wires on the controller unit are pre-stripped
for your installation convenience.
Note:
Cut and tie back the unused line power wires. Follow all local
code requirements for tieing back unused wires.

Power Up and Test
For detailed programming and configuration information, please reference the
Unison Aero 902 MHz User Programming Guide. ETC documentation is
available for free download at www.etcconnect.com.
Step 1: Restore power to the circuit.
Step 2: Test the circuit by linking a Aero Switch Station.
a: Within radio range of the controller, press the toggle switch up (On) three
times consecutively.
b: Press the toggle switch down (Off) three times consecutively.
c: Press the toggle switch up again, three times consecutively.
Step 3: Test the controller response.
a: Press the toggle switch “Off” once. The controlled lighting should respond
by turning off.
b: Press the toggle switch “On” once. The controlled lighting should respond
by turning on.
Note:
The linking method described in “Step 2” will learn the Aero
Switch to any controllers that are within radio range that do not
already have stations linked to them.
