Welcome to ScanGear CS-U 6.2
Welcome to Canon ScanGear CS-U 6.2.
ScanGear CS-U 6.2 (hereafter referred to as ScanGear CS-U) will provide
flexible, efficient image enhancement tools for scanning with your
CanoScan N670U/N676U/N1240U Scanner by providing an interface with a
variety of software applications.
ScanGear CS-U has a number of powerful features that help you achieve
peak performance with your scanner. Using ScanGear CS-U, you can
preview and adjust an image before the image is scanned and acquired by
the parent software application.
Normally when you start a scanning job, you will see the ScanGear CS-U
main window with its toolbar, Preview Area, and tabs.
However, some software applications may not open the ScanGear CS-U
main window. When this occurs you cannot use the settings described in
this user’s guide because the host software application will provide the
settings so you can change the image after it is acquired. When a software
application uses ScanGear CS-U without opening the ScanGear CS-U main
window, this is called the windowless mode.

The hardware and software listed below is required to use ScanGear
CS-U.

Computer: IBM PC/AT Compatible with USB port(s) standardly
OS: Windows 98
Windows Millenium Edition
Windows 2000 Professional
CPU: Pentium 150MHz or greater
RAM: 64MB or more
HDD Free Space: Approx. 10MB (When Installation) or more
Display: 800 x 600 dots
High Color (16 bit) or greater
Interface: USB 1.1
CD-ROM Drive: Necessary
• USB Expansion card is not guaranteed.

Starting and Closing ScanGear CS-U
ScanGear CS-U is not a stand-alone program that can be started by itself. It
is used as a TWAIN driver (Windows) or plug-in (Macintosh). Start the
application program first, then start ScanGear CS-U from the program.
When starting ScanGear CS-U, confirm that the scanner is
correctly connected to the computer.
Windows
Starting
1. Start the TWAIN-compliant application software such as PhotoStudio
or Photoshop.
< If you have installed another scanner or a digital camera, select this
scanner. >
a. Click the [File] menu and select [Select Source] or such.
b. Click to highlight [CanoScan N670U/N676U] or [CanoScan
N1240U] and click [Select].
2. Click the [File] menu and select [Acquire] or such.
ScanGear CS-U will start.
Closing
Click the (close box) in the ScanGear CS-U window.

Starting
1. Start the parent application software such as PhotoStudio or
Photoshop.
2. Click the [File] menu and select [Acquire] or such, and [ScanGear CS-
U 6.2.0...].
ScanGear CS-U will start.
Closing
When scanning is completed, the ScanGear CS-U window automatically
closes (Macintosh only).
If the “Automatically quit ScanGear CS-U after scanning” (☞p.39) is
off, click the (close box) in the ScanGear CS-U window.
