CAUTION

;The Medalist In-circuit Test System should only

be installed by an Agilent-Authorized Service

Representative.

Testhead boot conflicts may occur if this system is

on a network with Medalist 3070 UNIX

controllers with IP addresses other than in the

10.3.112.XX series.

CAUTION

;The Medalist test development software requires

that decimals in the board file use a period (.) and

not any other character such as a comma. Make

use that Windows is set to use a period for

decimals. (Select Control Panel > Regional and

Language Options > Regional Options tab. Click

Customize; in the Numbers tab ensure that the

selected Decimal symbol is a period.)

Getting Started

Getting Started 1 Verify that site preparation is complete.

a View the customer’s completed Site Preparation

checklist.

b Obtain a copy of the system plan drawing.

2 Check for shipping damage.

If shipping damage is found, contact your local

Agilent representative.

3 Uncrate the system.

4 Check the system and the contents of all crates

and boxes against the order.

Check that:

■A support bay is included with four-module

systems to hold DUT power supplies.

■The strip printer and licenses are included.

■The bag on the testhead contains:

• a pod key,

• a probe cradle,

• a certificates of calibration,

• a certificate of hardware address for the System

Card, and

• configuration printouts.

■The bag on the testhead cradle contains:

• a female quick-disconnect compressed air

fitting, and

• an Installation Kit (it contains various tools and

parts).

Setting Up the Support Arm with Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse

Setting Up the

Support Arm with

Monitor, Keyboard,

and Mouse

The default location for the controller’s monitor,

keyboard and mouse support arm is on the right side of

the testhead, when facing the testhead from the front.

If the preferred location of the support arm is on the left

side, the pod cover(s) must be removed, then the

monitor, keyboard and mouse wiring must be re-routed.

■Install the Support Arm, Monitor, Keyboard, and

Mouse, 1-5

■Adjust the Support Arm, 1-14

Safety Precautions

Pinch hazard locations when performing the following

procedures include the following.

Figure 1-1 Pinch hazard locations

This label on the machine indicates the location

of a pinch hazard that may cause minor or

moderate injury if the warning is ignored.

Do not place your fingers between

the collar and support arm when

adjusting the height of the arm.

Do not place your fingers between

the monitor support and the support

arm when rotating the support arm.

Do not place your fingers near the

hinges when moving the keyboard

tray up or down.

Setting Up the Support Arm with Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse

Install the Support Arm, Monitor, Keyboard, and

Mouse

Follow the instructions in Table 1-1.

Table 1-1 Install the support arm, monitor, keyboard, mouse

Task

1 Remove the two shipping bolts.

Do this so that the testhead can be rotated. Figure 1-3 on page 1-13 shows the location of the shipping bolts.

CAUTION

;Remove the shipping bolts before attempting to rotate the testhead. Otherwise, damage can result.

Shipping bolts can be stored for later use in the holes used by the testhead pallet shipping brackets.

2 If the support arm will be installed on the left (non-default) side, follow the steps for this task. Otherwise, continue with

task 3.

CAUTION

;Before rotating the testhead, remove all objects from the rotational path of the testhead. Damage could

result if the testhead hits anything while being rotated.

Remove the pod cover:

a If testhead connectors (BNC) are visible over the pod cover, rotate the testhead about 10 degrees to allow the pod cover

to be removed.

Apply PDU power to activate the testhead rotation switch. See Powering the PDU and Controller on page 1-19.

b Use a T20 Torx driver to remove the pod cover screws and then remove the pod cover.

c Remove power to the PDU if connected.

Setting Up the Support Arm with Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse

3 Install the pole mount assembly.

a Pry the plastic square plug (if present) from the column of the testhead cradle where the pole mount assembly will be

installed.

b Install the pole mount assembly in the column.

c Open the pod door (if installing on the right).

Secure the pole mount assembly to the cradle with the

screws and washers provided.

6 Install the monitor.

a Remove the four screws on the monitor stand and

remove the monitor stand.

b Secure the monitor onto the monitor support with the

screws provided. Tighten the screws by hand.

c To adjust the height of the monitor, loosen the screw on

the monitor support using an Allen key.

7 Install keyboard and mouse.

To position the mouse on the right, route the mouse and keyboard cables through the hole on the right side of the

keyboard tray. (Do the opposite to position the mouse on the left.)

Setting Up the Support Arm with Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse

8 Route the monitor, keyboard and mouse cables:

CAUTION

;If the cables are not routed with enough slack (between 130 - 150 cm), they can be damaged when the

support arm is moved.

NOTE

The keyboard and mouse have cables which are long enough to allow installation on the left side.

For two- and four-module systems, a second video monitor cable is pre-installed to accommodate support

arm installation on the left side. For one-module systems, the existing video monitor cable is long enough

to reach to the left side. Re-route it through the testhead cable troughs.

It may be necessary to obtain a 8120-1763 power cord extension cable to connect power from the PDU to

the video monitor. Route the power cable through the testhead cable trough.
