Assembly

WARNING: Do not plug in the cleaner

until it is assembled.

1Carefully unpack all components.

2Lift cleaner body to upright position.

3Remove the two screws that are already

attached to the body.

4From the rear of the cleaner, align the

handle with groove and slide into the

body. If necessary, use thumb and finger

pressure to slide handle into position.

5Fasten the handle with the two screws.

Floor nozzle height

adjustment

Before using the cleaner the floor nozzle

height must be set to the correct height.

Choose the setting which most closely

matches your floor surface, ie. deep carpet

pile, medium carpet pile, short carpet pile or

hard floor.

• When using the attachments the cleaner

must only be used in an upright position

with the carpet height adjustment knob

set to DEEP CARPET.

Note: The height adjustment only comes

into effect when the handle is released by

the handle release pedal Â.

Using on carpets

1Place cleaner in its upright position.

2Set the carpet height adjustment knob to

the desired position.

3Release the mains cable by revolving the

quick release cleat 1/2a turn and extend

the cable fully.

4Plug the cable into the mains socket.

5Step on the handle release pedal to

release the handle to the desired

position.

6Press the on/off button to the ‘on’

position.

IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to

carpets, never leave the cleaner switched on

in one place for an extended period.

•Never have the brushes set too low such

that the cleaner is hard to push.

Using attachments

Follow steps 1-4 above but set the carpet

height adjustment knob to the deep carpet

setting.

5Remove the hose connector ›from the

rear of the cleaner. Lift the hose ¤from

the top handle hook and push the

required attachment onto the end of the

hose.

•Push the required attachment firmly onto

the end of the hose.

•If additional length is required, attach one

or both extension tubes between the

hose and tool.

6Switch on/off.

•IMPORTANT: Always fix the hose clip È

to the main body slot Ëwhen using the

hose and tools.

•Never over extend the hose such that the

cleaner is pulled over.

•Turning the cleaner sideways helps

prevent the cleaner being pulled along by

the stretch hose.

Dust bag indicator

When the cleaner is switched on, if the

dust bag condition indicator is continuously

showing red (or if the suction is reduced) the

bag must be replaced and the filters

cleaned.

If it is still showing red after emptying the

dust bag and cleaning the filters, check to

see if the hose is blocked.

Changing the dust

bag

1Unplug the power cable from the socket.

2Remove the front by pressing the release

lever at the top.

3Remove the old dustbag by holding the

cardboard tab and pull towards you.

Remove carefully to avoid dust/dirt

spilling from the dust bag and dispose.

4Take a new dust bag and fold over the

top tab at the crease. Holding the

cardboard tab, push the bag over the

opening of the dirt discharge tube until it

is seated against the rear of the

enclosure.

5The front panel will not close unless the

dust bag is correctly fitted due to the

safety bag interlock. ÍAlways check

and if necessary clean the pre-motor filter

every time your change the dust bag.

6Once the new dust bag is in place,

replace the front panel by aligning the

bottom locking tabs with the slots in the

body, close cover slowly allowing the

front panel to snap in place. The latch will

self lock.

Cleaning the pre-motor filter

Everytime a new bag is fitted, the filter

should be taken out and cleaned. Failure to

clean the filter will reduce suction and will

damage the motor if used for prolonged

periods. This may invalidate the guarantee. If

the filter becomes damaged it must be

replaced.

IMPORTANT: Do not operate the cleaner

without the filter in place.

1Remove the front cover of the cleaner.

2The pre-motor filter is located below the

bag.

3To remove the filter, slide the holder out of

the machine.

4Remove the filter from the holder by

unclipping. To clean shake vigorously

over a dustbin.

*The pre-motor filter may also be washed

in warm water.

*Do not use detergents. The filter must be

completely dry before refitting. Allow the

filter to dry naturally, do not overheat.

5Replace front cover.

ÍE

Replacing the HEPA

exhaust filter

The HEPA exhaust filter should be

replaced every 6 months.

•Replacement filters can be purchased

from our replacement parts helpline.

1Remove the front grille Fto access the

HEPA filter.

Safety cut-out

If the cleaner overheats a motor

protection thermostat will automatically

switch the motor off. If this happens, switch

the cleaner off, unplug from the power

supply and leave the cleaner to cool for

at least 30 minutes. Check the airways for

blockages, empty dust canister and clean

the filters before restarting.

Changing the belt

If the brush bar stops rotating it is likely

that the drive belt has snapped (usually

because the brush has been stalled). A spare

belt is supplied. Replacement belts can also

be obtained from Morphy Richards.

Removing the floor nozzle

cover

1Disconnect the cleaner from the mains

supply.

2Press the handle release pedal and place

the cleaner face down, in the flat position

on a soft surface (eg carpet).

3Use a cross-head screwdriver to remove

the four screws indicated G.

4Turn the cleaner over.

5While pressing the handle release

pedal lift the rear of the top cover,

unhook from the front then completely

remove the cover H.

73340 Rev 1 4/3/05 10:29 AM Page 6

Replacing the belt

6Lift off the belt cover Î.

7Gently pull the right hand side (belt side)

of the floor nozzle outwards and at the

same time lift the brush bar Ïout of its

location I.

8If the belt has broken, ensure all pieces

are removed. Clean the motor shaft Ì.

9Check the brush bar end caps. Ó

10 Fit the left hand end cap into the floor

nozzle.

11 Fit the right hand end cap onto the brush

bar.

12 Place one end of the new belt over the

motor shaft Ìand the other around the

pulley end of the brush Ï.

13 Locate the left hand side of the brush bar

first, then while pulling the right hand side

of the nozzle gently outwards and

stretching the belt, lower the right hand

side of the brush into its location.

14 Rotate the brush by hand to ensure it is

correctly and securely located.

15 IMPORTANT: Re-fit the belt cover.

16 Replace the top cover, hooking it in at the

front first and by pressing the handle

release pedal to allow the rear to

correctly locate K.

17 Turn the cleaner face down and re-fit and

tighten the four fixing screws, do not

overtighten.

18 Return the cleaner to its correct working

position before re-testing.
