INTRODUCTION

The MS5145 Eclipseis a single-line, ha nd-held laser scanner.

Equipped with Metrologic’s patented CodeGatetech nology, Eclipsecan be

used in a wide variety of applications. CodeGate techn ology allo ws the user to

easily tar get the desired bar code and comp lete the data transmission with a

simple press of a button. This combination makes Eclipsea perfect selection

for menu scanning, point-of-sale, docum ent proc essing and inventor y co ntrol.

With Metrologic’s state-of-the-art scanni ng tech nology embedded ins ide, the

MS5145 Eclipseh as a longer working rang e an d a wider scan field than a

typcial CC D. T he width of the scan li ne grows as the scanner moves further away

from bar codes. In addition, the laser beam pulses mak ing lining up bar c odes

easy, and when the scanner senses a bar code (CodeSe nse™ Mode), the las er

beam automatic ally switches to scan mode and activ ates Code Gate to ensure

high-speed scanning a nd acc uracy.

Many of the standard features inc lude: Po werLink User-replaceable cables, Bits

‘n’ Pieces™ data editing, User Friendly Programming using MetroSel ect™ bar

codes, or MetroSet 2 Windows-based configuration utility.

QUICK START

1. Connect the 10-pin RJ45 plu g into the jack on the EclipseMS5145. You

will hear a ‘c lick’ when the connection is made.

2. Connect the L-shaped plug of the p ower supply into the power jack on the

PowerLink cable.

3. Connect the power supply i nto an AC outlet. Make sur e the AC input

requirements of the power supply match the AC outlet.

(See caution statement below)

4. When the MS5145 is ready to scan, the gree n LED will turn on, the red LED

will flas h and the scan ner will beep once.

5. The MS5145‘s operation is automatic. The laser pulses on and off. The

green LED remains on during normal pulse operatio n and it bli nks duri ng

power save mode.

Operational Test

6. Place a bar cod e in front of the scanning window. While aiming at the bar

code with the blinking laser beam, press the CodeGatebutton, scan ner will

beep onc e an d flash the re d LED if the bar code was successfully decoded.

7. The scanner is shipped from the factory programmed with default settings.

To configure the MS5145 scanner to meet the host system’s spec ific ne eds,

refer to the Programming Guide or custom configuration guide for

instructions on how to change the scanners default settings.

Caution:

To maintain compliance with federal regulations 21 CFR, Part 1040.10, section (f)(6) the scanner

must be plugged into an electrical outlet with a switch accessible to the user or be powered by a host

system containing a switch that will disable power to the scanner.

STANDARD RS232 SCANNER INSTALLATION

1. Turn off the host system.

2. Connect the 10-pin RJ45 plug of the PowerLink cable into the jack on the

MS5145 RS2 32 scan ner.

Note: If the MS5145 is receiving power from the host system, skip to step

#5. (See caution statement below*)

3. Connect the L-shaped plug of the p ower supply into the po wer jack on the

PowerLink cable. (See caution statement below**)

4. Make sure the AC input requirements of the power supply match the AC

outlet. Connect the p ower suppl y into an AC outlet.

5. Connect the PowerLink cable to the proper port on the h ost system.

6. Turn on the host system

7. When the MS5145 is ready to scan, the green LED will turn on, the red LE D

will flas h and the scan ner wil l bee p once.

Manufacturer’s Note:

Plugging the scanner into a port on the host system do es not guarantee that the

scanned i nformation will be communicated prop erly to the host system. The

scanner an d/or the host s ystem may need to be configured for communications

to occur.

Caution:

To maintain compliance with applicable standards, all circuits connected to the scanner must meet

the requirements for SELV (Safety Ext ra Low Voltage) according to EN 60950.

*To maintain compliance with standard CSA C22.2 No. 60950/UL 60950 and norm EN 60950, the

power source should meet applicable performance requirements for a limited power source.

**To maintain compliance with federal regulations 21 CFR, Part 1040.10, section (f)(6) the scanner

must be plugged into an electrical outlet with a switch accessible to the user or be powered by a host

system containing a switch that will disable power to the scanner.

KEYBOARD WEDGE SCANNER INST ALLATION

1. Turn off the host system.

2. Connect the 10-pin RJ45 plug of the PowerLink cable into the jack on the

MS5145.

3. Disconnect the keyboard from the host system.

4. Connect the L-shaped plug of the p ower supply into the po wer jack on the

PowerLink cable (refer to the manufacturer’s recommendation and Note on

page 6).

5. Make sure the AC input requirements of the power supply match the AC

outlet. Connect the po wer supply into an AC outlet (see caution statement

on page 6**).

6. The PowerLink “Y” cable is termin ated with a 5-pin DIN female connector on

one end, and a 6-pin mini DIN male on t

KEYBOARD WEDGE INSTALLATION (CONTINUED)

Manufacturer’s Recommendation

If the keyboard port of the host system ca nnot suppl y enough current, the use of

an external power su pply with the MS5 145 Keyb oard W edge wil l be necessary.

Powering the MS5145 directly from the computer keyboard connector could

interfere with the operation of the scanner or the computer. Not all computers

supply the same curr ent throug h the keyboard port, so a scanner may work on

one com puter and not another (see caution statement on page 5).

**To maintain compliance with federal regulations 21 CFR, Part 1040.10, section (f)(6) the scanner

must be plugged into an electrical outlet with a switch accessible to the user or be powered by a host

system containing a switch that will disable power to the scanner

Note: The center of the L-Shaped plug of the power supply is negative (“-“).
