Ground Clamp Replacement

Introduction

Purpose

Powermax30 and Powermax45 systems: This Field Service Bulletin describes the steps necessary to replace the

ground clamp on the Powermax30 or Powermax45 work lead.

Powermax30 XP, Powermax30 Air, and Powermax45 XP systems: Complete instructions for installing this repair

kit are included in the Powermax30 XP (808150), Powermax30 Air (808850), and Powermax45 XP (809230) Service

Disconnect electrical power before performing any maintenance.

All work requiring removal of the power supply cover must be performed

by a qualified technician.

Ground Clamp Replacement

Replace the ground clamp

1. Set the power switch to OFF (O), disconnect the power cord from the power source, and disconnect the gas supply.

2. Slide down the black plastic sleeve on the handle of the clamp where the work lead is connected.

3. Straighten out the bent tab or tabs that hold the work lead in place. See Figure 1.

4. Loosen the screw that connects the work lead to the clamp.

5. Remove the work lead from the clamp, and discard the old clamp.

6. On the replacement clamp, slide down the black plastic sleeve on the handle of the clamp where you want to

connect the work lead.

You can attach the work lead to either of the clamp’s handles.

7. Thread the work lead through the plastic sleeve you removed in the previous step and then through the slots inside

the handle that act as a strain relief.

8. Line up the hole in the wire terminal with the hole in the handle of the ground clamp.

9. Insert the screw through the handle and the ring terminal on the end of the lead, and fasten it with the nut. Tighten the

screw to 34.6 kg-cm (30 inch-pounds).

10. Secure the work lead wire in the handle by folding one or both metal tabs over the wire, depending on the thickness

of the work lead.

11 . Slide the plastic sleeve over the handle of the new ground clamp.

12. Reconnect the gas supply and power cord, and set the power switch to ON (I).

For thicker work leads,

fold both metal tabs over the wire.

For thinner work leads,

dress the wire to one side of the handle

and fold one metal tab over the wire.

doivent être effectués par un technicien qualifié.

Remplacement de pince de masse

Remplacement de la pince de masse

1. Couper l’alimentation (OFF) (O), débrancher le cordon d’alimentation de la source de courant et débrancher

l’alimentation en gaz.

2. Faire glisser le manchon en plastique noir sur la poignée du collier à l’endroit où le câble de retour est connecté.

3. Redresser la ou les languettes repliées qui maintiennent en place le câble de retour. Consulter la Figure 3.

4. Desserrer la vis qui fixe le câble de retour à la pince.

5. Retirer le câble de retour du collier et jeter la pince usagée.

6. Sur la pince de rechange, glisser le manchon en plastique noir sur la poignée de la pince à l’endroit où le câble

de retour doit être connecté.

Il est possible de fixer le câble de retour à n’importe laquelle des poignées de la pince.

7. Faire passer le câble de retour au travers du manchon en plastique retiré à l’étape précédente, puis ensuite

au travers des rainures qui se trouvent sur l’intérieur de la poignée et qui agissent comme serre-câble.

8. Aligner le trou de la cosse de connexion avec le trou de la poignée de la pince de masse.

9. Insérer la vis dans la poignée et dans la cosse ronde à l’extrémité du câble et fixer le tout avec l’écrou. Serrer l’écrou

à un couple de 34,6 kg cm.

10. Fixer solidement le câble de retour dans la poignée en repliant une ou les deux languettes métalliques sur le câble

(selon le diamètre du câble).

11 . Faire glisser le manchon en plastique sur la poignée de la pince de masse.

12. Rebrancher l’alimentation en gaz et le cordon d’alimentation, puis régler l’interrupteur d’alimentation sur

marche (ON) (I).

Les câbles de plus fort diamètre exigeront

que les deux languettes soient repliées.

Pour les câbles plus petits, placer le câble sur

un côté de la poignée et replier une seule

languette métallique sur le câble.
