userscanreadilyextendHDTVsourcesfromDVDplayers,Blu‐rayDiscplayer,PS3,PC,andanyother

kindsofsourcescompliantwithTMDStodistantdisplaymonitorsincludingHDMIorDVI‐enabledTV

setsorLCDPCmonitors.ThiscosteffectiveflexibilitymakesHDCPcompliantBlu‐rayDiscplayersor

PS3transmithighqualityaudioandvideowithagreaterdistanceattheminimalcost,when

integratingseveralcomponentsapart.

TheHD‐C5includestwounits:transmittingandreceivingunits.Thetransmittingunitisusedto

transfertheHDMI/DVIsignalsinputandcarrythesignalsthroughtwolowcostCat‐5e/6cables.The

receivingunitisresponsibleforequalizingtransferredHDMImultimediadata.Thetransmission

distancebetweenthesendingandreceivingunitscanbeupto60m(200ft)underHD(720p/1080i)or

40m(130ft)underFullHD(1080p).Withan8‐levelequalizationrotarycontrolswitchonthe

receivingunit,userscanadjusttheequalizationstrengthtothereceivedHDMIsignalsaccordingly,

andthereforeoptimizethetransmissiondistancebetweenHDMIsourceanddisplay.

4. MakesurethesetwoCat‐5e/6cablesaretightlyconnectedandnotloose.

5. Plugin5VDCpowersupplyunittothepowerjackonthereceivingunitonHD‐C5.

6. Ifyouseeflickeringorblinkingimageonthedisplay,trytoadjusttherotarycontrolswitchto

improvethecableskew.0standsforthestrongestHDMIsignallevelforlongestpossible

transmissionlengthwhile7standsfortheweakestHDMIsignallevelforshorttransmission

length.Tryadjustingthesignallevelfrom7to0tofindtheoptimalsettingfortheHDMIover

CAT5/RJ45transmission.



HARDWARE INSTALLATION

1. IftheDVIorHDMIdevicerequirestheEDIDinformation,pleaseuseEDIDReader/Writerto

retrieveandprovideEDIDinformationoftheDVIorHDMIdisplay.

2. AllHDMIoverCAT5transmissiondistancesaremeasuredusingBelden1583ACAT5e125MHz

UTPcableandASTRODESIGNVideoSignalGeneratorVG‐859C.

3. ThetransmissionlengthislargelyaffectedbythetypeofCat‐5/5e/6cables,thetypeofHDMI

sources,andthetypeofHDMIdisplay.ThetestingresultshowssolidUTPcables(usuallyinthe

formof300mor1,000ftbulkcables)cantransmitalotlongersignalsthanstrandedUTPcables

(usuallyintheformoffixedlengthpatchcords).AsolidUTPCat‐5ecableshowslonger

transmissionrangethanastrandedSTPCat‐6cable.Forlongextensionapplications,solid

UTP/STPcablesaretheonlyviablechoice.

4. EIA/TIA‐568‐Btermination(T568B)forCat‐5e/6cablesisrecommendedforbetterperformance.

5. ToreducetheinterferenceamongtheunshieldedtwistedpairsofwiresinCat‐5e/6cables,

doubleshieldedSTPcablesarebettersuitedthanunshieldedUTPcablestoimproveEMI

problems,whichisworseninlongtransmission.

6. BecausethequalityoftheCat‐5e/6cableshasthemajoreffectonhowlongthetransmission

limitcanachieveandhowgoodisthereceivedpicturequality,theactualtransmissionrangeis

subjecttoone’schoiceofCat‐5e/6cables.Fordesiredresolutionsgreaterthan1080ior

1280x1024,aCat‐6cableisrecommended.

7. IfyourHDMIdisplayhasmultipleHDMIinputs,itisfoundthatthefirstHDMIinput(HDMIinput

1)generallycanproducebettertransmissionperformanceamongallHDMIinputs.


