About This Guide
Welcome
Congratulations on choosing the NHL-2342NF 4-port 10/100 LAN and 1-port fiber
WAN 802.11n Wireless VoIP Gateway, the next generation in broadband service
fiber to the home devices.
The NHL-2342NF Triple-Play VoIP Gateway allows users to play three types of
content service on one device including high speed Internet (data), VoIP (voice), and
Video on Demand/Video Conference/IPTV (video). Superior scalability and flexibility
means broadband subscribers using the NHL-2342NF that only need partial content
service, either data, voice, or video in the beginning, can easily allow ISPs to disable
one service via remote setup and then enable service again when subscribers need
it. Through this auto-provisioning feature, subscribers using the NHL-2342NF can
change their content service at any time via remote on-line log in. The billing system
will be adjusted automatically according to the changed service. Subscribers do not
have to go to ISPs’ front desk to change their service in person thus saving both
subscribers and ISPs significant time and cost.
Unlike unmanaged media converters and switches that leave all connected ports
down when one port is down, the NHL-2342NF features port isolation to help prevent
“one down all down” network operation disasters. The Triple-Play VoIP Gateway
supports remote in-band management that helps ISPs manage their complex
networks easily and reduce both CAPEX and OPEX significantly. With unpredictable
operational issues occurring all the time in today’s broadband network, the NHL-
2342NF enables ISPs to offer increased network performance and subscriber
satisfaction.
Purpose
This guide discusses how to install and configure your 802.11n Wireless VoIP
Gateway.
Terms/ Usage
In this guide, the term “Gateway” (first letter upper case) refers to the NHL-2342NF
802.11n Wireless VoIP Gateway.

Installation
The location chosen for installing the Gateway may greatly affect its performance.
When selecting a site, we recommend considering the following rules:
•Install the Gateway in an appropriate place. See Technical Specifications for
the acceptable temperature and humidity ranges.
•Install the Gateway in a location that is not affected by strong electromagnetic
field generators (such as motors), vibration, dust, and direct sunlight.
•Leave at least 10cm of space at the front and rear of the unit for ventilation.
•Affix the provided rubber pads to the bottom of the Gateway to protect the
case from scratching.
•Refer to the NHL-234xNF Quick Installation Guide for instructions on
installing the fiber WAN.

Powering On the Gateway
The Gateway uses an AC power supply 100~240V AC, 50~60 Hz. The power on/off
button is located at the rear of the unit. The Gateway’s power supply automatically
self-adjusts to the local power source and may be powered on without having any or
all LAN segment cables connected.
1. Insert the power cable plug directly into the receptacle located at the back of
the device.
2. Plug the power adapter into an available socket.
3. Push the power button to power on device.
Note: For international use, you may need to change the AC power adapter
cord. You must use a power cord set that has been approved for the
receptacle type and electrical current in your country.
4. Check the front-panel LEDs as the device is powered on to verify that the
Power LED is lit. If not, check that the power cable is correctly and securely
plugged in.

LED Indicators
This NHL-2342NF is equipped with a variety of LEDs to enable users to determine
the current status and display what is happening on all of the connections. They are
as follows:
Power/System Status
POWER (Green/Red)
Green On: Power and system are on.
Green Off: Power off.
Red On: System error.
WAN
WAN (Green)
Green On: Link successful.
Green Blinking: Data transmitting.
Green Off: Link off or device power off.
WLAN/WPS
WLAN (Green/Orange)
Green on: Wireless on.
Green off: Wireless off.
Green blinking at 4Hz/s: Wireless traffic indicator.
Orange blinking at 4Hz/s: WPS is being configured.
Internet
INTERNET (Green/Red)
Green on: IP connected. The device has a WAN IP address from IPCP
or DHCP and fiber is linked or a static IP address is configured, PPP
negotiation has successfully completed – if used – and fiber is linked)
and no traffic is detected. If the IP or PPPoE session is dropped due to
an idle timeout, the light will remain green if a fiber connection is still
present. If the session is dropped for any other reason, the light is
turned off. The light will turn red when it attempts to reconnect and
DHCP or PPPoE fails.
