1 Getting started
Introduction
This chapter gives you a brief overview of the main features and components of the TG234. After this chapter we will start
with the installation.
In this chapter
This chapter covers the following topics:
Do not connect any cables to the TG234 until instructed to do so.

DMS3-CTC-25-221 v1.0
1.1 Features at a glance
Real-time data and video bridge
The TG234 features a IEEE 802.11ac 5 GHz wireless interface with four transmitting and four receiving antennas (4x4) that
can be used as access point, repeater, station (client).
This makes it the ideal solution for transmitting HD video over wireless to other 4x4 IEEE 802.11ac 5 GHz wireless devices.
The TG234 supports up to four High Definition (HD) TV channels, and as such reduces wiring complexity within the entire
home.
Wireless Protected Setup (WPS)
The TG234 supports WPS. This means that you can easily connect the TG234 to other devices just by pressing a few
buttons. No need to enter lengthy and complex passwords!
TG234 advanced configuration
If you are a more advanced user and you want to further fine-tune the TG234 to your needs, you can use the TG234
Graphical User Interface (GUI) to configure your TG234 via your web browser. For more information, see “3.1 Configure the
TG234 via its GUI” on page 19.
Selected Technicolor gateways (for example, the Technicolor MediaAccess TG799vn v2) allow you to access and
configure the wireless settings of the TG234 via the MediaAccess Gateway GUI, instead of via the TG234 GUI.
For more information, see “3.2 Configuring the TG234 via your Technicolor Gateway” on page 31.

1.2.2 Local network connection
Introduction
The TG234 provides your local network connection through:
5 GHz wireless access
Ethernet port
Wireless access point
The IEEE 802.11ac 5 GHz wireless access point adds 5 GHz wireless access to your home network, or allows to set up
wireless connections between different devices.
For more information, see “4 The TG234 wireless access point” on page 36.
Ethernet port
The Ethernet ports (GbE1 and GbE2) allow you to connect an Ethernet device to the wireless video bridge.
TG234
GbE2GbE1
This Ethernet port requires the use of a full-wired CAT-5(E) (or better) Ethernet cable (like the one that delivered
with your TG234) to guarantee network connectivity.
If you are not sure of your Ethernet cables, you can use the Ethernet cable that is delivered with your TG234.
