SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions shall always be followed, including the following:
1. Read all instructions.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces.
Use handles or knobs.
3. Connect the appliance to out-
lets with a grounding contact
only. Electrical voltage must be
120 V.
4. Your appliance is intended for
domestic use inside
the home only at an altitude
below 3400 m.
5. Toprotectagainstre,electric
shock and injury to persons
donotimmersecord,plugs
or appliance in water or other
liquid. Never touch cord with wet
hands.Donotoverllwatertank.
6. Close supervision is necessary
when any appliance is used
near children. Keep appli-
ance/power cord/capsule
holder out of reach of children.
Children should not use the
appliance.
7. Thiscoeemachineisnot
intended for use by: children;
orpersonswhomaysuer
from a mental and/or physi-
cal impairment - unless they
are adequately supervised
in its operation and use by a
person responsible for their
safety.

8. Unplug from outlet when not
in use.
9. Unplug from outlet before
cleaning. Allow to cool before
puttingonortakingoparts,
and before cleaning the appli-
ance. Never clean wet or im-
merseapplianceinanyuid.
Never clean the appliance
with running water. Never use
detergents to clean the appli-
ance.
10. After use of the appliance
always remove the capsule
and clean the capsule holder.
Empty and clean drip tray and
capsule bin daily.
11. Donotturnotheappliance
during descaling process.
Rinse the water tank and clean
the appliance to avoid any
residual descaling agent.
12. Anyoperation,cleaningand
care other than normal use
must be undertaken by after-
sales service centers approved
by NESCAFÉ®Dolce Gusto®
Hotline.
13. In case of intensive use with-
outallowingsucientcooling
time,theappliancewillstop
functioning temporarily with
the red indicator light blinking.
This is to protect your appli-
ance from overheating.
Switchtheapplianceofor20
minutes to let it cool down.
14. Do not operate any appliance
with a damaged cord or plug
or after the appliance malfunc-
tions,orhasbeendamaged
in any manner. Unplug cord
immediately. Return appli-
ance to the nearest authorized
service facility approved by
NESCAFÉ®Dolce Gusto®Hot-
lineforexamination,repairor
adjustment.
15. Do not dismantle appliance
and do not put anything into
openings.
16. The use of accessory attach-
ments not recommended
by the appliance manufac-
turermayresultinre,electric
shock or injury to persons.
17. Do not use outdoors.
18. Do not let cord hang over
edgeoftableorcounter,or
touch hot surfaces or sharp
edges.
Do not allow cord to dangle
(risk of tripping up).
19. Do not place on or near a hot
gasorelectricburner,orina
heated oven.
20.Todisconnect,turnanycontrol
to«o«,thenremoveplug
from wall outlet. Do not unplug
by pulling the cord.
21. Do not use appliance for other
than intended use. Appliance
is for household use only (non
commercial areas). Appliance
must be used in accordance
with instructions.

use or failure to comply with

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
23. We recommend using the
NESCAFÉ®Dolce Gusto®cap-
sules designed and tested for
the NESCAFÉ®Dolce Gusto®
machine. They were designed
to interact together - the
interaction provides the in-cup
quality that NESCAFɮDolce
Gusto®is known for. Each cap-
sule is designed to prepare
aperfectcup,andcannotbe
reused.
24. Do not remove hot capsules
by hand. Use capsule holder
handle and turn it upside
down to dispose of used cap-
sules.
25. Always close extraction head
with capsule holder. Do not
pull out capsule holder before
indicator stops blinking.
26. Scalding may occur if the lever
is opened during the brewing
cycles.
27.Donotputngersunderoutlet
during beverage preparation.
28. Do not touch the needle of the
extraction head.
29. Never carry the appliance by
the extraction head.
30. The capsule holder is
equipped with one perma-
nent magnet. Avoid placing
capsule holder near appli-
ances and objects that can
bedamagedbymagnetism,
e.g.creditcards,diskettes
andotherdatadevices,video
tapes,televisionandcomputer
monitorswithpicturetubes,
mechanicalclocks,hearing
aids and loud speakers.

capsule holder directly over
pacemakerordebrillator.
31. a) A short power-supply cord
is to be provided to reduce
risks resulting from becoming
entangled in or tripping over a
longer cord.
b) Longer extension cords may
be used if care is exercised in
their use.
c) If a long extension cord is
used,
1) The marked electrical rating
of the extension cord should
be at least as great as the
electrical rating of the appli-
ance.
2) If the appliance is of the
grounded type. the extension
cord should be a grounding-
type3-wirecord,and
3) The longer cord should
be arranged so that it will
not drape over the counter
top or table top where it can
be pulled on by children or
tripped over.
32. The capsule should be re-
moved from the machine after
extraction.

Rinse water tank at rst. Fill water tank with
fresh, drinking water. Place cap and insert
water tank into machine.
Start rinsing with cold water:
Push the lever up to set the bar display to
maximum level. Move lever to the left for cold
water rinsing.
Machine starts rinsing. Wait until countdown is
nished and machine stops.
Open locking handle and insert empty capsule
holder. Close locking handle. Place capsule
bin under coee outlet. Connect power plug to
mains power socket.
Machine starts rinsing. Wait until countdown is
nished and machine stops.
Empty capsule bin and rell water tank with
fresh, drinking water.
Remove protection foil from drip grid. Place
drip grid on drip tray. Then attach drip tray at
desired position on machine.
Switch machine on. While machine is heat-
ing up, power button starts blinking red. After
approx. 30 seconds, power button light turns
steady green and machine is ready.
Continue rinsing with hot water:
Push the lever up to set the bar display to
maximum level. Move lever to the right for hot
water rinsing.

Switch machine on. While machine is heat-
ing up, power button starts blinking red. After
approx. 30 seconds, power button light turns
steady green and machine is ready.
Use the lever to illuminate the bars in accord-
ance with the number of bars shown on cap-
sule, or set the bar display to your own taste.
Choose XL beverage for extra large cup.
Take cup from drip tray. Open the locking
handle.
Adjust drip tray position according to the
chosen beverage (see page 6-7). Place cup on
drip tray.
Move the lever to the right for hot beverages
and to the left for cold beverages. Beverage
preparation starts. Bar display lights vanish
progressively. Machine stops preparation auto-
matically. Extraction can be stopped manually
by moving the lever back to the middle position.
Pull out capsule holder and remove used cap-
sule. Put used capsule in capsule bin.
Open locking handle and pull out capsule
holder. Insert capsule in capsule holder and
insert it back in machine. Close locking handle.
After nishing preparation, bar display ashes
and power button blinks red for about 10 seconds.
During that time do not open the locking
handle!
Rinse both sides of the capsule holder with
water and dry. Insert capsule holder into ma-
chine. Enjoy your beverage!

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SAFE USE

After 5 minutes of non-usage the machine
automatically shuts down (Economy Mode).
To restart, press power button.
Never add hot water to the water tank! Never open the locking handle during
beverage preparation!
After nishing preparation the bar dis-
play ashes and the power button blinks
red for about 10 seconds. During that
time do not open locking handle!
Do not touch used capsule after
beverage preparation! Hot surface, risk
of burns!

Never use a wet sponge but only cleaning
towels to clean the head of the machine!
