1. This product must be installed in accordance with the latest WEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and current building
regulations. If in any doubt, consult a qualied electrician.
2. Please isolate mains prior to installation or maintenance.
3. Check the total load on the circuit (including when this luminaire is tted) does not exceed the rating of the circuit cable, fuse
or circuit breaker.
4. Please not the IP (Ingress Protection) rating of this luminaire when deciding the location for installation
5. Allow 50mm above and around the tting for air dissipation (do not cover the tting with insulation)
6. This product is a Class II double insulated
7. This product is IP20 rated
8. These instructions should be read carefully and retained after insulation by the end user for future reference and
maintenance.
Installation
• Provide power to the required point of installation
• Cut a suitable hole in the mounting surface as per the cut out details (g 1) ensuring not to
infringe with joists, gas/water pipes or electrical cables
• Connect the luminaire to the mains supply via a suitable junction box ensuring that correct
polarity is observed: Live (brown) and Neutral (blue) (See Fig. 2)
• Connect the battery to the inverter via the plug and socket provided, ensuring correct
polarity is observed
• Connect the downlight to the inverter via the plug and socket
provided
• Change the bezel, if required, by unscrewing from the downlight and
replacing with the required bezel.
• Place the inverter and battery into the ceiling via the cut-out
• Lift both spring clips on the sides of the tting and push into the
ceiling
• Switch on and check for correct operation, ensuring the green
indicator LED is illuminated
• We recommend, on commissioning the installation, a minimum charge period of 24 hours before carrying out an emergency
duration test.
Warning
This luminaire must be disconnected from the circuit if subjected to any high voltage or insulation resistance testing. Irreparable
damage will occur if this instruction is not followed. This product has a warranty of 5 years (excluding battery) from date of
purchase. Failure to install this product in accordance with the current edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations, improper use, or
removal of the batch codes will invalidate the warranty. If this product should fail within its warranty period it should be returned to
the place of purchase for a free of charge replacement. SGD does not accept responsibility for any installation costs associated
with the replacement product. Your statutory rights are not aected. SGD reserve the right to alter product specication without
prior notice.
Daily check - check that the status GREEN LED
indicator is illuminated.
Monthly functional test - simulate a mains supply
failure for approx. 30 secs by operation of key switch
or switching o a circuit breaker. Ensure normal
supply is restored after test and the indicator status
LED is illuminated.
Twice yearly conduct a one hour duration test
- simulate a mains supply failure for one hour
continuous test by operation of key switch or switching
o circuit breaker. Ensure normal supply is restored
after test and the indicator status LED is illuminated.
Annual full three hour duration test - conduct a three
hour continuous duration test. Simulate a mains
supply failure for three hour continuous test by
operation of key switch or switching o circuit breaker.
Ensure normal supply is restored after test and the
indicator status LED is illuminated.
If the luminaire fails any of the above tests, please contact a qualied electrician. See overleaf for test record sheet. All Emergency
lighting tests must be logged. The Emergency lighting logbook must be provided in order to be covered by any warranties.
EMERGENCY TESTING
After connecting the mains supply check the following:
1. The unit should be left on charge for a minimum of 24 hours before testing the emergency mode
2. There is one green indicator in the middle. After power is on, the LED indicator will be on. The LED indicator is o when the
xture is in emergency mode
3. To simulate normal mains supply failure, operate your key switch
4. The lamp will now light under emergency conditions
5. When the unit no longer meets its rated duration of operation, the battery pack must be replaced with a battery of the same
type, voltage and AMP-hour rating
6. All Emergency lighting tests must be logged. The Emergency lighting logbook must be provided in order to be covered by
any warranties.
Testing and commisioning for Emergency Luminaire
• Ensure the load is connected
• Connect the battery
• Switch on the Unswitched Supply - Check the charge LED illuminates
• Switch on the Maintained Supply - Check the LED illuminates as normal
• Switch o the Maintained Supply
• Switch o the Unswitched Supply - Check the charge LED extinguishes and the load LED illuminated at a reduced output
• Enter the commissioning date on the battery pack. Switch on the Unswitched supply.
