1. Introduction
TheSKFBearingHeaterTMBH1isintendedforheatingrollingbearingswith
aninnerdiameterupto80to100mm(3-4in)andamaximumcorresponding
weightof4-5kg(9-11lb).
Otherring-shapedmetalcomponentsformingaclosedcircuitsuchasgears,
pulleys,bushingsandshrinkringscanalsobeheated.
Thisapparatususesapatentedmethodofheatingbasedonhighfrequency
induction.Thisnewconceptcatersforoptimizedefciencyandisatrulyportable
unit.
Theunitissuppliedwithheatingclamp,temperatureprobe,powercable(without
plug)andacarryingcaseasstandard.
1.1 Principle of operation
Aninductionheatercanbecomparedwithatransformerusingtheprincipleofaprimary
coilwithalargenumberofwindingsandasecondarycoilwithafewwindingsona
mutualcore.
Theinput/outputvoltageratioisequaltotheratioofthewindings,whiletheenergy
remainsthesame.InthecaseoftheSKFBearingHeaterTMBH1,theprimarycoil
isconnectedtoahighfrequencypowersupply.Thebearingactsasashort-circuited
single-turnsecondarycoilthroughwhichalowACvoltageowsathighamperage,
thusgeneratingalotofheat.Theheateritselfaswellastheclampremainatambient
temperature.
Duetodifferentphysicalproportionstheinnerringofabearingwillheatupfasterthan
theouterring,thusreducingtheradialinternalclearance.Aslongastherecommended
temperatureof110°Cisnotexceeded,thisdoesnotthreatentodamagethebearing.
Bothgreasedandsealedbearingscanbeheatedwithoutriskofdamage.

3. Operating instructions
3.1 Instructions before use
A Makesurethelinevoltageiswithinthe
speciedrangeof100-240V,50-60Hz.
Properlyattachanapprovedcableplug
(notdeliveredwiththeunitduetolocal
variations).Connectthecabletotheheater
usingtheso-calledEuro-connector.
B Connecttheheatingclamptothecontrol
box.Neverconnectordisconnectthe
heatingclampduringoperation.

Ifthetemperaturemodeistobeused,
connectthetemperatureprobetothe
heater.Itisthenrecommendedtoattachthe
probetothehottestpartofthecomponent
whichingeneralisthepartclosesttothe
clamp.Incaseofheatingabearing,always
connecttheprobetotheinnerring.
Turnonthemainswitch.

componenttobeheated.Continueaccording

3.2.1 Working with time control - TIME MODE
A. IfnecessaryswitchfromTEMPERATUREMODEtoTIMEMODEbypressing .
B.Selectthedesiredheatingtimebyusingthekeys and .
C.Press toactivatetheheatingcycle.Theremainingheatingtimewillbedisplayed.
Notethatthemaximumtemperaturetheclampcanwithstandis200°C(392°F).
D.Anacousticsignalwillindicatewhentheheatingcyclehasbeencompleted.
Thiswillswitchoffafter10signalsorwhenpressing .
E. Theheateristhenreadyforusewiththesamepreselectedtime.
3.2.2 Working with temperature control -TEMPERATURE MODE
A. IfnecessaryswitchfromTIMEMODEtoTEMPERATUREMODEbypressing .
WhentheTEMPERATUREMODEisselected,110°C(230°F)isautomaticallydisplayed
asthedefaultvaluewhichistherecommendedheatingtemperatureforbearings.
B.Selectthedesiredheatingtemperature(maximum200°C/392°F)byusingthekeys
and .
C. Press tostartheating.Theactualtemperatureofthecomponentbeingheatedwill
beshown.
D.Anacousticsignalwillindicatethatthepreselectedtemperaturehasbeenreached.This
willswitchoffafter10signalsorwhenpressing .
E.Iftheworkpieceisleftinposition,theheaterwillautomaticallystartagainassoon
asthetemperaturehasdroppedto10°C(10°F)belowtheselectedvalue.This
thermostaticfunctionisstoppedbypressing .
F. Theheaterisagainreadyforusewiththesamepreselectedtemperature.

• Donotdisconnecttheclampduringoperation
• Neverusetwoheatersonthesamecomponent.
3.2.3 Thermometer mode
Whilenotinoperationtheunitwilldisplaytheactualtemperaturerecordedbytheprobe
when and arepressedsimultaneously.
Resetthisfunctionbypressinganyotherkey.
3.2.4 Change of temperature unit
Tochangefrom°Cto°Forviceversa,pressthebuttons and simultaneously.
3.3 Demagnetization
Thehighfrequencycurrentused,whichcreateslowuxdensityinthebearing,means
thatnomagnetizationwilltakeplace,thusavoidingthenecessityfordemagnetization.
4 Safety features
Thisbearingheaterisequippedwiththefollowingsafetyfeatures:
• Inputcurrentfusedat5A.
• Outputcurrentrestrictiontotheclampat1,2Aat380V.
• Internalthermaloverloadprotection(indicatedbyerrorcode03).
• IntheTEMPERATUREMODEtheheaterwillswitchoffifthetemperatureprobedoes
notregisteratemperatureincreaseof1degreeevery15seconds(indicatedbyerror
code05).
• Ashortcircuitontheclampwindingsorcablewillnotinictanyrisktotheuser.
5 Maintenance
Toensureoptimalperformanceandlifetimeoftheheaterprotecttheunitagainstphysical
misuse,highhumidityanddirectcontactwithwater.
Avoidimpactsagainsttheclamp.Theferritecoreespeciallyissensitivetothesetypesof
shocks.
Donotoverloadthespringmechanismontheclamp.
Makesurethetheferritepolesarecleanandthattheclampclosesperfectly.
