8. Select how the 594M Utility program should be installed then click Next. The choices are:
Stand-alone
Thismode allows you to run the 594M Utility without any connection to the 594M. It is used to
create and review configuration files for the 594M which are stored on the PC hard drive.
Serial Connection
This mode allows the 594M Utility to communicate with the 594M Controller through a
connection between a serial port on the PC and the Utility Serial Port on the 594M.
Note: This connection is required when doing a first time install of a 594M. It is used to
download the system software (or firmware) to the flash memory on the controller.
Note: The serial connection will optionally modify the system or registry files or you may
perform the changes manually. For details on these modification see Appendix A:.
APPC Connection
The 594M Utility will use the Client Access/400 for DOS to communicate to the 594M locally
throughthetwinaxialinterfaceorremotelythroughanAS/400networkusingtheAPPCprotocol.
Theremoteconnectionallowsconfigurationchangesorsoftwareupdatestocontrollersatbranch
offices to be administered from a central location.
9. If the Serial Connection option was chosen, then enter a COM Port number that the 594M
Utility program will use. Valid entries are 1-4. Default value is 1. Click Next.
10. If the APPC Connection optionwaschosen,thenanInterface dialog screen will appear. Select
whichinterface cardon the PC willbe used forcommunication andentervaluesfor the interface
parameters if the default values are incorrect
Twinaxial
Station Address - Station address of the PC. Default value is 5. Valid entries are 0-6.
Token-Ring or Ethernet
LAN Address - This is the LAN (or MAC) address of the LAN interface on the Adjacent Link
Station (ALS) to which the PC will communicate. The LAN address is 12 digits long and valid
entries are 0-9 and A-F. This is a required parameter and has no default value.
SAP - This is the Service Access Point of the ALS LAN interface. The default value is 04. Valid
entries are 04-FC (hexadecimal) in multiples of 04.
11. Follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation.
