1. SafetyPrecautions

1.1. GENERALGUIDELINES

1. Whenservicing, observetheoriginal leaddress. Ifashortcircuit

isfound, replace all parts whichhavebeenoverheatedor

damagedbytheshortcircuit.

2. Afterservicing, see toitthat all theprotectivedevices suchas

insulation barriers, insulation papersshieldsareproperly

installed.

3. Afterservicing, make thefollowing leakagecurrentchecks to

preventthecustomerfrom being exposedtoshock hazards.

1.1.1. LEAKAGE CURRENT COLD CHECK

1. Unplug theACcord and connect ajumperbetweenthetwo

prongson theplug.

2. Measuretheresistance value, withanohmmeter, betweenthe

jumperedACplug and eachexposedmetalliccabinet parton the

equipmentsuchas screwheads, connectors, control shafts, etc.

Whentheexposedmetallicparthas areturn pathtothechassis,

thereading shouldbebetween1M and 5.2 . / Whenthe

exposedmetal does nothaveareturn pathtothechassis, the

reading must be . Fig. 1

1.1.2. LEAKAGE CURRENT HOT CHECK (See Figure1.)

1. Plug theACcord directlyintotheACoutlet. Donotuse an

isolation transformerfor thischeck.

2. Connect a1.5k , 10 watts resistor, inparallel witha0.15 F

capacitors, betweeneachexposedmetallicparton theset and a

good earthground suchas awaterpipe, as showninFigure1.

3. Use anACvoltmeter, with1000 ohms/voltor moresensitivity, to

measurethepotential across theresistor.

4. Check eachexposedmetallicpart, and measurethevoltageat

eachpoint.

5. Reverse theACplug intheACoutlet and repeat eachoftheabove

measurements.

6. Thepotential at anypointshouldnotexceed0.75 volts RMS. A

leakagecurrenttester(Simpson Model 229 or equivalent) maybe

usedtomake thehotchecks, leakagecurrentmust notexceed1/

2milliamp. Incase ameasurementisoutsideofthelimits

specified, thereisapossibilityofashock hazard, and the

equipmentshouldberepairedand recheckedbeforeitisreturned

tothecustomer.

2. Handling the Lead-free Solder

2.1. Aboutleadfree solder(PbF)

Distinction of PbF P.C.B. :

P.C.B.s (manufactured) using leadfree solderwill have a PbF stamp on the P.C.B.

Caution:

-Pbfree solderhas ahighermelting pointthat standard solder;

Typicallythemelting pointis50 -70°F(30 -40°C) higher. / Please

use ahigh temperaturesoldering iron. Incase ofthesoldering

iron withtemperaturecontrol, please set itto700 ±20°F(370 ±

10°C).

-Pbfree solderwill tend tosplashwhenheatedtoo high (about

1100°F/600°C).

-Whensoldering or unsoldering, please completelyremoveall of

thesolderon thepinsor solderarea, and besuretoheat the

soldering points withthePbfree solderuntil itmelts enough.

3. Before Repairand Adjustment

DisconnectAC power, discharge PowerSupplyCapacitors C546, C547, C548, C549 through a

10 , 1 Wresistorto ground.

DONOTSHORT-CIRCUITDIRECTLY(with a screwdriverblade, forinstance), as this may

destroysolidstate devices.

Afterrepairs are completed, restore powergraduallyusing a variac, to avoidovercurrent.

Current consumption atAC 230~240V, 50HzinNOSIGNALmode shouldbe ~400 mA.

4. Protection Circuitry

The protection circuitrymayhave operatedifeitherof the following conditions are noticed:

-Nosound isheard whenthepoweristurnedon.

-Sound stopsduring aperformance.

The function of this circuitryis to prevent circuitrydamage if, forexample, the positive and

negative speakerconnection wires are

“shorted”, orifspeakersystems with animpedance less thanthe indicatedratedimpedance of

the amplifierare used.

Ifthis occurs, followthe procedure outlines below:

1. Turn off thepower.

2. Determinethecause oftheproblemand correct it.

3. Turn on thepoweronce againafteroneminute.

Note :

Whenthe protection circuitryfunctions, the unitwill not operate unless the poweris firstturned

off and thenon again.

5. Connection ofthe Speaker Cables

-Besuretoconnect speakercables beforeconnecting theAC

powersupplycord.

-Theloadimpedance ofanyspeakerusedwiththisunitmust be4

-Besuretoconnect thecablefrom therightspeakertotheright

terminal and thecablefrom theleft speakertotheleft terminal.

1. Stripoff theoutercovering, and twist thecenterconductor. Make

surethebareendsofthewires arenotunravelled. (Iftheyare,

twist themtightagain.)

2. Insertthewiretotherearpanel oftheunitand close thelever.

Notes :

-Topreventdamagetocircuitry, nevershort-circuitpositive(+) and

negative(-) speakerwires.

-Besuretoconnect onlypositive(red)wires topositive(+)

terminalsand negative(black) wires tonegative(-) terminals.

6. DisassemblyProcedure

“ATTENTION SERVICER”

Some chassis components mayhave sharpedges.

Be careful whendisassembling and servicing.

1. Thissection describes procedures for checking theoperation of

themajor printedcircuitboardsand replacing themain

components.

2. For reassemblyafteroperation checks or replacement, reverse

therespectiveprocedures.

Special reassemblyprocedures aredescribedonlywhenrequired.

3. Select itemsfrom thefollowing index whenchecks or

replacementarerequired.
