Notes:

1. Specificationsaresubject to changewithoutnotice. / Mass and

dimensionsareapproximate.

2. Total harmonicdistortion ismeasured bythedigital spectrum

analyzer.

Unauthorized copying and distribution isaviolation of law.

1. Before Repair and Adjustment

Disconnect AC power, discharge PowerSupplyCapacitors C506, C507, C508, C576, C577, C587,

C588, C615 through a 10 , 5 W resistortoground. DO NOTSHORT-CIRCUITDIRECTLY (witha

screwdriverblade, forinstance), as this maydestroysolidstatedevices.

Afterrepairs are completed, restore powergraduallyusing a variac, toavoidovercurrent.

Current consumption at AC 230 V, 50 Hz inNO SIGNALmode shouldbe ~300 mA.

2. Protection Circuitry

The protection circuitrymayhave operatedif eitherof the following conditions are noticed:

-Nosound isheard when the power isturned on.

-Stops during aperformance.

The function of this circuitryis toprevent circuitrydamage if, forexample, the positive and

negative speakerconnection wires are “shorted”, orif speakersystems withanimpedance less

thanthe indicatedratedimpedance ofthe amplifierare used.

If this occurs, followthe procedure outlines below:

1. Turn off the power.

2. Determine the cause of the problem and correct it.

3. Turn on the power once againafter one minute.

Note:

Whenthe protection circuitryfunctions, the unit will not operate unless the poweris first turned

off and thenon again.

5. Self-Diagnostic Display Function

This unit is equippedwitha self-diagnostic displayfunction, whichwill be useful during

servicing and maintenance.

-Refer to the next page for displaysymbols, symptoms, etc.

5.1. Preparations

1. ACr02-positioned blank cassette tape with an erase prevention

niche on either Side Aor B.

2. Anormal-positioned musictape with erase prevention niches on

both Sides Aand B. Both tapes are halfwayforwarded inadvance.

3. The remote controller that comes with thisunit.

5.2. Setting of the Self-DiagnosticMode

5.3. Restoring Normal Display

-From the F76 display, the normal displaydoes not appear till an

error isrecovered.

-For displaysother than F76, press “POWER”button to turn off the

power, and then turn on the power.

5.4. Clearing Self-DiagnosticMemory

<CD Section> (F15, F17, F22, F26, F27, F28, F29)

1. Enter aself-diagnosticmode.

2. Press " /-DEMO"button. Asymbol of self-diagnosticis

indicated on the displayifan error isfound. Ifseveral errors are

found, arespective indication isdisplayed when" /-DEMO"

button ispressing repeatedly. (e.g. H01 CD F15 F01) / Ifno

error isfound, only"TEST" indication isdisplayed and remains

unchange even if" /-DEMO"button ispressed.

5.5. Displaying Self-DiagnosticResults

<Cassette Deck Section> (H01, H02, H03, F01, F02)

1. Enter the self-diagnosticmode, following the instructions

described in[5.2. Entering Self-DiagnosticMode].

2. Insert anormal-positioned musictape with erase prevention

niches on both Sides Aand B. Press [TAPE ] button to

activate the TPS operation so that the tape automaticallystopsat

an interval between musicselections.

3. Press [ /CLEAR]and [TAPE ] buttons together on the

remote controller. (Recording does not start.)

4. Then, insert aCr02-positioned blank cassette tape with an erase

prevention niche of Side Aor Bset to the left side.

5. Press [ /FF/ ]button. The tape will be forwarded and

automaticallystop after twoseconds.

6. Remove the cassette tape, and set the other side.

7. Press [ /REW/ ]button. The tape will be rewound and

automaticallystops after twoseconds.

8. Press [ /-DEMO]button on the unit.

Ifan error isfound, aself-diagnostickeyappears on the display.

Ifseveral errors are found, the displayshowsthese keyswhen [

/-DEMO]button ispressed repeatedly. (Ex.:H01 -H02 -F01 -H01)

Ifno error isfound, onlythe message, “CD TEST” appears on the

display.

(*1) TPS operation (music search) detects the blank sections betweenmusic selections.

Therefore, do not use tapes withthe following conditions:

-Ablank section that lasts only4seconds or less.

-Noblank sections (recording through microphones, etc.).

-Musicselections that have extremelylow pitches or prolonged

silent sections (such as classical music).

-and/or Musicrecorded with fade in/out effect.

6. Handling Precautions For Traverse Deck

The laserdiode inthe traverse deck (optical pickup) maybreak downdue topotential difference

causedbystatic electricityof clothes orhumanbody. So, be careful of electrostatic breakdown

during repairof the traverse deck (optical pickup).

-Handling of traverse deck (optical pickup)

1. Donot subject the traverse deck (optical pickup) to static

electricityas itisextremelysensitive to electrical shock.

2. To prevent the breakdownof the laser diode, an antistatic

shorting pinisinserted into the flexibleboard (FFCboard).

3. Take care not to applyexcessive stress to the flexibleboard (FFC

board). When removing or connecting the short pin, finish the job

inas short time as possible.

4. Donot turn the variableresistor (laser power adjustment). Ithas

alreadybeen adjusted.

-Grounding for electrostaticbreakdownprevention

1. Human bodygrounding

Use the anti-staticwrist strap to discharge the staticelectricity

from your body.

2. Work tablegrounding.

Put aconductive material (sheet) or steel sheet on the area where

the traverse deck (optical pickup) isplace, and ground the sheet.

Caution:

The staticelectricityof your clothes will not be grounded through

the wrist strap. So, take care not to let your clothes touch the

traverse deck (optical pickup).

Caution whenreplacing the Traverse Deck

The traverse deck has a short point shortedwithsoldertoprotect the laserdiode against

electrostatics breakdown. Be sure toremove the solderfromthe short point before making

connections.
