Introduction

1. Introduction

The Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-900 allows you freedom to make and

receive calls while on the move or in the office. The headset has a sliding

boom that allows you to answer and end calls and to talk at a lower

volume or in a noisy environment.

You can connect the headset to a compatible phone that supports

Bluetooth wireless technology.

Read this user guide carefully before using the headset. Read also the

user guide for your phone, which provides important safety and

maintenance information. Keep the headset out of reach of small

children.

■Bluetooth wireless technology

Bluetooth wireless technology makes it possible to connect compatible

communication devices without using cables. A Bluetooth connection

does not require that the phone and the headset be in line of sight, but

both devices should be within 10 meters (30 feet) of each other.

Connections may be subject to interference from obstructions, such as

walls or other electronic devices.

The wireless headset is compliant with Bluetooth Specification 2.0

supporting the following profiles: Headset Profile 1.1 and Handsfree

Profile 1.5. Check with the manufacturers of other devices to determine

their compatibility with this device.

There may be restrictions on using Bluetooth technology in some

locations. Check with your local authorities or service provider.

■Keys and parts

The headset contains the following parts:

• Indicator light (1)

• Volume key (2)

• Power key (3)

• Sliding boom (4)

• Answer/end key (5)

• Charger connector (6)

• Earphone (7)

• Microphone (8)

Before using the headset, you must charge the battery and pair the

headset with a compatible phone.

Note: Parts of the headset are magnetic. Metallic materials

may be attracted to the headset. Do not place credit cards or

other magnetic storage media near the headset, because

information stored on them may be erased.

■Chargers

Check the model number of any charger before using it with this device.

The headset is intended for use with the AC-3, AC-4, and DC-4 chargers.

Warning: Use only chargers approved by Nokia for use with

this particular enhancement. The use of any other types may

invalidate any approval or warranty, and may be dangerous.

For availability of approved enhancements, please check with your

dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any enhancement, grasp

and pull the plug, not the cord.

Get started

■Charge the battery

This device has an internal, nonremovable, rechargeable battery. Do not

attempt to remove the battery from the device as you may damage the

device.

1. Connect the charger to a wall outlet.

2. Connect the charger cable to the

headset as shown in the figure.

The red indicator light is displayed

during charging. If charging does not

start, disconnect the charger, plug it in

again, and retry. Charging the battery fully may take up to 2 hours.

3. When the battery is fully charged, the green indicator light is

displayed. Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet and the

headset.

The fully charged battery has power for up to 8 hours of talk-time or up

to 180 hours of standby time. However, the talk and standby times may

vary when used with different mobile phones or other compatible

Bluetooth devices, usage settings, usage styles, and environments.

When the battery is running out of power, the headset beeps, and the

red indicator light starts to flash.

■Switch the headset on or off

To switch on, press and hold the power key. The headset beeps, and the

green indicator light starts to flash. The indicator light turns blue when

the headset is connected to your phone and ready for use.

To switch off, press and hold the power key. The headset beeps, and the

red indicator light is displayed briefly.

■Pair the headset with a compatible phone

1. Switch on your phone and the headset.

2. Activate the Bluetooth feature on the phone, and set the phone to

search for Bluetooth devices. See the user guide of your phone for

instructions.

Get started

3. Select the headset (Nokia BH-900) from the list of found devices.

4. Enter the passcode 0000 to pair and connect the headset to your

phone. In some phones you may need to make the connection

separately after pairing. See the user guide of your phone for details.

You only need to pair the headset with your phone once.

If the pairing is successful, the headset beeps and appears in the phone

menu where you can view the currently paired Bluetooth devices.

Disconnect the headset from the phone

To disconnect the headset from your phone (for example, to connect the

phone to another Bluetooth device), do one of the following:

• Switch off the headset.

• Disconnect the headset in the Bluetooth menu of your phone.

• Move the headset more than 10 meters (30 feet) away from the

phone.

You do not need to delete the pairing with the headset to disconnect it.

Reconnect the paired headset to your phone

To connect the headset to your phone, switch on the headset, make the

connection in the Bluetooth menu of your phone, or press and hold the

answer/end key.

You can set your phone to connect with the headset automatically

when the headset is switched on. To do this in Nokia phones, change

your paired device settings in the Bluetooth menu.

■Troubleshooting

If you cannot connect the headset to your phone, do as follows:

• Ensure that the headset is charged, switched on, and paired with

your phone.

• Ensure that the Bluetooth feature is activated on your phone.

Get started

• Check that the headset is within 10 meters (30 feet) of your phone

and that there are no obstructions between the headset and the

phone, such as walls or other electronic devices.

• To reset the headset if it stops functioning, although it is charged,

plug the headset into a charger, and briefly press the power key and

the middle of the volume key at the same time. This reset does not

clear your settings (for example, pairing settings).

Basic use

3. Basic use

■Put the headset on the ear

Place the headset over your ear in a

comfortable position, and point it toward

your mouth as shown in the figure.

■Sliding boom

The sliding boom brings the microphone

closer to your mouth, which improves the audio quality even when you

talk at a lower volume or in a noisy environment. You can use the boom

to answer, end, or reject a call.

To use the boom, gently pull it down toward your mouth (1), or push it

up to its initial position (2).

■Call handling

To make a call, use your phone in the normal way when the headset is

connected to your phone.

If your phone supports redialing, press the answer/end key twice briefly

when no call is in progress.

If your phone supports voice dialing, press and hold the answer/end key

when no call is in progress, and proceed as described in the user guide of

your phone.

To answer a call, pull the boom down toward your mouth, press the

answer/end key, or use the phone keys. If the automatic answer function

Basic use

is set on, the phone automatically answers the incoming call after one

ring.

To reject an incoming call, pull the boom down and push it up

immediately, or briefly press the answer/end key twice.

To end a call, push the boom up to its initial position, press the answer/

end key, or use the phone keys.

■Adjust the earphone volume

Press the volume key up to increase or down to decrease the volume. To

adjust the volume quickly, press and hold the key in the desired

direction.

■Mute or unmute the microphone

To mute or unmute the microphone during a phone call, briefly press the

middle of the volume key. A long beep sounds. When the microphone is

muted, the blue indicator light flashes continuously. The mute function

cannot be used during a PTT call.

■Push to talk (PTT) calls

You can use the headset to make and receive push to talk (PTT) calls. To

use this network service, your phone must support it and the function

must be set to on in the phone. For more information on the PTT

function, contact your network operator or service provider and see the

user guide of your compatible phone.

To make a PTT call to the default PTT channel defined in your phone,

press and hold the middle of the volume key (while no call is in progress)

as long as you speak.

When you receive a PTT call while no call is in progress, the headset

beeps, and you start to hear speech from the channel. To answer and

speak to the listened channel within the time defined by the network

operator or service provider, press and hold the middle of the volume key

as long as you speak. To answer and speak to the default channel after

the time defined by the network operator or service provider, press and

hold the middle of the volume key as long as you speak.
