1. Welcome

Congratulations on purchasing this Netbook Series Webbook mobile device po ered by the Microsoft®

Windo s CE® 5.0 Operating System. The size of the Netbook allo s you to carry it around ith you and

it’s capabilities allo you keep any important information close at hand. If you are familiar ith Microsoft

Windo s products, you ill notice that your Netbook has a lot of the same functionality you are used to,

making it easy for you to be productive quickly.

2. System Overvie

The Netbook , is highly portable & compact in its design, ith good performance, adaptability and

robustness. The NetBook optimised Windo s CE based operating system gives a user friendly interface

and ensures optimum performance ith the minimum of system resources.

2. Operating Syste Description

Microsoft Windo s CE is a scaled-do n version of the Windo s Operating System hich has been

designed specifically for lo po ered portable devices like the NetBook. With a user interface that

anyone ho has used Windo s before ill recognize straight a ay, Windo s CE allo s you to be up and

running ith the NetBook in a short period of time.

The NetBook supports connecting to a PC via ActiveSync hen running on Windo s 2000/XP.This allo s

files to be transferred, email to be synchronised and ne applications to be installed. Because of this

Windo s CE enhances the NetBook functionality and usability.

Note: ActiveSync is not supplied in the box, but can be do nloaded direct from Microsoft at:

5. Connecting to your desktop PC

Your NetBook Webbook orks perfectly as a standalone computer. But to get the most out it, you ill

ant to connect to your desktop or notebook PC. This chapter describes ho to establish a connection

bet een your NetBook and a desktop PC running ActiveSync or Windo s Mobile Device Center.

Connecting for the first ti e

You can connect your NetBook to a desktop PC using a USB cable ( hich is included). Before you

connect, you must install the required Microsoft soft are:

Windo s 2000 / XP – ActiveSync 4.5

Windo s Vista - Windo s Mobile Device Center

Once this soft are is installed on the desktop PC, you can connect your NetBook and establish a

partnership.

Connecting by USB port

1. Connect the flat USB "A" connector to an available USB port on your desktop PC.

2. Connect the flat USB "A" connector to the rear port on your NetBook.

Your NetBook should establish a connection to the desktop computer

Setting up Microsoft ActiveSync and establishing a partnership on Windows 2000 / XP

Microsoft ActiveSync enables you to synchronize the information on your desktop PC ith the information

on your NetBook. Synchronization compares the data on your device ith your desktop PC and updates

both computers ith the most recent information including Word, Excel documents.

With Microsoft ActiveSync, you can also:

Back up and restore your NetBook data.

Add and remove programs on your NetBook.

Move and copy files, instead of synchronizing them.

Before connecting to your NetBook for the first time using ActiveSync you ill need to configure it to

allo connections via USB connections.

Click the “File” menu option and select “Connection Settings…”, this ill open the Connection Settings

indo . Click in the Allo USB connections check box and then click the “OK” button as sho n belo :

Once Connection Settings have been changed ActiveSync ill automatically connect to the NetBook and

start the Synchronization Setup Wizard.

Click Next

Select the Information Types you ish to synchronize, initially e suggest just selecting Files. Then click

Next, Finish and Next to finish the configuration process.

The NetBook ill no be connected to your PC and ill synchronize any of the file types you have

selected.

The NetBook ill sho up as a Mobile Device in “My Computer” or “Windo s Explorer” and files can be

copied to it directly from here:

6. Battery Management

The NetBook uses an internal Li-Ion Battery, to ensure the best performance from this battery please

use the follo ing procedure to condition the battery. Before turning on the NetBook for the first time

plug the charger in and charge the battery until fully charged (the charging light has gone out). During

use e suggest charging the battery henever the battery po er is lo and allo the battery to fully

charge before disconnecting the charger.

How to Charge the Battery

1. Plug in the Po er adapter to Po er adaptor port of NetBook, the Battery charge LED ill light up.

Charging ill be completed once the LED has turned off.

2. To see the charging status, turn on the NetBook by pressing and holding the Po er on/off button.

Once the system has booted to the Windo s CE desktop, the Charging status ill be displayed on the

right hand side of the Menu bar as indicated belo .

3. During Battery Charging the NetBook can be used as normal, (Please be note that the charging time

ill be longer hen the system is in use).

4. Charging the Battery normally requires around 3 hours from lo battery charge to fully charged.

During Charging the machine ill become arm, but this is normal.

Checking the Battery Level

Double clicking the battery icon ill sho the percentage of battery po er remaining. This icon can

also be double clicked to sho the Po er Properties indo . This indo can also be sho n by clicking

the “Start” button, selecting and then

When the Control Panel is sho n, click the Po er Options icon to sho Po er Properties.

When the battery is almost empty, the “Main Batteries very lo ” popup ill appear as sho n belo , the

NetBook ill be automatically po er off after this popup has been displayed for a short time.

7. Basic Operation

1. Powering On and Off

1. Po er On: Press and hold the po er button until the Windo s CE Operating System starts to boot.

2. Po er Off: There are t o ays to turn off the NetBook:

① Press the po er button until the OS sho s that it is shutting do n.

② Po er off through “Start” Menu selection.

2. Using Applications

System applications can be started either by clicking on the icon of the relative application on the

Desktop, or by clicking the Start button and selecting the required program from the Programs Menu.
