Chapter 1 –Getting Started
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Jaze Hotspot Gateway is a complete Internet access and billing solution for public hotspots. It has been
specifically designed for use in hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, libraries, airport lounges, etc. Jaze
Hotspot Gateway enables businesses to provide secure and convenient Internet access to its customers by
providing each one of them with a unique username and password. Jaze Hotspot Gateway provides the
following benefits:
Auto Configuration: Guest devices can get connected to the network with any network settings
stored on them even if they are incompatible with the network setup.
Generate instant vouchers: Easily create users with the press of a single button and also send the
credentials via SMS.
Multiple plan types: Create prepaid, postpaid or free access vouchers with fixed expiry date and
usage limits based on time or data transferred.
Bandwidth management: Define the bandwidth limit for upload and download for each plan type.
Customisation: Fully customizable login pages, vouchers and bills with your own logos and brand
name.
The solution comprises of two components:
1. Jaze Hotspot Gateway
2. Jaze Voucher Printer

Jaze Hotspot Gateway comprises of the following ports:
Printer serial interface: This interface connects to the Jaze Voucher Printer via the serial cable provided. This
interface can also be connected to a COM port on a PC to access the command line interface of the device.
WAN interface: This interface connects to your Internet connection. Plug in the network cable from the
modem or router provided by your ISP into this port.
LAN interface: This interface connects to your wired or wireless network. Plug in the uplink from your existing
network into this port.
USB: This is used for backing up and restoring configuration files and firmware.
Power: Connect the pin from the power adapter provided into this jack.

The Hotspot Gateway can function both with and without the voucher printer.
The WAN interface has been configured to get an IP address automatically from your ISP’s modem or router by
default. In case you have a leased line or if you need to set up a static IP you can do so by using the Web GUI
later.
The LAN interface is configured to assign IP address to clients through DHCP. The default IP address of the LAN
interface is 172.16.1.1. To access the Web GUI of the device, connect directly to the LAN interface with a
network cable to a laptop or PC. The laptop or PC will be assigned an IP address in the range through DHCP.
Once connected you can access the Web GUI of the device by typing in the following into a browser window.
http://172.16.1.1/
This will prompt you with a screen asking you for a username and password to login as show below:

Log in with the following default username and password:
Username: admin
Password: jaze
Once you have logged in using the default username and password will be able to access the Web GUI of the
device as shown on the next page.

Jaze Voucher Printer works with the Jaze Hotspot Gateway and allows you to print vouchers, send SMS, print
bills and view statistics. It comprises of a keypad with keys as follows:
1. Bill plan mapped keys: These keys can be mapped to a specific bill plans and are used to generate

vouchers based on the bill plan to which they are mapped.
2. Search key: This key is used for searching for vouchers which are currently being used.
3. List key: This key lists all the vouchers that are currently being used.
4. Navigation keys: These keys are used for seleting options on the display by scrolling up or down
through lists.
5. Function keys: These keys perform fuctions based on soft keys displayed on the screen.
6. Statistics keys: These keys are used to display statistics about the number of vouchers created and the
number of vouchers currently connected.
7. Test key: This key is used for performing tests on the SIM card by sending a test SMS or by making a
test call.
8. Help key: This key provides a Help screen which displays the function provided by each key.
