cautions for the CT334exa. Before using the CT334exa, read this guide carefully. This guide should be

proper use of the CT334exa and the prevention of possible accidents.
Warning: Improper handling of the product may result in serious injury.

1. Precautions for Set up and Use
The CT334exa must be placed horizontally on a
solid stand.
The CT334exa must not be placed near a TV set,
radio, or any other equipment that produces
electromagnetic waves. In addition, power for the
CT334exa must not come from the same wall
outlet used for such equipment.

The CT334exa must not be dropped or bumped
against a solid object.
The CT334exa must not be exposed to direct
sunlight for long periods of time.
Power must come from a wall outlet with a
ground securely established.
The CT334exa must not be set up in a dusty
location.
Environmental Requirements:
Temperature: 10-40oC
Humidity: 55-80%
An environment with humidity lower than 55% is
likely to produce static electricity.
The CT334exa must not be exposed to water.
The CT334exa must not be operated in an
extremely hot or cold environment.

Taking out the main unit
Firmly hold the Styrofoam (cushioning material) on both sides of the main unit with both hands, and
then slowly lift out the main unit.
Mounting the card receiver
(1) Take the card receiver out of the margin receiver.
(2) Using the hook at the top of the card receiver, attach the box to the ejection part (where the
ejection roller is located) of the main unit.
Do not throw away the outer and inner boxes and cushioning material. They are needed when
shipping the unit for repairs.

4-1 The CT334exa is designed to use A4-sized, short-grained paper (297 mm x 210 mm).
4-2 The impositions prescribed for your CT334exa are shown below (magnified figures, see Page
18~20).
4-3 You can fine-adjust the top and bottom margins through the main unit (see Page 11).
4-4 Printing paper can be curled by heat from the printer. Too much curling may cause paper to be
improperly fed and/or inaccurately cut. While this product can cut paper with a little curling, curling
of finished business cards is difficult to correct. It is recommended that the paper be uncurled as
much as possible before it is cut.
4-5 If you use paper designed specifically for inkjet printing, more than one sheet may be fed at a
time. If this is the case, supply them one by one to the paper supply unit.
4-6 The CT334exa cannot handle PPC paper, peel-off stickers, laminated paper, synthetic paper,
heat-sensitive paper, non-carbon paper, or film.
4-7 If you want to preprint a logo or something like that, UV printing is recommended. If you use
normal offset printing, a drier (powders) is applied to the paper. This causes the sensor to become
clogged, which results in a mechanical malfunction.

4-8 Do not cut newly printed output.
(1) Printed output must be set aside for 20-30 minutes.
(2) Output devices such as a color printer and color copier apply silicone oil on printed output.
(3) Paper coated with silicone oil is slick. So, such paper cannot be properly fed by the feed roller,
and stays inside the main unit or is cut unevenly.
(4) Over time, silicone oil is absorbed by the paper. This makes the paper less slick. Instead of
cutting printed output at once, allow the coated silicone oil to dry before cutting the paper.
**** Curling and wavy paper ****
Curling or wavy paper is not cut as intended. Flatten the paper as much as possible before it is
cut.
If paper is excessively curling or wavy, the CT334exa cannot feed or cut the paper properly.
This causes skewed paper feeds, inaccurate cutting, and/or paper jams due to a feed error.
The CT334exa can cut paper that satisfies the following requirements.
The difference in height between both the top
and bottom of paper and the horizontal surface is
not more than 10 mm.
The difference in height between both the left
and right edges of the paper and the
horizontal surface is not more than 5 mm.
The difference in height between the crests and
troughs is not more than 5 mm.
Paper is not curling downward.

5-1 Setting up the CT334exa
The CT334exa should be placed on a solid, stable stand that adequately supports the weight of the
unit. In addition, the unit must be horizontal.
Caution
When you lift the CT334exa, place your hands under
the unit to securely hold it.
The CT334exa weighs about 13 kg.
5-2 Mounting the paper supply unit
(1) Open the top cover of the main unit. Then, remove the two button-head screws located on the
left and right sides inside the main unit (see Figure 1).
(2) Engage the U-shaped incision at the forward part of the paper supply unit with the prong
(securing pin) inside the main unit (see Figure 2).
(3) Position the screw holes located at the tip of both arms of the paper supply unit to the holes for
the button-head screws inside the main unit. Then, use the button-head screws removed in Step
(1) to secure the paper supply unit to the main unit (see Figure 3).
When tightening the screws for the paper supply unit, exercise caution not to disengage the paper
supply unit from the securing pin on the main unit in Step (2).
(4) If the paper supply unit wobbles, it is improperly mounted.
Note that improper mounting of the paper supply unit causes
paper jams and inaccurate cutting.
(5) Close the top cover of the main unit slowly.

5-3 Connecting the Line Cord
Connect the plugs of the line cord with the main unit and a wall outlet (100-240 VAC). A 3-pin
outlet (with a grounding terminal) should be used. If you use a 2-pin outlet (with a grounding
terminal), then attach the adapter (with a grounding cord) to the plug. Even in this case, a ground
must be established. See Figure 4. Establishment of a ground is very important for safe and proper
use of the CT334exa.
Warning
Your hands should be dry when you insert or pull out the plug. Otherwise, you may
receive an electrical shock.
5-4 Static electricity
(1) Every sheet of paper produces static electricity when it is being fed inside the CT334exa. If a
ground is not properly established, static electricity has nowhere to go and steadily accumulates
inside the unit. This may cause a malfunction of the electric system of the CT334exa.
(2) Even if a ground is established, static electricity may accumulate. In a very dry environment
with a low humidity of 10% or 20%, for example, excessive static electricity is produced without
being discharged to earth. In an environment with humidity of 55% or more, almost no static
electricity is produced, and static electricity, if any, is likely to be discharged into the air.
(3) Static electricity must be controlled for proper operation of the CT334exa. It is important to take
measures against static electricity because it causes paper jams among other errors.
(4) In an excessively dry environment, a humidifier must be used to control humidity.

6-1 Turning on the power.
Turn on the power. Then, ensure that the operation panel is lit.
6-2 Setting the paper
(1) Open the paper supply unit cover.
(2) Set paper into the paper supply unit.
(3) Close the paper supply unit covers slowly.
When you supply paper, exercise caution for the following points to avoid paper jams.
* Adequately loosen the stack of paper to prevent sheets from sticking together.
* Even the edges of the sheets before placing them into the paper supply unit.
* Flatten excessively curled or wavy paper.
* Paper must satisfy the following requirements:
* The paper supply unit accepts approximately 40 sheets of paper at one time.
6-3 Ensuring the set margins
Press the ADJUST button on the operation panel to ensure that the top margins are correctly set.
The top margins are factory set to 11 mm for 51X85 cut, 7.5mm for 54X85 cut and 5 mm for 55X85
cut. To change these values, see How to Change the Set Values on Page 10.
6-4 Trial cutting
Press the START button to feed one or two sheets of paper. Then, check to see if they are
correctly cut into the desired business card size. If no problems are found, you can go to the actual
cutting.
