Service Release 6.2 installation

This section details known issues with the installation of Service Release 6.2 or use of the HP NAS

Updater utility. Applying this Service Release will update your ProLiant Storage Server using Windows

Storage Server 2003 R2 to version 6.2. Version information can be obtained:

•In the HP Storage Server Management console by selecting System Settings.

•On the HP NAS Updater utility screen.

Service Release 6.2 installation

Issue: Version control agent CP005570 cannot be installed on several NAS server models

Description Service Release 6.2 fails to install CP005570 on several models of HP ProLiant

Storage Server.

WorkaroundThis issue has been found on NAS servers with SmartStart 7.1 and SmartStart 7.2.

Go to the Add or Remove Programs applet and uninstall the older Version Control

Agent, restart the Service Release 6.2 setup, and then select Smart Component

CP005570 for installation.

Issue: Minimum disk space requirement for Service Release 6.2 installation

Description The HP ProLiant Storage Server should have at least 1 GB of available space on

the system drive when installing the Service Release. The specificamountofdisk

space required depends on the components that are selected for installation.

Workaround There is no workaround, other than ensuring that the system drive where the Service

Release setup is installed has more than 1 GB of available disk space. To free

up disk space, unnecessary files can be deleted from the C:\temp folder. This

situation can also be avoided by ensuring that only the necessary components are

selected for installation when the Service Release setup is run.

Issue: Running the Service Release 6.2 setup using a network share results in an Open File—Security

Warning message

Description When redirecting the NAS Updater utility to a network drive or share with Service

Release 6.2, the Windows Open File—Security Warning is displayed.

Workaround Select Run to allow the installation process to continue. This message may display

more than once.

Issue: PSP Smart Components remain checked even though the components were installed

Description Some ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) Smart Components remain checked for selection

in the Feature Selection screen when the Service Release 6.2 NAS Updater

installation is re-run after a previous installation. This issue is caused by the

necessary hardware required for the PSP components not being present on the

server.

Workaround There is no workaround. Having the PSP Smart Components checked does not

have any affect on their installation in this situation. This can be verified from the

PSP Smart Component log file located at C:\CPQSYSTEM\log\cpqsetup.log.

Issue: Intel NIC driver installation fails when installed over a network share

Description The installation of Intel network interface card driver fails when attempted over

anetworkshare.

Workaround Perform the installation directly from the Service Release DVD or by copying the

DVD contents to a local drive on the storage server.

Storage Server with Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 release notes 5

Service Release 6.2 installation

Issue: Install Shield Error 1607/1628 during Service Release installation

Description Installation error 1607: Unable to install Install Shield

Scripting Runtime and/or 1628: failed to complete

installation may be reported during installation of the Service Release. This

error can occur for various reasons, the most prevalent being a driver did not

exit properly when the Service Release is run the first time. This issue is currently

under investigation.

Workaround Run the Service Release again after ensuring that no instances of the processes

named msiexec.exe,setup.exe,oridriver.exe are running.

Issue: The NAS Updater utility shows the edition information as “0” for the Windows Storage Server

2003R2Expressedition

Description On an HP storage server running Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 Express

edition, the NAS Updater displays the Express edition information as “0.” This

information is shown as Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 (SP1); 0

instead of being displayed as Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 (SP1);

Express Edition.

Workaround No workaround is required.

Issue: The NAS Updater utility installed with Service Release 5.6 cannot be used for installing Service

Release 6.2 components

Description The NAS Updater utility installed with Service Release 5.6 cannot be used to

launch the Service Release 6.2. Attempting to install Service Release 6.2 with the

older utility results in the error message Version of NAS Updater on this

system does not support SR6.2 installation. Please install

latest version of NAS Updater.

Workaround Install the NAS Updater utility bundled with Service Release 6.2 by using the

setup.exe file located at the root level of the DVD.

Issue: Text does not get resized properly with the NAS Updater utility

Description When the graphics settings are changed on a NAS server while running the

update application, the update application text does not get resized.

Workaround Close and restart the update application.

Issue: User intervention required during installation of SMS v2.01on HP ProLiant DL100 G2 servers with

the IMB v3.0 driver

Description During installation of the Server Management System v2.01 on DL100 G2 servers,

the IMB v3.0 driver sometimes displays a security warning stating the driver does

not have digital signature.

Workaround AcceptingthewarningmessagebyclickingContinue proceeds with the installation

without any issues.

Service Release 6.2 installation

Issue: Service Release installation log information

Description The Service Release creates an installation log that may be difficult to locate and

interpret. Successive installation entries are appended at the end of the log file. In

addition to the Service Release installation log, there are supplemental installation

logs for reference. The locations of the log files are listed below.

•Service Release log file: c:\hpnas\SR\ServiceRelease.log

•ProLiant Smart Components (CPxxxxxx): c:\CPQSYSTEM\

log\cpqsetup.log

Note: Some ProLiant 100 series storage servers may not have this log file.

•Microsoft updates and hotfixes: c:\Windows\KBxxxxxx.log

Workaround The following information is provided to help interpret entries in the Service

Release installation log.

General system information logged prior to installation

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2

This section describes issues related to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2.

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2

Issue: Quotas used

Description If files for user accounts are deleted using the local login account, this has the

effect of moving user files to the recycle bin instead of removing them from the

drive. Due to the nature of volume-based quotas (instead of directory-based) this

has the effect of not releasing quota space.

WorkaroundDelete files from the Recycler and/or remove the recycle bin from the data drives.

Issue: Bugcheck 0x50 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA) in next boot after disabling Multipath

Support

Description Using the Microsoft Device Manager to disable the HP MPIO driver and rebooting

the system causes the system to continuously reboot. After successfully installing

the MPIO and DSM for MSA/EVA/XP, right-click and disable Multipath Support

from Device Manager and reboot the system. During the next boot, the system

bugchecks with bugcheck code 0x50 when coming up. The issue occurs because

the DSM uses MPIO export DsmGetVersion. This call is made even before the DSM

registers with MPIO. Since MPIO is disabled, DsmGetVersion is not available,

and the system bugchecks. The uninstall driver selection under Device Manager

works fine.

Workaround Bring up the Safe Mode menu using F8 during the reboot sequence. Select Last

Known Good Configuration to recover the system, or boot into the recovery console

and disable the DSM service.

Issue: AppleTalk share access problem while using Apple encrypted protocol

Description Users may experience problems in accessing AppleTalk shares using Apple

encrypted protocol.

Workaround Switch to Apple Clear Text protocol.

R2 upgrade

This section describes issues related to the upgrade for Windows Storage Server 2003 R2.

R2 upgrade

Issue: R2 upgrade process requests Windows Server 2003 CD

DescriptionWhen upgrading to Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, you are prompted to

insert the Windows Server 2003 CD because files cannot be located. There

are usually two files that cannot be located during the initial upgrade and one

Server 2003 R2. Go to http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/

displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=T3669-10201 to obtain the software.

Issue: An unhandled exception message appears during an R2 upgrade over the network

Description When upgrading to Windows Storage Server 2003 from a network share, an

exception message appears that stops the upgrade from continuing.

Workaround Run the upgrade from the server and not over the network.

Issue: Localization script has no affect on Region and Language options

Description After upgrading to Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, the localization script

c:\hpnas\conv.vbs does not change the language settings of the system

through the Region and Language options.

Workaround Use the Storage Server R2 Localization DVD. The DVD can be obtained from http://

h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductsList.do?category=NAS.

The R2-based platforms were developed to convert an upgraded system to French,

Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and
