1.1 Intended application
Guth butterfly valves are designed, developed and constructed as shut-off valves for pipe line installations within the
hygenic industry namely dairies, beverage and liquid food industries.
Maintenance of the Guth butterfly vavle should only be carried out by trained and competent personnel.
1.2 Application of sealing materials

2 Security instructions
2.1 Instructions / Explanations
All instructions and specifications in this manual apply to the Guth butterfly valve.
Warnings Danger signs Instructions

Make sure that the compressed air lines are correctly installed and
connected to the valve.
Fittings, air line length and quality should comply with the necessary
factory regulations.
Take necessary precautions against being burnt when working on valves
in high temperature lines.
Use the correct vavle seals for the temperature and product to
be handled

3 Transport and Packaging
Before shipment, the butterfly valve is carefully checked and packed, nevertheless damage during the transport
can not be excluded.
Unpacking:
- Remove protective covers from pipe connections. (if present).
- Remove possible remainders of packing material.
Entry inspection
- Please check, using the delivery note, if shipment is complete!
In case of damages
- Please check, if shipment shows damages (visual inspection)!
In case of complaints
In case of damage of the shipment during transport:
- Please contact immediately the last forwarder!
- Keep packaging (for a possible inspection by the forwarder or for a return of the valve)
Packaging for return
If possible, please use original packaging and original packaging material.
If both are not available any more:
- Demand a packaging company with packaging.
- In case of questions concerning packaging and transport assurance,
please contact GUTH South Africa.
Seaworthy packaging
For an oversea transport the butterfly valve is shrimped in plastic foil.
Open air storage
An open air storage is not allowed.
When using a seaworthy packaging, the drying agent is suitable for a storage < 3 month.
Storage in closed facilities
Storage conditions
- temperature 20 °C to 30 °C
- air moisture < 60 %

3.1 Assembly / Installation
- If the valve is installed in a horizontal postition ensure that the actuator vent hole is
facing download.
- Make Sure, when tightening screws that the actuator does not tilt.

4. Maintenance
Isolate and drain the pipeline containing the valve to be repaired.
Disconnect the compressed air line to the valves.
Make sure that the pipeline and the compressed air lines are not under pressure.
Allow the pipeline and valves to cool down if a high tempreture system
Please follow the above to prevent injury.
4.1 Dimantling Valve
First remove manual or pneumatic actuator from the valve.

4. Maintenance
4.2 Replacement of Disk Seal
Prior to assembly clean and grease the shaft and the contact surfaces together with the valve seal as per the lubrication
schedule in the annex.
A. Insert the long shaft of the disk into the bore of the seal.
B. Squash the seal and push over the short shaft of the flap in the direction of arrow A.
Proceed carefully. Avoid damage to the seal.
C. Place the disk into the seal as shown in the diagram.
4.3 Valve Assembly
The butterfly valve assembly is carried out in the reverse sequence.
- Align the rotary actuator with the buttefly valve (visual inspection). The actuator
shaft must be aligned with the valve disk.
- Tighten the screws equally.
- Connect the compressed air to the angled air connection of the rotary actuator
or control head.
- Connect the control line in accordance with the customer’s specifications (circuit diagram).
