Introducing Sateon Advance
Sateon Advance offers a
flexible new approach to
access control, with a new
range of hardware and
software products.
Advance 2 Door Blade
You can snap the Door Blade into place
on either type of Advance controller to
manage doors. Each door Blade enables
the connection of two doors and two
readers – plus a range of door elements
such as locks and exit buttons.
See page 10 for connection details.
Advance Single-Blade Controller
The compact Single-Blade controller is
ideal when you only have a small space
available. The device supports either one
Door Blade or one I/O Blade, and it can be
powered via PoE or a separate external
power supply.
For details, see page 6.
Sateon Server
The hardware is based on a modular architecture: two
variants of intelligent controller can be combined with snap-in
Blades for either door control or peripheral support.

Page 3
Advance Multi-Blade Controller
The Multi-Blade controller is particularly
suited to larger systems and is designed
to make the most of your space. Each
controller can support up to four Blades,
enabling connection of up to 8 readers/
doors or a combination of doors and I/O.
For details, see page 8.
Advance I/O Blade
The I/O Blade can be used when you
need to connect additional peripherals.
It enables the connection of up to 8
volt-free relay outputs and 8 supervised
inputs. The Blade can be used in either
Single-Blade or Multi-Blade controllers.
See page 12 for connection details.
Sateon Quick Start Application
Installing and configuring a Sateon
system is straightforward with the Quick
Start application, which will discover your
controllers and allow you to configure
them easily.
See page 18 for details of Quick Start.

Setting up a Single-Blade Controller
Page 6
The Advance Single-Blade controller is designed to be located close to a door
or when limited space is available. It has an integral case which supports either
one 2 Door Blade (supporting 2 doors and 2 readers) or one I/O Blade
(supporting up to 8 supervised inputs and 8 volt-free relay outputs).
The Single-Blade controller can be used with different power options: PoE, PoE+ or
one of a number of supported 12V external power supplies. In addition, an optional
4.2V lithium polymer battery can provide backup for all connected equipment during
power outages.
When selecting the most suitable power supply, calculate:
The total power consumption of the controller itself, its components and the Blade
fitted. This will include:
— Controller quiescent power – 3.0W, max 250mA
— Battery charging power – up to 2.0W, max 167mA (when battery depleted)
— Door Blade, if fitted – 1.0W
— I/O Blade, if fitted – 4.0W
The total power requirements for all the locks, readers, etc. that will be connected
to the Blade.

Attach the case to the wall in the
desired location.
The optical tamper will operate as

Connect a suitable 12V external
power supply, if used.
Connect the IP and/or RS485 cable
as required. See page 18 for details.
If using PoE, IP connection will
apply power to the controller.
Snap the Blade into the controller.
Ensure the Blade is inserted before
any power source is connected.
For Door Blade connections,
see page 8. For I/O Blade
connections, see page 10.
Install the lithium polymer back-up
battery if required.
The battery ensures operation of
equipment during power outage.
Note that data is retained even
without a battery tted.

Setting up a Multi-Blade Controller
The Advance Multi-Blade controller is ideal for installing in a centralised location,
such as a riser cupboard or server room. Each controller can support up to four
Blades, enabling the connection of up to 8 doors / 8 readers, if four door Blades are
fitted. Alternatively, a combination of door and I/O Blades can be used.
The Multi-Blade Controller can be used with different power supplies: 5 Amp external
power, 8 Amp external power, PoE or PoE+. In addition, an optional 12V sealed lead
acid battery can provide backup for all connected equipment during power outages.
(Note that all data is retained when power is lost even without a battery tted).
When selecting the most suitable power supply, calculate:
The total power consumption of the controller itself, its components and fitted
Blades. This will include:
— Controller quiescent power – 3.6W, max 300mA
— Battery charging power – depends on the power supply used, e.g. for 12V 5A
PSU, assume max 6.0W (0.5A)
— Each door Blade fitted – 1.0W
— Each I/O Blade fitted – 4.0W
The total power requirements for all the locks, readers, etc. that will be connected
to all the Blades:

** PoE is not recommended for fully-populated multi-Blade controllers as it does
not provide sucient power.

Connect 12V external power supply,
if used. Select the most appropriate
option: either 5A (2.1mm circular
jack) or 8A (4-pin screw terminal).
Connect the IP and/or RS485 cable
as required. See page 18 for details.
If using PoE, IP connection will
apply power to the controller.
Snap in Blades. Ensure
all required Blades are
inserted before power
is applied.
For Door Blade
connections, see
page 8. For I/O
Blade connections,
see page 10.
Run cabling to the enclosure from all
the doors, readers, locks, inputs and
outputs that are to be connected.
The controller can be installed in
a Grosvenor enclosure or a third-
party enclosure.
Attach the enclosure to the wall using
the fixing points. Install the controller
in the enclosure. Connect the physical
tamper.
The built-in optical tamper
operates automatically when the
enclosure is closed.
Connect a 12V lead-
acid back-up battery if
required.
