PREFACE
This manual is intended for users of products from Getinge
Disinfection AB.
The user manual describes the design and operation of the
machine and the maintenance for which the user is responsible.
The installation manual describes the machine's installation. The
technical manual describes necessary information for operators
and maintenance personnel. The information in the manual must
be complied with to ensure safe and error-free operation.
Read the manual before use.
Before using the machine for the first time, users must read this
manual and familiarize themselves with the functioning and
operation of the machine as well as its safety instructions.
Operators and maintenance personnel must complete training
arranged through Getinge's sales organization.
The information in this manual describes the machine as
dispatched from Getinge Disinfection AB. There may be
differences due to customization for customers or countries.
The machine is accompanied by the following documentation:

1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Symbols in this manual
In this manual, warnings and information are indicated by the
following symbols.
Indicates a hazardous situation that could result in
death, personal injury or damage to property if it is
not avoided.
Points out important details to consider for trouble-
free and efficient use of the machine.
Information text: Read the manual before use.
1.2 Intended use statement
The intended use of the 46-series washer-disinfector is to clean,
thermally or chemically disinfect, and dry surgical goods.
Typical goods for cleaning and thermal disinfection are:
• Instrument containers
• Anesthesia equipment
• Bowls
• Basins
• OP shoes
• Dental instruments
• Glassware, bottles and beakers
• Invasive surgical instruments, MIS instruments

1.2.1 Intended application areas
The washer-disinfector performs the following basic functions:
• Cleaning of medical and laboratory equipment.
• Disinfection of medical and laboratory equipment.
• Drying of medical and laboratory equipment.

1.2.2 Intended user
The intended users of the 46-series washer-disinfector are
operators and service personnel.
Operators
Operators are clinical personnel, who use the machine for its
intended use. A typical person in this user group is a nurse or
assisting nurse.
Typical tasks/responsibilities:
• Daily use, loading/unloading items, choosing and starting
processes and cleaning of equipment.
• Daily, weekly and monthly preventive maintenance to be
performed by this type of staff.
Service personnel
A typical person in this user group is a Getinge technician or a
local technician at the facility.
Typical tasks/responsibilities:
• Installation.
• Yearly preventive maintenance.
• Troubleshooting.
• Emergency shut-downs.
• Education.
• End of service life and recycling.
1.2.3 Intended user environment
The 46-series washer-disinfector is a stationary installation used in
facilities such as Central Sterile Supply Departments (CSSD), next
to the Operating Room, in dental clinics or in hospital wards.
1.3 Potential misuse
• The washer-disinfector is not intended for use with household
detergents.
• The washer-disinfector is not intended for cleaning and
disinfection of bedpans or urine bottles (ISO 15883-3).
• The washer-disinfector is not intended for cleaning and
chemical disinfection of thermolabile endoscopes (ISO
15883-4).

cabinet. The product model and serial number are important when

2 SAFETY
The machine has a number of built-in safety mechanisms. To avoid
injury, it is highly important not to bypass these safety
mechanisms.
2.1 Important
• Read the manual in its entirety before use.
• The machine must be connected in accordance with the
instructions provided in the installation manual.
• The machine should only be handled by authorized
personnel. Personnel must also receive regular training.
• Exercise caution when using the machine because, it uses
hot water and possibly steam.
• Exercise caution when handling the chemical agent used in
the machine. Follow the instructions on the agent container:
oif the agent is swallowed, comes into contact with the
eyes or skin or if vapors are inhaled.
ofor instructions on dosage amount and washing
temperatures.
ofor instructions regarding storage and sorting/disposal of
packing.
• Make sure that the machine has access to detergent before
the process starts. This is important both for the operation of
the machine and for keeping the washing chamber free off
staining.
• The machine must be kept clean so that it will work properly.
• Do not wash down or hose down the machine with water.
• Installation and service work must be performed by trained
personnel.
• Never bypass the machine's door switch under any
circumstances.
• Leakage in the system, due to a worn door seal, for example,
must be repaired without delay.
• The cover plates, top and plinth may not be removed while
the machine is operating. This overrules safety and the
operation of the machine.
• National and local rules may apply and must always be
followed.
• Spare parts must only be obtained from Getinge's sales
companies.
2.2 Isolator switch
The machine must be preceded by a lockable switch for the
electric power supply. The switch must be easily accessible on a
wall close to the machine. The installation must conform to and be
marked in accordance with local regulations.
