1.0 OVERVIEW
Thank you for purchasing this product. Check the contents of the packaging
carefully. It contains:
The SP205EQ unit
This handbook and the certificate of conformity
The power cord
The SP205EQ is a dual 1x5 balanced video and stereo audio distributor that
can, if necessary, be configured as a single 1x10 distributor.
It permits equalization of up to 100m of RGB 59B/U cable, with tolerance
±0.10dB at 5MHz, or up to 300m of the same cable with tolerance ±0.15dB at
5MHz.
It permits as well adjustment of video (±3dB) and audio (±6dB) signal levels.
It is characterised by high level input dynamics for audio signals (>24dBm
with balanced signal).

2.0 POWER SUPPLY
The SP205EQ unit must be powered at 90÷240 Vac 50/60Hz using the cable
provided. The socket of the cable must be inserted in the related panel plug
to the left on the back of the unit.
The panel plug is equipped with a fuse holder for 5X20 fuses. If the fuse
blows, replace it with one of the same rating as specified on the back of the
unit.
All operations must be carried out by qualified personnel only,
who must be informed of the risks of electric shock.
In some countries, the plug of the cable must be adapted to local standard
types. The wires are coded as follows:
Brown PHASE Identified by the letter L, may be red
Blue NEUTRAL Identified by the letter N, may be black
Yellow/green GROUND Identified by the letter E, may be green

A ground connection is compulsory

3.0 INSTALLATION
3.1 Video part
3.1.1 Dual 1x5 distributor
To use the unit as dual 1x5 distributor with two sources, proceed as follows:
a) Make sure that all the units to be installed are OFF.
b) Set the switch on the front panel to the “DUAL 1x5” position
remembering that this setting acts not only on the video but also on the
audio.
c) Connect the first video source to one of the two IN1 connectors and the
second source to one of the two IN2 connectors.
d) If the input signal is not terminated at 75Ω, set the matching switch to
the ON position. If the signal is already terminated at 75Ω, set the
switch to OFF. The switch of input IN1 is located to the left of the
respective BNCs, that of input IN2 is located to the right.
e) The input BNC not used can be left free or can be used, if necessary, to
send the video signal to other units. In this case, remember that
termination at 75Ωmust be carried out at only one point of the chain,
preferably at the end of this. Therefore, in this case, the 75 Ohm switch
must be set to a OFF.
f) Connect the destinations to BNCs 1÷5 “VIDEO OUT” on both sections.
The BNCs at the top refer to section 1, those at the bottom refer to
section 2.
g) Power the SP205EQ and other system units.

3.1.2 1x10 single distributor
To use the unit as 1x10 single distributor, proceed as follows:
a) Make sure that all the units to be installed are OFF.
b) Set the switch on the front panel to the “1x10” position remembering
that this setting acts not only on the video but also on the audio.
c) Connect the video source to one of the two IN1 connectors
d) If the input signal is not terminated at 75Ω, set the switch referring to
the IN1 input (located to the left of the related BNCs) to the ON position.
If the signal is already terminated at 75Ω, set the switch to OFF. The
position of the switch relating to IN2 is not significant in this operating
mode.
e) The BNC not used, relating to input IN1, can be left free or can be used,
if necessary, to send the video signal to other units. In this case,
remember that closing at 75Ωmust be carried out at only one point of
the chain, preferably at the end of this. Therefore, in this case, the 75
Ohm switch must be set to a OFF.
f) As the two IN2 connectors are not used in this operating mode,
connection of these is not significant.
g) Connect the destinations to the “VIDEO OUT” BNCs.
h) Power the SP205EQ and other system units.

WARNING
Output terminal "a" is in phase
with input terminal "a".
Output terminal "b"
is in counter phase in relation to "a"
WARNING
If the destination is unbalanced, connect
terminal "a" and GND.
Leave terminal "b" free or use it
for another destination
3.2 Audio part
3.2.1 Overview
Regardless of the type of configuration used, pay attention to the warnings
below.
3.2.2 Dual 1x5 distributor
To use the unit as dual 1x5 distributor with two sources, proceed as follows:
a) Make sure that all the units to be installed are OFF.
b) Set the switch on the front panel to the “DUAL 1x5” position
remembering that this setting acts not only on the video but also on the
audio.
c) Connect the first audio source to the AUDIO IN1 connectors and the
second source to the AUDIO IN2 connectors.
WARNING
The ground terminal (GND) is
common to the L and R channels
WARNING
If the incoming signal is
unbalanced, connect the hot pin to
terminal "a" and the cold pin to
terminal "b".
Then, jumper "b" with GND
WARNING

d) Connect the destinations to the AUDIO OUT1 and AUDIO OUT2
connectors respectively.
e) Power the SP205EQ and other system units.
3.2.3 Single 1x10 distributor
To use the unit as single 1 x10 distributor, proceed as follows:
a) Make sure that all the units to be installed are OFF.
b) Set the switch on the front panel to the “1x10” position remembering
that this setting acts not only on the video but also on the audio.
c) Connect the audio source to the AUDIO IN1 connectors. As the
AUDIO IN2 connectors are not active in this configuration, their
connection is not significant.
d) Connect the destinations to the AUDIO OUT1 and AUDIO OUT2
connectors.
e) Power the SP205EQ and other system units.

4.0 ADJUSTMENTS
4.1 Adjustment of video signal level
Each of the two video 1x5 sections is fitted with a circuit for independent
adjustment of output signal level, with a maximum range of ±3dB.
With this capability, the user can regulate the output signal if the source used
does not generate a standard amplitude signal (1Vpp).
It must not be used to offset cable losses, for which reference should be
made to the next paragraph.
For calibration, proceed as follows:
a) Using a TV generator, send the unit a signal that permits easy
identification of the level of white (e.g. 75% or 100% bars, multiburst
etc.).
b) Connect one of the outputs of the related section to an oscilloscope or
other suitable video signal measurement instrument.
a) Adjust the trimmer on the front panel (VIDEO1/LEVEL or
VIDEO2/LEVEL according to section) so that white amplitude is 0.7V
(1V including synchronism which must be 300 mV). If the unit is used in
1x10 mode, the adjustments must be made on both trimmers,
monitoring 1 of the 5 outputs at the top when operating on the
VIDEO1/LEVEL trimmer and 1 of the 5 outputs below when adjusting
the VIDEO2/LEVEL trimmer.

4.2 Video equalization
Each of the two sections features a compensation circuit that permits
equalization of the losses of the cable that carries the signal to inputs IN1 and
IN2. Adjustment is made independently for the two inputs using the related
trimmer on the front panel.
The maximum equalizable length is 300m (RG59 B/U cable with tolerance of
±0.15dB) or 100m (RG59 B/U cable with tolerance of ±0.10dB).
WARNING
It is advisable to install the SP205EQ at the end of the cable.
For best results, use a RG59 B/U coax cable
In the case of problems with the amplitude of the signal used as source, it is
good practice to first of all regulate the level (see par. 4.1).
For cable compensation, proceed as follows:
a) Using a TV generator, send a MULTIBURST signal to the unit via the
cable to be equalized.
b) Connect a waveform monitor or oscilloscope with TV synchronism to
one of the outputs of the section to be equalized, taking care to
terminate the input of the instrument at 75Ω.
