WHEELCHAIR MOVER
INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the Dane Technologies WheelChair Mover. With
proper operation and maintenance, the WheelChair Mover will provide
years of dependable service. This manual contains information, which will
assist in the training, operation and maintenance of the WheelChair Mover.
Please read it thoroughly and review it regularly.
The WheelChair Mover is a tool that will increase workplace safety and
productivity. Those goals will only be accomplished if all employees using
the WheelChair Mover are thoroughly trained in the safe operation of the
WheelChair Mover. We urge all of our clients to develop and implement a
training and certification program for all employees using and supervising
the use of the WheelChair Mover.

WheelChair Mover Warnings and Safety Notes
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE:
The red service maintenance switch must be
turned off, the key removed, and the charging cord
unplugged ANY TIME MAINTENANCE IS BEING
PERFORMED!
1) The WheelChair Mover is intended to push various types of manual wheelchairs on
dry surfaced walkways indoors. Any other use of the machine may cause injury or
damage to property and is prohibited unless specifically endorsed by the
manufacturer. Do not use with any standing or motorized wheelchairs.
The maximum load capacity shown is for patient plus wheelchair. Use with heavier
patients degrades the operation of the machine and may cause injury or damage to
property.

2) The WheelChair Mover comes equipped with several warning labels. Read them
before operating the machine.
3) A Wheelchair Owners manual is delivered with this machine. It contains Warning,
Safety Notes and Precautionary notes. Read and understand this manual
before operating the machine.
4) The WheelChair Mover is equipped with a brake that automatically engages when
the machine is turned off or not in motion. To avoid an accident, do not leave the
machine parked or unattended on slopes. When the WheelChair Mover is to be
left unattended or in storage, always turn the switch to the “O” off position. Do not
leave the WheelChair Mover unattended while the switch is in the “I” on position.

5) Driving:
Operate the vehicle only as fast as safety considerations will allow, taking into
consideration the traffic, doors and needs of the patient. Running into other traffic or
doors may cause injury or damage to property
Do not make sharp, abrupt turns at high speeds or while going down an incline. The
operator’s ability to control the machine is reduced in these situations and may
cause injury or damage to property.
Do not operate on inclines with loose material on the surface. Always take operating
conditions, such as wet or slippery floors, into consideration. Do not push more than
the individual trained operator can safely control given those conditions.
Do not drive over objects or irregular surfaces more than 1/2 inch high.
When driving over bumps, dips or inclines, approach them at a 90 degree angle.
Operate indoors only.
Don’t expose the WheelChair Mover to excessive moisture, such as using it in the
rain or spraying it with a hose.
To insure sufficient traction, avoid inclines or ramps having a rise of more than 1
inch (2.5 cm) per one foot (30.5 cm) (federal standard for wheelchair ramps)
Do not drive at full speed into any fixed obstacles or objects as this may result in
personal injury or structural damage.
Do not operate the WheelChair Mover in any position except standing or walking
with the handlebars and throttle directly in front of you.
Do not bend over the machine or controls while the Wheelchair Mover is turned “on”.
Damage or injury may occur.
Only one person may operate the WheelChair Mover controls at any one time.
Do not leave the WheelChair Mover unattended with a patient in the attached
wheelchair.
A trained operator must use one hand on each handlebar while operating the
WheelChair Mover.
No one is allowed on the machine at any time. NO PASSENGERS! No stepping or
standing on any part of the machine.
Do not park on inclines.
6) Operation of Hitch:
Verify that the hitch jaws are fully engaged on every wheelchair, every time.
Do not connect to powered wheelchairs or any item except correctly sized manual
wheelchairs.
A trained operator must stop at any time fluids are spilled on the machine and clean
the machine and wheelchair before beginning or continuing transport.
The transport of a patient must be stopped anytime fluids are spilled.
Follow facility procedures for fluid spills. Report spills as required.
Disconnect the wheelchair from the WheelChair Mover and park the WheelChair
Mover in an appropriate position and turn off. Continue the transport of the patient.

Return later and fully clean the machine or clean at least enough to transport the
machine to a location to be cleaned.
DO not disconnect from the wheelchair while moving.
Verify cleaning of the machine and safe operation of the WheelChair Mover before
resuming patient transport operations.
After impact with the Wheelchair Mover, wheelchair or patient, a qualified individual
must inspect the Wheelchair Mover before being used to transport patients.
Follow facility procedures for patient injury of equipment damage.
7) Maintenance:
Do not lay metal objects (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.) on any of the batteries to
prevent electrical short circuits.
Batteries are heavy. Always use care and proper lifting technique to avoid injury
when removing or replacing batteries. Maintenance or battery changing may only be
performed by qualified maintenance personnel.
Hydrogen gas is formed when charging the batteries. Use adequate ventilation
when charging batteries. Never smoke near batteries. Do not charge batteries in an
area with open flame or around electrical equipment that could cause an electrical
arc.
The electrolyte in a storage battery is an acid, which can cause severe burns to the
skin and eyes. The batteries used in the WheelChair Mover are sealed and need no
attention over their life span. Should battery damage occur, wear appropriate
protective clothing when working with the batteries. Treat all electrolyte spills with
an extended flushing with clear water. Contact a physician immediately if contact is
made with battery acid.

WheelChair Mover Precautionary Notes
1) Improper use and operation of the WheelChair Mover may void the warranty.
2) Always look at the path in front of and behind the WheelChair Mover before
operating the machine and in the direction of motion while operating the machine.
3) Drive cautiously around people, in hallways and rooms.
4) Only operate the WheelChair Mover under adequate and safe lighting conditions.
5) Drive slowly while turning and on inclines especially when operating without a
wheelchair attached.
6) Carefully back down steep inclines when transporting a patient.
7) It is very important that you read Appendix: What you need to know about EMI
regarding the possible effects of electromagnetic interference on your WheelChair
Mover.
8) Store only in a dry environment and avoid temperature extremes.
CAUTION:
Turning the WheelChair Mover off using the red
service maintenance key while in motion will bring
the WheelChair Mover to an abrupt stop. This
sudden stop may cause discomfort to the
wheelchair patient.

The WheelChair Mover is designed to reduce the operating forces when moving
patients in manual wheelchairs.

patient weights, wheelchair widths and other requirements.
