Installation
Speaker Layout Planning
The Landscape satellite speakers and subwoofer should be placed evenly
to distribute sound throughout the outdoor area. Fully plan out the
locations of all satellite speakers and the subwoofer before beginning
the installation process.
Speaker Location
The satellite speakers REFERENCE OD4-BRZ-T-EACH should be placed
from 8 to 10 feet (2.4 to 3 meters) apart for best coverage (see figure
A). One satellite speaker will provide sound to about 200 to 500 sq ft,
depending on your loudness requirements. The speakers can be installed
at ground level using stakes (included).
NOTE: The included stakes measure about 12.43 in. (316 mm) in length.
For longer stakes use the SPKA-STAKE-OD-18 optional accessory.
Subwoofer Location
Select a location for the subwoofer near the middle of the satellite
speaker arrangement (see figure A). The subwoofer will provide bass to
approximately a 1500 sq ft area.

Speaker Installation
1. Place the four satellite speakers in their approximate final locations.
2. Dig a 4 to 5 in. (102-127 mm) deep trench to run the speaker cables
(not included) that will run from the amplifier to each speaker's
hardwired direct-burial cable (included). Make sure trenching is done
as per local codes.
3. Run the speaker cable through the trench from the amplifier to the
first speaker location.

4. Once the speakers are laid out in their final locations and the wiring is
completed per this installation guide, install the speakers as follows:
a. Pull the speaker cable through the top of the stake and out either
side on the bottom opening (see figure B).
b. Drive the ground stake (included) into the ground.
lFor installation in soft soil: The stake can be installed without
excavating the soil. Push the stake down into the soil.
lFor installation in hard soil: Dig a hole for the stake. Place the
stake in the hole with the top cylinder of the stake above
ground level. Hold the stake straight while backfilling and
compacting the soil.
c. Attach the speaker to the stake by turning the speaker clockwise
until it is mounted properly (see figure B).

Subwoofer Installation
1. Place the subwoofer in its approximate final location.
2. Dig a hole with the following minimum dimensions to bury the
subwoofer:
lDepth: 7.87-12.40 in. (200-315 mm)
lDiameter: 18 in. (457 mm)
3. Prepare a flat bed for the subwoofer that is free of voids and large
rocks (see figure C).
NOTE: The hole must be deep enough to allow a 2 to 4 in. (51 to 102
mm) layer of material (sand and gravel mix or other material
approved by local codes) and position the base of the speaker 6 to
8.5 in. (152 to 216 mm) below ground level.
Figure C
4. Place the subwoofer into the ground.
NOTE: Ensure that the vents are exposed and the top of the
subwoofer is about 4 in. (102 mm) above the ground level – it should
not be buried or set at ground level.

Connect the Speaker Cable
1. Pull the 2-conductor speaker cable (not included) to the furthest
speaker location, leaving it connected to the spool near the amplifier.
2. Starting at the first speaker and every speaker that follows, create a
loop of cable approximately 6 in. (152 mm) in length and secure the
loop with the wire tie (not included) as shown in figure D.
Figure D
3. Cut the cable at the last speaker location in the daisy chain closest to
the amplifier.
4. Take the spool back to the starting point and pull a second 2-
conductor wire to the furthest speaker location and repeat steps 1
and 2.
5. Use a round cable stripper (not included) to strip the insulation
approximately 0.75 in. (19 mm) of copper as shown in figure E.

6. Starting with the first speaker, cut the cable loop as shown in figure
F.

7. Combine and twist all left channel positive (+) cables together in a
clockwise motion. Next, repeat this step for all the negative (-)
cables.
8. Secure the three positive (+) cables together (cable from the
amplifier, hardwired speaker cable from the first speaker, and cable
to the rest of the speakers) using the wire nuts, ensuring that no
copper is exposed (see figure G). Repeat this step for all the negative
(-) cables.

NOTES:
lThe speaker includes a hardwired direct-burial speaker cable.
lMake sure that the positive cable is attached to the red
connection, and the negative cable is attached to the black
connection.
lBe sure not to let any stray ’+’ and ’-’ strands touch each other.
Touching strands will cause a short-circuit which could damage
the amplifier.
lEach REFERENCE OD4-BRZ-T-EACH speaker presents a 16 ohm
load to the amplifier, and is designed to be wired in parallel
either with additional REFERENCE OD4-BRZ-T-EACH speakers
and/or with the subwoofer included in the REFERENCE OD4.1-4-
S10-BRZ-T KIT. These speakers are also suitable replacements
for the speakers in the REFERENCE OD4.1-4-S10-BRZ-T KIT.
9. Repeat steps 5 to 8 for the left channel for each successive speaker.
10. Follow the same procedure to connect the right channel positive and
negative speaker cables.
11. Connect the remainder of the speakers.
12. The subwoofer needs to be connected in the same manner as the
satellite speaker (see figure H).
NOTES:
lThe subwoofer has dual voice coils, one for the left channel and
one for the right channel, it is critical that the positive and
negative cables be connected correctly for both channels. If
either channel is connected incorrectly, no low-frequency sound
will be produced.
