TerraMiner User Guide 1

Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a TerraMiner, the highest-performing dedicated Bitcoin mining hardware
available on the market today.
These instructions will explain how to set up and configure the TerraMiner, however if you have any
technical support questions you may get in touch with us at support@cointerra.com or call us at
+1 (512) 270-6050 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm Central Time) and include your CoinTerra Order ID.
Please retain the packaging in which the TerraMiner shipped. Should you need
to return your TerraMiner to CoinTerra for servicing or repair you will be
required to ship the unit in the original packaging.
Operating Environment & Safety Warnings
Situate and operate the TerraMiner in a cool, dry environment, away from radiators or other heat
sources. Extremes in temperature will affect the TerraMiner’s performance and may cause irreparable
damage to the unit. The TerraMiner should not be used near water or excessive moisture. The
TerraMiner is designed to operate at a room temperature between 5° C and 35° C (41° F-95° F) and up to
4000 ft. above sea level.
Leave enough clearance at both the front and rear of the TerraMiner to allow proper ventilation and
ensure that all fan grills are unobstructed.
To help maintain proper system operation, check regularly that all fan grills are free from potential
blockages (such as dust or pet hair) that may affect the unit’s cooling efficiency. Any restrictions to
airflow can result in damage to the TerraMiner. The TerraMiner should be turned off and both power
cables disconnected from the power supplies before cleaning. Use a cloth to clear the vents at the front
and back of the TerraMiner of any dust or material that has collected there.
Do not insert objects, fingers or other body parts into any fan grill or vent in the TerraMiner, this can be
hazardous and may result in an electrical shock and/or fire and may damage the unit.
To protect the TerraMiner from damage in case of changes in the electrical power supply, the use of a
surge protector or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) rated for at least 15 amps per TerraMiner power
supply (i.e. 2 x 15 amps or 1 x 30 amps) is recommended. The socket outlet shall be installed near the
equipment and shall be easily accessible.
In the event of an electrical storm the TerraMiner should be disconnected to protect it from damage.
The TerraMiner is designed to operate in a horizontal position, either on a desk or rack-mounted.
Operation in any other position is not recommended. Never rest the TerraMiner on its back plane facing
upwards as this may damage the rear of the unit.
The TerraMiner is a self-contained device with no user-serviceable parts inside. Opening the
TerraMiner’s case will void the product warranty.

Connecting the TerraMiner
Network
Before powering up the TerraMiner it should be connected to a permanent broadband Internet
connection by plugging it into a network router or switch using a standard CAT5e network cable. The use
of wireless or cellular connections is not recommended. The TerraMiner should always be properly
secured on the network; please see the Security Advisories section for details.
Power
The TerraMiner incorporates dual power supplies which each operate at 110-240VAC, 50-60Hz
12-5 Amps. Depending on the location’s operating voltage and the circuits’ amperage capacity, each
power supply may need to be connected to a separate circuit. The approximate amperage required for
each power supply can be calculated by dividing the peak wattage by the voltage (for example
1300W ÷ 120V = 11 amps per supply in the USA, or 1300W ÷ 230V = 5.7 amps in Europe.)
Do not connect the TerraMiner to power extension cords, power strips, multi-
outlet adapters or other power connections that are not rated to deliver at least
15 amps (20 amps recommended) per power supply.
The labels on the side or rear of the TerraMiner’s chassis indicate the order in which the power supplies
should be connected:
To boot up the TerraMiner:
Connect both power cords within 3 seconds of each other in the designated order (if they are not
both powered up within this time it is possible that the controller card will not recognize both
GoldStrike boards inside the TerraMiner.)
After a few seconds, the CTR1 LED on the front of the TerraMiner should first turn orange.
When the system has completed booting, the CTR1 LED will turn green to indicate that the
TerraMiner is operational, or red if there is a network connectivity issue (such as a disconnected
network cable.)

Finding the TerraMiner IP Address
By default, the TerraMiner will be automatically assigned an IP address on your network using DHCP.
You will need to determine the TerraMiner’s IP address so that it can be access from your web browser
and configured.
Network Router
If you have admin access to your network router you can log into its web control panel and view the list
of attached devices in order to obtain the IP address of the TerraMiner on the network. The TerraMiner
will be identified with device name followed by its on-board controller ID, for example:
If you have difficulty accessing your router’s admin panel you may be able to log in via a default admin
password, a list of which can be found at http://www.routerpasswords.com
It may be possible to perform a factory restore on the router in order to reset it to the default password
(refer to the router’s User Guide for instructions.) Please note that this will completely reset the router’s
configuration and all stored settings will be cleared.
Network Sniffing Tools
If you cannot access the router’s admin panel you can obtain the TerraMiner’s IP address by installing
and running one of the following tools to list devices on the network:
Wireshark (Windows, Mac) http://www.wireshark.org/download.html
AngryIP Scanner (Windows, Mac, Linux) http://angryip.org/w/Download
Advanced IP Scanner (Windows) http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com

Entering the TerraMiner IP Address
Once you have identified the IP address, open a web browser on a device connected to the same
network and enter the TerraMiner’s IP address in the URL address bar.
When prompted for login credentials, the username is admin and the password should be left blank.
You may use either a HTTP or HTTPS connection to connect with the TerraMiner. If you use HTTPS, you
may be given a warning that your browser does not recognize the TerraMiner’s security certificate. You
should click on Proceed Anyway or Continue.
Updating the TerraMiner to the Latest Firmware
The first thing you should do is to download and install the very latest TerraMiner firmware from the
CoinTerra website. Please refer to the System Upgrade section of this user guide for instructions.
TerraMiner User Guide 6

Configuring the TerraMiner
The TerraMiner’s control panel is split into four screens: Status, Network, Configuration and Advanced.
Status Screen
The Status screen displays the current operational status of the TerraMiner. The top section of the
screen indicates the total values for the TerraMiner followed by the individual values for each GoldStrike
board, designated as CTA0 and CTA1.
The values indicated are:
Hash Rate The average hash rate of the TerraMiner since CGMiner was last restarted. It
can take 12 hours for this value to stabilize and show a representative indication
of the true hash rate.
Accepted The number of weighted accepted shares (normalized to difficulty 1.)
Rejected The number of weighted rejected shares (normalized to difficulty 1.) Because of
the normalization, a single rejected share can contribute a large number of
weighted rejected shares.
Errors The number of hardware errors reported. This number is not of concern unless
it is consistently more than 1% of the total number of weighted accepted
shares.
TerraMiner User Guide 7

Below this section is Metrics, which shows the High, Low and Average values for the GoldStrike boards.
All temperatures are in degrees Celsius.
Core Temp 1 (⁰C) The temperature of the first GoldStrike ASIC on the board.
Core Temp 2 (⁰C) The temperature of the second GoldStrike ASIC on the board.
Ambient Temp (⁰C) The temperature recorded at board level.
Fan Speed (RPM) The average speed of the fans connected to the board.
Pump Speed (RPM) The speed of the liquid cooling pump.
TerraMiner User Guide 8

Network Screen
The Network screen defaults to DHCP enabled, which will cause the network router to select a free IP
address on the internal network.
However, if you wish to set a static IP address or modify the subnet, gateway or DNS settings you can
uncheck the DHCP check box and configure the TerraMiner with your own network settings.
The IP address and other settings listed above are examples only. The settings
for your own system will be unique to your network installation.
