 ‘lockingswitch’tolockposion.Insertcorrectlyloadedbaerycasseein

 toGEMIIbody.

2.Applyagenerousquantyofwaterbasedgeltoringsurface.

3. Slidengerguardunderring.

4. InsertGEMIIguidearmdiscintongerguardguideblock.Restcungdisc

 onringsurface.AcvatemotorallowingtheweightoftheGEMIIcung

 headalonetoprovidethenecessarydownwardpressureontothecung

 disc.

5. MoveGEMIIbackandforthalongguideblocksothatcung 

disctraversestheenrewidthofthering.Asuddenincrease 

inrotaonspeedindicatesringhasbeencutthrough.

6. Ifpaentwarnsofheatbuild-upstopcungimmediately, 

cleangelfromringsurfaceandre-applyfreshgelandconnue 

READ INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE

Light eye protecon should be worn by operator and paent.

• NeveruseringcuerwithoutngerguardorPerspexshieldinplaceorifeithercomponentis 

 damaged.

• NeveruseanypowersourceotherthandomescAAsizebaeriescapableofdeliveringa

 maximumvoltageof6vDC.

• Nevermodifytheringcuertorunonmainspower.

• NeverexaminearotangcungdiscexceptthroughthePerspexshield.

• Neverreusedamagedorbadlyworndiscs.

• Never start cung through a ring without rst applying a signicant quanty of water based

gel to the ring surface. The gel acts as a heat sink, traps cut ring debris and impedes

trajectory of parcles from a rotang disc.

• Neveroperatetheringcuerinanatmospherewhereasparkcouldcauseanexplosion.

• Neveruseorre-useacungdiscifeitheroneorbothplascwasherssupporngthediscare 

 missing.

• Alwaysengagethe“Lock”immobiliserswitchtodeacvatethemotorwhen:

 a) Mounngordisconnecngacungdisc.

 b) Engagingthengerguard.

 c) Pausingduringcungtoexaminethecungprogress.

 d) Wipingawayusedgelandreapplyingfreshgel.

 e) Whenringcuerisnotbeingacvelyusedorleunaendedwhenstored.

Always:

• Examinecungdiscspriortouse.Discardanydamagedorbadlyworndiscs.

• Restthecungbladeontheringsurfacebeforeacvangthemotor.

• Warn the paent that the cung process generates heat and that the paent should warn

the operator if the heat build-up is causing discomfort. If this happens the cung process

must stop. The water based gel wiped from the ring surface and fresh cold gel reapplied

before re-starng the cung process.

• Cleanngerguardunitaeruse.

• RemovebaeryholderfromGEMbodyaeruse.

• Stop motor aer 10 minutes of connuous use and allow motor to cool down for 15 minutes

before re-starng.

Maintenance Instructions

The ring cuer may be wiped down with any decontaminaon soluon but must not be soaked

in uid or autoclaved.

DISC CARE

Removedisc(RETAINLOCKINGSCREW).Examinediscfordamageorexcessivewear-ifthisisthe

case,replacedisc.

FINGER GUARD CARE

Cleanupngerguardandguidechannelofngerguard.Examinemetalguard;makesuredisc

hasn’tcutthrough.Ifsoreplacemetalguard.

PERSPEX SHIELD CARE

WipeanyresiduefromPerspexshield.

Aer use, examinaon and cleaning, always return the GEM II Ring Cuer and its components

back to their alloed spaces in the GEM II presentaon case.

Baeries have been loaded into baery

cassee incorrectly. Re-load baeries into

cassee in the correct order and make sure

the arrows on the baery cassee and the

GEM II unit are aligned.

A carbide disc acng on a so metal, i.e.

Gold wedding ring approximately 4mm

wide by 1mm thick will cut through 10-15

rings.

A diamond disc acng on a hard metal, i.e.

steel 4mm wide by 1mm thick would be

capable of cung through approximately 6

rings allowing for the fact that a hard metal

requires cung in 2 separate locaons on

the ring.

N.B. The cung surface of the ring must be kept as cool as pos-

sible to preserve the diamond grit on the cung edge of the disc.

This is achieved by cung for 3 or 4 seconds, pausing for a second

and repeang the process.

Rings made of hard metals when cut

through tend to close up trapping the

cung disc. This is due to the high tensile

strength in the metal. Parally cung

through a ring signicantly reduces the ten-

sion in the ring so that when the ring is cut

through on the opposing side to the rst cut

the ring won’t collapse in on itself and trap

the cung disc.
