The module is then ready for use.

LYou can now safely connect the cables to the unit.

Connect the Ports

Connecting the Universal Serial Ports

In order to connect a USP module to the network use one of the following options:

• V.35 – use the Avaya Serial Cable DTE V.35 (catalog number: 700247588)

• X.21 – use the Avaya Serial Cable DTE X.21 (catalog number: 700247596)

LNote: The X330W-2USP module functions as DTE.

Connecting the FastEthernet Port

A UTP Category 5 cable must be connected to the 100Base-TX port, via an RJ45 connector. The

maximum UTP cable length connected to the 10/100 Mbps port operating as 10/100BASE-T

is 100 m (328 ft.).

LYou can obtain appropriate cables from your local supplier.

LIf you are connecting the FastEthernet port to a PC or workstation, you should use a

crossed cable.

LIf you are connecting the FastEthernet port to another switch, you should use a straight

cable.

Connecting the Console Port

Each Avaya X330W-2USP module has one serial port on the front panel for connecting a

terminal, a terminal emulator, or a modem. The serial port on the front panel is labeled

“Console” and has an RJ-45 socket.

1 Insert the RJ-45 plug on the console cable into the Console port of the Avaya X330W-2USP

module.

2 Insert the other end into the RJ-45 socket in the supplied DB-9 adapter.

3 Insert the DB-9 plug into the serial (COM) port on the PC or terminal.

LTo connect a modem, use the cable and an RJ-45 to DB-25 adapter.

LThe cable and two adapters can be found in the Avaya P330 accessory set supplied with

P330 switches, and they are clearly marked.

Configure the Module

LBefore you can set up the X330W-2USP module you must power on and set up the

Avaya P330 stack as described in the Avaya P330 User’s Guide.

LYou can configure the X330W-2USP module either via its console port or by opening a

session to the module from the P330 switch in which the module is installed using the

session wan command.

Avaya CLI Hints and Tips

CLI Command Conventions

• CLI commands for you to enter are in the computer bold font.

• Information displayed on screen as well as parameters of a command are displayed in

computer font.

• Parameters that you enter are in pointed brackets <>.

• Alternative but mandatory keywords are grouped in braces {} and separated by a vertical bar

• Optional keywords are in square brackets [ ] and options are separated by a vertical bar |.

• If you enter an alphanumeric string of two words or more, enclose the string in quotes.

The Avaya CLI has several features which improve ease of use:

• To display all commands available in a context type a question mark.

• To display all commands starting with a certain string, type the first few letters followed by a

question mark.

• To get help containing all commands parameters with their legal values as well as its syntax

and an example, type a question mark at the end of command or at the stage where it is

unique.

• Use the Tab key to complete an unambiguous command.

The following steps describe how to configure the X330W-2USP module using the Avaya CLI.

Connect the DB-9 connector to the serial (COM) port on your PC/terminal.

2 Use the following serial port settings on the PC: 9600 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit and no parity. If

you connected a PC, run a VT-100 emulation session. (You can use the Windows®

HyperTerminal.)

LThe terminal connected to the serial port must be configured with the same settings; this

setting will work with any PC COM port over a DB9 to RJ45 connector.

3 Press the Enter key.

4 When prompted for a Login Name, enter the default name root.

5 When promoted for a password, enter the password root.

Establishing a Modem Connection

LA PPP connection with a modem can be established only after the X330W-2USP is

configured with an IP address and net-mask. Also, the parameters used in the

X330W-2USP must be compatible with the remote peer parameters.

LAll CLI commands mentioned in this section are described in the Avaya X330WAN

User’s Guide.

To configure a modem interface:

1 Connect a terminal to the Console port of the X330W-2USP as described in “Connecting the

Console Port”.

2 When prompted for a Login Name, enter the default name root and press Enter.

3 When prompted for a password, enter the password root and press Enter. You are now in

Supervisor mode.

4 At the prompt, type: interface Console and press Enter.

5 Use the ip address <ip_addr> <net-mask> command entering an IP address and

netmask to be used by the remote peer to connect via its console interface to the X330W-

2USP.

LThe console interface configured with the interface Console command must be on a

different subnet from the router interfaces.

6 Use the following commands to set the baud rate, ppp authentication, ppp chap-secret and

ppp timeout required to match your remote station if they differ from the default values:

LThe default values are shown in bold italic text.

speed <9600 | 19200 | 38400>

ppp authentication <chap |none | pap>

ppp chap-secret <string>

timeout absolute <time>

LThe time is in minutes.

7 Type: async mode interactive

XThe following is displayed:

8 Use the supplied DB-25 to RJ-45 connector to plug the console cable to the modem’s DB-25

connector. Plug the other end of the cable RJ-45 connector to the Console port on the

X330W-2USP.

XThe X330W-2USP enters Modem mode within one minute.

XYou can now dial from a remote station, and open a Telnet session to the IP address

configured in step 5.

Entering the Modem mode would occur automatically upon

proprietary modem-cable plug-in into the console port.

The terminal mode would be restarted automatically upon

insertion of proprietary terminal-cable.

Configuring Loopback Interfaces

LAll CLI commands mentioned in this section are described in the X330WAN User’s

Guide.

To configure Loopback interfaces:

1 Use the interface loopback <loopback number> command to enter the Interface

Loopback mode. For example, typing interface loopback 1 configures a loopback with a

Loopback interface number 1.

XThe prompt changes to X330WAN-2USP-N(super-if:Loopbackn)#

where N is the switch number and n is the loopback interface number.

2Usetheip address <ip_addr> <net-mask> command to assign an IP address and subnet

mask to the interface.

XThe following is displayed:

3 Type exit to return to Supervisor mode. The prompt returns to X330WAN-2USP-N(super)#.

4 Enter the copy running-config startup-config command.

5 Check that the running state is “idle” by entering the show copy status command

6 Reset the switch using the reset command.

Configuring FastEthernet Interfaces

LAll CLI commands mentioned in this section are described in the X330WAN User’s

Guide.

To configure FastEthernet interfaces:

1 Use the interface FastEthernet <if-number> command to enter the Interface

Configuration mode, where the if-number format is port[.ip-interface index].

LYou do not need to include the ip-interface index if you configure only one IP interface.

XThe prompt changes to X330WAN-2USP-N(super-if:FastEthernetn)#, where nis the

interface number.

2Usetheip address <ip_addr> <net-mask> command to assign an IP address and subnet

mask to the interface.

3Type

exit to return to Supervisor mode.

XThe prompt returns to X330WAN-2USP-N(super)#.

The primary management interface has changed. For this change to

take effect, you need to copy running-config startup-config and

then reset the device.

Configuring the FabricFastEthernet Interface

To configure a FabricFastEthernet interface:

1 Use the interface FabricFastEthernet <if-number> command to enter the

FabricFastEthernet interface context, where the if-number format is port[:vlan[.ip-

interface index]].

LYou do not need to include the ip-interface index if you configure only one IP interface.

2Usethe

ip address command to assign an IP address to the interface.

For example: To configure the IP addresses 10.10.10.1 on VLAN 2 and 20.20.20.1 and

30.30.30.1 on VLAN 3 perform the following:

X330WAN-2USP-1(super)# interface FabricFastEthernet 1:2

X330WAN-2USP-1(super-if:FabricFastEthernet1:2)# ip address 10.10.10.1 24

X330WAN-2USP-1(super-if:FabricFastEthernet1:2)# exit

X330WAN-2USP-1(super)# interface FabricFastEthernet 1:3.1

X330WAN-2USP-1(super-subif:FabricFastEthernet1:3.1)# ip address 20.20.20.1 24

X330WAN-2USP-1(super-subif:FabricFastEthernet1:3.1)# exit

X330WAN-2USP-1(super)# interface FabricFastEthernet 1:3.2

X330WAN-2USP-1(super-subif:FabricFastEthernet1:3.2)# ip address 30.30.30.1 24

interface you want to configure.

2 If you require Frame Relay encapsulation, continue with step 6.

LAfter the interface is created, its default encapsulation is PPP.

3 Use the ip address <ip address> <mask> command to assign an IP address and a Subnet

mask to the interface.

4Type

exit to return to Supervisor mode.

LIf you need to define more than one IP address on the interface, enter a new interface

serial n.m context, where n is the port number and m is the additional IP interface

index. (For example: typing interface serial 1.1 enables you to configure an IP interface on

interface Serial 1, in addition to the IP interface created in step 3.)

5 Repeat steps 1 through 4 to configure the second USP interface if needed.

6 Use the encapsulation frame-relay command to change the encapsulation type to Frame

Relay.

LThe default value for Frame Relay lmi type is auto-learning, supporting both Annex-A

(Q933) and Annex-D (ANSI).

7Type

exit to return to Supervisor mode.

8 Use the interface serial <if-number>[<if-link-type>] command to enter the Frame

Relay Sub-interface context. (For example, typing interface serial 2.1 point-to-point

creates a Point-to-Point type Sub-interface 1 on port 2.)

LCurrently only Point-to-Point Sub-interface types are supported.

9 Configure a Data Link Connection Identifier (DLCI) for the Sub-interface using the frame-

relay interface-dlci <DLCI number> command.

10 Configure an IP address for the Sub-interface using the ip address <ip address> <mask>

command.

11 Type exit to return to Supervisor mode.

12 Repeat steps 8 through 11 to configure additional Frame Relay Sub-interfaces on the same

Frame Relay interface.

LIf you need to define more than one IP address on the Frame Relay sub-interface, enter a

new interface serial n.m.x context, where nis the port number, mis the sub-

interface index and xis the additional IP interface index.

For example: typing interface serial 1.1.1 enables you to configure an IP interface

on interface Serial 1, sub-interface 1 in addition to the IP interface created in step 10.
