Alcatel OmniAccess 1200R Manual de usuario

The Alcatel OmniAccess 1200R remote edge access point extends Alcatel’s security,
performance, and RF management capabilities to enterprise branch offices. Similar
to the Alcatel OmniAccess 1200, the OmniAccess 1200R works in conjunction with
Alcatel OmniAccess 4000 WLAN switches and OmniAccess 4100 WLAN appliances to
deliver IT managers and network operators a scalable, intelligent solution to meet
all of their Wi-Fi infrastructure needs.
The Alcatel OmniAccess 1200R remote edge access point communicates with wireless LAN
(WLAN) switches and appliances via a wide area network (WAN) link, enabling it to be
deployed without a locally connected switch or appliance. This enables easy RF
management of remote facilities, and ensures that WLAN capabilities can be extended to
distributed locations with minimal hardware investment.
The OmniAccess 1200R requires no manual configuration. It leverages the Lightweight
Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) to detect the best WLAN switch or appliance via a low-speed
wide area link (i.e., T1, frame relay, etc.) After associating with a switch or appliance, all of
the appropriate WLAN configuration information is pushed from the WLAN
switches/appliances to the OmniAccess 1200R. This enables IT managers to control SSIDs,
security parameters, and even software upgrades from a data center.
Alcatel’s powerful AirView software is used to dynamically adjust the parameters on the
OmniAccess 1200R, enabling it to adapt to changing RF conditions, including channel
assignments and transmission power. By handling both traffic delivery and air monitoring
functions simultaneously, the OmniAccess 1200R automatically tracks wireless devices and
provides real-time wireless intrusion protection for seamless and secure WLAN operation.
Alcatel OmniAccess 1200R Remote Edge Access Point

The Alcatel OmniAccess 1200R has sectorized internal radios and antennas as well as
external antenna connectors. These different antenna and radio options allow the
1200R to be deployed in a variety of different applications. The Alcatel OmniAccess
1200R is plenum rated, ensuring the Alcatel solution can be deployed in different
physical scenarios while meeting all local building code requirements.
A powerful solution for remote offices
With the Alcatel OmniAccess 1200R, no WLAN switches or appliances are required
in remote facilities. The OmniAccess 1200R communicates with the WLAN switch or
appliance at a centralized location via a WAN connection. This reduces the capital
investments required for building a wireless network without sacrificing functionality.
Compared to traditional access points (APs), the OmniAccess 1200R reduces
deployment and management costs by alleviating the need for manual configuration. IT
staff is relieved from day-to-day WLAN management burdens since Alcatel WLAN
switches and appliances automatically handle all configuration, software updates, and
policy enforcement on Alcatel APs.
The OmniAccess 1200R provides simultaneous 801.11a/b/g data service and real-
time air monitoring. This eliminates the need for multiple types of access points to
handle different application requirements. In addition, it eliminates the need to deploy
separate monitoring devices for wireless intrusion protection and RF security.

Security
The Alcatel remote edge access point works in tandem with Alcatel WLAN
switches/appliances and the Alcatel OmniVista Air Control System (ACS) software to
create a secure yet manageable wireless solution. IT managers can choose from an
array of security options, including WEP, WPA, 802.1x, IPSec, and VPN pass-through.
The OmniAccess 1200R will support the emerging 802.11i standard via software
upgrades, ensuring the Alcatel solution fits in with the enterprise’s long term security
requirements.
The OmniAccess 1200R ships with built-in X.509 certificates which prevent malicious
users from “spoofing” an access point to gain unauthorized access to an Alcatel
network. In addition, Alcatel offers the only WLAN access point that provides both air
monitoring and data services simultaneously, providing rogue access point
containment and intrusion detection in a single cost effective platform.
