This instruction manual is part of this snatch strap. It contains important information
relating to the product.
Carefully read before using this snatch strap with particular attention to the Warnings, Key
Information and Recommendations within this users guide.
Australia oers some of the world’s best o road playgrounds and when it comes to
getting o road, having the correct recovery equipment is imperative. Even the most
experienced o road enthusiasts will encounter the need to use recovery gear and the
snatch strap is deemed to be one of the most important pieces of equipment in your
recovery gear collection.
Using recovery gear can be extremely dangerous and should always be treated with
caution. Take the time to assess your situation as every recovery will be dierent and it is
vital you always put safety rst during a vehicle recovery.
Good quality snatch straps are mostly manufactured with nylon that when used will
stretch like a giant rubber band. When the strap is placed under load, i.e between two
vehicles, the tension that is created delivers a kinetic energy that aids in the “snatching”of
the vehicle that is in need of recovery. That is how the phrase snatch strap came to term,
also commonly called a recovery strap.
INTENDED USE
A snatch strap is used when a vehicle is unable to continue momentum using its own
power. This could be a result of getting bogged in sand or mud, loosing traction on gravel.
This product should only be used for private recreational purposes and is not designed for
professional, trade or commercial purposes.

GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS
• Always follow the product instructions.
• Persons intending to use the snatch strap should consider completing a nationally
recognised four wheel drive training course, or contact a four wheel drive club for
comprehensive advice on the proper selection and use of the strap.
• Persons intending to use the strap must ensure that the strap is not damaged and is
in usable condition.
WARNING
• The strap must not be used for lifting or conventional towing.
WARNING
• Before attempting the vehicle recovery, passengers of the vehicle must :
• (i) Exit the vehicle
• (ii) Stand as far away from the vehicle as possible
• (iii) Avoid standing in the path of the vehicles performing the recovery
• Never exceed the Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) of a strap, or the Working
Load Limit (WLL) or Safe Working Load (SWL) of shackles.
• The strap’s strength and stretch are reduced when the strap is saturated with water
and can reduce the MBS by 20%.
• An object such as a recovery damper, heavy bag or blanket must be draped over the
strap during use to reduce any unintentional rebound of the strap.
• It is important to correctly attach the motor vehicle recovery strap to a motor vehicle.
• A standard tow ball or vehicle tie-down point is not designed for this purpose and
may result in the strap or a vehicle component detaching from a motor vehicle and
striking and seriously injuring or killing a person. Only attach the strap to a vehicle
recovery point or device that is suitably rated for use with the strap.
• Never connect two snatch straps with a bow shackle or metal object - if a snatch strap
broke in this situation the bow shackle/metal object could become a projectile and
cause serious damage, injury or death.
• When using shackles always use approved rated shackles.

8
GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS CONT.
• Continued jerking or high speeds during a recovery can damage the snatch strap,
recovery points and vehicle chassis.
• Never attempt to recover a vehicle without all the necessary equipment.
• Recovery Straps require time to return to the original length after being used. It is
important to allow this process to occur as short frequent excessive usage can cause
heat build-up and potential failure.
Vehicle OCCUPANTS and BYSTANDERS have been KILLED by ying projectiles (such as tow
balls) when recovery straps have been attached incorrectly.
NEVER attach recovery straps to vehicle ttings such as tow balls, tow bars, tie down points or
tow hooks.
ONLY attach recovery straps to an APPROVED recovery point/ device that is suitably rated for
use with the strap.
BEFORE attempting a vehicle recovery all passengers must exit the vehicles and stand as far
away as possible.

KEY INFORMATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
• It is recommended that the minimum breaking strength of the strap should be
between 2 and 3 times the vehicles GVM.
• The strap must be suited to the GVM of the lighter of the 2 vehicles used in the
recovery process.
• It is important the correctly rated strap is used. A strap that is under rated for the
recovery may break under load. A strap that is over rated may not stretch properly,
thus placing additional stress on the recovery points and chassis of the vehicle.
• Inspect strap before every use.
• If the strap is damaged in any way do not use.
• Keep strap away from sharp edges especially when under load.
• Exposing the strap to high temperatures may cause damage and is to be avoided.
• Always use rated vehicle recovery points when performing a recovery operation.
• Never use a tow ball to secure a recovery/snatch strap.
• A strap under load should not be dragged across any surface.
• Inspection of rated recovery points regularly is recommended to determine if
any damage has occurred through bottoming out and general o road activity.
A damaged recovery point could result in a failed recovery.
IT IS RECOMMENDED TO INSTALL RECOVERY POINTS BY AN
AUTHORISED MECHANICAL INSTALLER

10
USAGE
Getting Set Up
• Assess the area the recovery is about to take place and look for potential hazards
before you start the set up / recovery.
• Check around and under the vehicle and clear the area as much as practical.
• Situate the recovery vehicle in line with the vehicle needing assistance.
• Distance between the vehicles should be set 2 – 3 metres less than the length of the
snatch strap.
• Determine best form of communication, either UHF radio, horn signals or a hands-
free mobile phone. It is recommended the vehicle needing assistance manage the
process and give direction to the recovery vehicle’s driver.
Connecting the Snatch Strap
• Inspect the snatch strap and ensure it is free of defects. If defects are present the strap
could break, DO NOT USE.
• Check the strap’s rating and if it is suitable for the recovery.
• Lay the strap between the vehicles ensuring 2 – 3m of slack is available.
• Ensure the strap is not twisted, knotted or kinked.
• Attach Strap to a RATED vehicle recovery point. It should be noted that often factory
tted tow hooks are not rated and should not be used as recovery points.
• When connecting the snatch strap to the vehicles avoid sharp edges and hot surfaces.
• Attach a recovery damper blanket approx. half way
along the snatch strap.
• If using a bow shackle to connect to the vehicle
ensure it is a RATED SHACKLE. Look for WWL or SWL
markings and is adequate for the recovery
being conducted.
• NEVER CONNECT A SNATCH STRAP TO
A TOW BALL OR UNRATED POINT.
