rial losses.
Safety instructions explained
Danger
This symbol warns against the
risk of injury.
!Please note
This symbol warns against the
risk of material losses and envi-
ronmental pollution.
Note
Details identified by the word "Note" con-
tain additional information.
Target group
These instructions are exclusively
designed for qualified contractors.
■ Work on the refrigerant circuit must
only be carried out by qualified and
authorised refrigeration engineers
■ Work on electrical equipment must
only be carried out by a qualified elec-
trician
■ The system must be commissioned by
the system installer or a qualified per-
son authorised by the installer
Regulations
Observe the following when working on
this system:
■ National installation requirements
■ Legal instructions regarding the pre-
vention of accidents
■ Legal instructions regarding environ-
mental protection
■ The Code of Practice of relevant trade
associations
■ All current safety regulations as
defined by DIN, EN, DVGW, VDE and
all locally applicable standards
aÖNORM, EN and ÖVE
cSEV, SUVA, SVTI and SWKI
Working on the system
■ Isolate the system from the power sup-
ply and check that it is no longer 'live',
e.g. by removing the separate fuse or
by means of a main isolator
Note
In addition to the control circuit, there
may be several power circuits.
Danger
Contact with 'live' components
can lead to severe injuries.
Some components on the
PCBs will remain 'live' even
after the power supply has
been switched off.
Before removing covers from
appliances, wait at least 4
minutes for the power to dissi-
pate.
■ Safeguard the system against unau-
thorised reconnection

!Please note
Electronic assemblies can be
damaged by electrostatic dis-
charges.
Before beginning work, touch
earthed objects, such as heating
or water pipes, to discharge static
loads.
Repair work
!Please note
Repairing components that fulfil a
safety function can compromise
the safe operation of your sys-
tem.
Replace faulty components only
with original Viessmann spare
parts.
Auxiliary components, spare and
wearing parts
!Please note
Spare and wearing parts that
have not been tested together
with the system can compromise
its function. Installing non-author-
ised components and making
non-approved modifications or
conversions can compromise
safety and may invalidate our
warranty.
For replacements, use only orig-
inal spare parts supplied or
approved by Viessmann.

Checking the domestic ventilation system
Danger
The simultaneous operation of
open flue combustion equipment
(e.g. an open fireplace) and the
Vitovent in a space with combus-
tion air interconnection results in
dangerous negative pressure
inside the room. The negative
pressure can result in a return of
flue gases into the room.
■Never operate the Vitovent
simultaneously with open flue
combustion equipment (e.g.
open fireplace).
■ Only operate solid fuel com-
bustion equipment in bal-
anced flue mode with its own
outdoor air and exhaust air
duct.
■ Keep doors to boiler rooms
where the combustion air sup-
ply is not interconnected with
the living space airtight and
shut.
Information regarding the operation
of the Vitovent in conjunction with
open flue combustion equipment
■Always install an interlock system on
site. In the case of negative pressure
inside the room, the interlock system
(e.g. air pressure switch "P4" made by
Erich Huber, www.luftdruck-
waechter.de) must switch off the
Vitovent.
■ The relevant flue gas inspector must
give his approval [check local regula-
tions].
■ The frost stat circuit must be disabled
and frost protection must be safeguar-
ded by an electric preheater bank
(accessory) or by means of a geother-
mal heat exchanger (on site).
!Please note
The simultaneous operation of
extractor hoods or tumble dryers
and the Vitovent in interconnec-
ted rooms results in negative
pressure inside the room.
■Never link extractor hoods and
tumble dryers into the Vitovent
duct system.
■ Set up extractor hoods in the
kitchen either to recirculate air
or to expel the air to the out-
side.
Recommendation: Recirculat-
ing extractors offer a better
energy balance.

We recommend the domestic ventila-
tion system is checked for the follow-
ing characteristics:
■ Clear cross-section of outdoor air
intake and exhaust air discharge.
■ Sizing and routing of ducts according
to the design.
■ Correct appliance siting and fitting of
ducts, silencers, air distribution boxes,
supply and extract air apertures.
■ Correct condensate draining, correct
thermal insulation of ducts in cold
areas.
Note
The duct system can only be cleaned via
the supply air and extract air apertures.
Starting the Vitovent
Plug the Vitovent mains plug into a
standard socket with separate fuse/MCB
protection (230 V/50 Hz).
Setting the language, time and date
The selected language flashes during
commissioning after the Vitovent has
been switched on.
Delivered condition: "Deutsch"

Setting the air flow rate for operating modes
!Please note
Incorrect adjustments can result
in interruption of operations.
Settings must only be made/
changed by a qualified contrac-
tor.
Incorrect operation by system
users will invalidate the war-
ranty.
Setting parameters for air flow rates:
1. Set the rotary program selector to
"MENU".
2. xw for "Service".
3. dto confirm.
4. xw for "Parameter".
5. dto confirm; the first parame-
ter "00" is displayed; the
selected air flow rate for
reduced mode flashes (value
in m3/h).
6. xw to change the value.
or
dfor the next parameter:
"00" Reduced ventilation
"01" Standard ventilation
"02" Higher ventilation
7. dto confirm a selected value.
8. "ESC" to exit the menu after setting
the air flow rates.
Delivered condition:
Vitovent 300 for max. air flow
rate
m3/h 180 300 400
Reduced ventilation m3/h 75 100 100
Standard ventilation m3/h 100 150 200
Higher ventilation m3/h 150 225 300
This setting can be adjusted to meet rel-
evant requirements in accordance with
the system engineering. Consider the
following:
■ The setting for reduced ventilation
must always be at least 10 m3/h lower
than the setting for standard ventila-
tion.
■ The setting for standard ventilation
must always be at least 5 m3/h lower
than the setting for higher ventilation.
Note
The air flow rate of the next higher oper-
ating mode will be selected automatically
if one of these conditions is not met.

Setting ranges (variable):
Vitovent 300 for max. air flow
rate
m3/h 180 300 400
Reduced ventilation m3/h 50 to 170 50 to 290 50 to 390
Standard ventilation m3/h 50 to 175 50 to 295 50 to 395
Higher ventilation m3/h 50 to 180 50 to 300 50 to 400
Note
■ The actual air flow rates that the
Vitovent can achieve are subject to the
pressure drop of the duct system and
that of the filters (filter class).
■ The speed of both fans is automati-
cally adapted to maintain the selected
air flow rate irrespective of the level of
filter contamination.
Duct system (flat) metal: Pre-selecting the supply/extract air
apertures
You will need the following design
details:
■ Pressure drop for the section
■ Air flow rates for the section
These details enable the determination
and pre-selection of the required aper-
ture sizes for the supply air and extract
air apertures using the relevant dia-
grams.
