This guide will take you through the steps necessary to install and configure the back-end server for

3G monitoring of the SVC420GPS and SVC820GPS units.

Pre-requisites

Before you begin you will need the following:

An SVC420GPS/SVC820GPS unit

A monitor attached to the SVC420GPS/SVC820GPS unit

The remote control for the SVC420GPS/SVC820GPS unit

A standard size 3G SIM card*

A dedicated PC/server**

*A standard contract SIM card can be used provided it is aimed more towards data allowance. It is

advised to use a more specialist service such as an M2M contract.

**This PC/server will need to be online 24/7, or at least online during the hours of operation for the

units. The minimum hardware specification is listed below:

Intel Quad-Core or higher

4GB RAM or higher

1TB Hard drive or higher

Windows 7 / Windows Server 2003 or Higher

Server Installation

First you will need to download the latest server software, this can be obtained from the support

section of www.y3k.com or http://www.smartwitness.com.

Once you have downloaded the server installation file you can run it and follow the on screen

commands to get it installed, you will just need to press Next on each screen.

Once the software is installed you will then need to follow some final steps to finish the

configuration of the database.

First click Next on the screen below:

If you require WiFi downloading you can configure it through the second page, shown below. You

can leave the default information in there and come back to it at a later stage for now, alternatively,

if you are not going to use it you can disable it by un-ticking the Enable WiFi Automatically Download

checkbox.

The next step will be to select the port that you will use for the web interface. You will be given

options for 80, 88, 8080 and 8088. You can select any of these provided they are not in use already

by other software or hardware on your network.

The final step is to click on Finish to finalise the process and start the server.

Once this has completed the server software will load up, a browser window with the web login will

also load. You will also have a readme.txt document open up which will contain information on your

server such as login details and port numbers.

The port numbers listed will need to be port forwarded in your router. If you require more

information on setting up port forwarding on your router please see our networking guide in the

support section of our website at http://www.y3k.com.

By default the following ports will need to be opened: 6601 to 6612 and the web port that was

selected on the previous page (i.e. 80, 8080, 8088 or 88).

Once you have the above ports opened correctly, ensure that the Server Manager window is still

open, if it is not you will just need to double click on the CMS Server icon on your desktop.

You will then be able to see the list of server modules running (i.e. login server and gateway server).

Ensure that all of these display as “Running” in the information window next to them.

If these are all running correctly then you can proceed with the next step to set up the server

software.

If any services are not running simply click on them to highlight them and then click on the Start

Service button.

Server Configuration

Once the server software has been installed the next step is to configure the server and add devices.

First, open up a web browser and enter the IP address of the server. If you are on the same network

as the server you can simply enter http://localhost. Please note that if you are using a web port of

anything other than 80 then you will need to enter the port on the end of this. So for example

http://localhost:8080.

Enter the admin username and password, by default these are admin for both. You will also need to

enter a confirmation code. Once done press Login.

You will then be presented with the Home screen for the server. From here you can control certain

aspects of the server.

Add a Client

From the Home screen select Client from the top tab. You can then use the options here to create a

client.

A client is essentially a group that you can assign SVC MDVR units to. If you have multiple clients or

multiple sites you can create these groups here and then assign certain SVC MDVR units to each.

To create a client simple click Add from the Client Management section

You can then add in the client details; the Account field is the username for this client. So for the

example below the username would be client and the password would be 000000.

Add a Device

Once you have created a client you will then need to add an SVC MDVR and assign it to the client.

You will need to give each device a unique 5 digit device number. This is required to add a device to

the server and needs to be different for every unit. So for example, if you have 10 devices you would

give the first the device number of 00001, the second as 00002, the third as 00003 and so on.

From the server Home screen select the Device button from the top tab. You can then click on Add

to begin adding a unit.

You can then enter in the details for the unit, including the 5 digit unique device number into IDNO.

Ensure that you make a note of the device number you are using as you will need enter this

number into the SVC MDVR unit after these steps.
