READ THIS FIRST
Safety precautions
Read this instruction for use fully. Follow all safety precautions
to avoid personal injury or property damage during equipment
operation. SKF cannot be responsible for damage or injury
resulting from unsafe product use, lack of maintenance or incorrect
equipment operation. In case of any uncertainties as regards the
use of the equipment contact SKF.
Failure to comply with the following could cause equipment
damage and personal injury.
• Do ensure that the equipment is only operated by trained
personnel.
• Do wear proper personal protective gear, such as eye
protection and protective gloves, when operating the
equipment.
•
Do inspect the equipment and all accessories carefully before use.
•
Do not use damaged components or modify the equipment.
• Do use clean recommended hydraulic oils (SKF LHMF 300,
LHDF 900 or similar).
• Do not use glycerin or water based fluids as a pressure
medium. Premature equipment wear or damage can result.
• Do not use the equipment above the stated maximum
hydraulic pressure.
• Do not extend the handle in order to reduce the required
force to reach maximum pressure. Use hand pressure only.
• Do not use the injector with accessories, which are rated
below the maximum working pressure of the injector.
• Do not use washers on sealing surfaces.
• Do use a pressure gauge to monitor the oil outlet pressure,
wherever possible.
• Do ensure that all the air has been removed from the
hydraulic system before pressurising the hydraulic system.
• Do prevent the workpiece (e.g. bearing, gearwheel or similar
item) from being forcibly ejected upon sudden release of
pressure (e.g. by use of retaining nut).
• Do not handle high pressure pipes. Oil under pressure can
penetrate the skin, causing serious injury. If oil is injected
under the skin, seek medical attention immediately.
• Do not use damaged high pressure pipes. Avoid sharp bends
and kinks when connecting pipes. Sharp bends and kinks
will internally damage the pipe leading to premature failure.
Applying pressure to a damaged pipe may cause it to rupture.
• Do not lift the equipment by the pipe or couplings.
• Do follow local safety regulations.
• Do service the equipment by a qualified hydraulic technician
or SKF Repair Centre.
•
Do replace worn or damaged parts with genuine SKF parts.

SKF 226400
1. Description
The 226400 has a maximum pressure of 300 MPa (43 500 psi) and
delivers a volume per stroke of 0,23 cm3 (0.014 in3). The oil injector
has a most varied usage when applying the SKF oil injection method.
Mounting and dismounting bearings, couplings and gearwheels are only
a few examples. The injector is supplied complete with repair kit 728383.
Everything is packed in a sturdy case.
2. Technical data
Maximum pressure 300 MPa (43 500 psi)
Volume per stroke 0,23 cm3 (0.014 in3)
Oil container capacity 200 cm3 (12.2 in3)
Oil outlet G 3/4, external thread
Min. oil viscosity 300 mm2/s at operating temperature
Weight 2,2 kg (4.8 lb)
Designation 226400
Note: For applications where 400 MPa (58 000 psi) is required a special
model designation 226400/400 MPa is available.

3. Operating instructions
a) When the oil container (8) is to be charged, the nozzle is immersed
in oil and the piston retracted using the handle. The nozzle is then
pointed upwards and the valve ball retaining the oil depressed
slightly to permit any air to escape. The oil container can be refilled
without releasing the hydraulic pressure. For mounting bearings with
the SKF Oil Injection Method, or by means of an hydraulic nut, it is
recommended to use an oil with a viscosity of approximately
300 mm2/s at the operating temperature. For dismounting bearings,
we recommend to use an oil with a viscosity of approx 900 mm2/s at
operating temperature.
b) The injector has to be firmly screwed into the application.
c) Open the release valve (6) and screw the full oil container in position.
The oil container should be screwed lightly to the injector. Too much
force may break the filter nipple.
d) Make a few strokes with the lever until clean oil, free of air bubbles,
issues between the injector body and the forked lever. The release
valve is then tightened.
e) Continue pumping until necessary pressure is reached for your
application. Maximum pressure is 300 MPa (43 500 psi).
f ) Open the release valve, allowing superfluous oil to escape freely.
Unscrew the oil container a few turns. This will prevent oil to escape
from the container.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Replacing the oil
When replacing the oil or after maintenance, make sure no air is trapped
in the hydraulic system. This should be checked before pressurizing the
injector. Only use clean, recommended hydraulic oils. Do not mix fluids or
oils of different brands
4.2 Oil cleanliness and leakage
Dirt and metal particles in the oil can cause wear of the piston mating
surfaces, leading to excessive oil leakage and irreparable damage to the
oil injector.
The recommended oil cleanliness level should be meet or exceed
ISO 4406:1999 20/18/15.
Using fluids, other than oils or SKF mounting and dismounting fluids, can
cause corrosion and/or damage to the piston mating surfaces.
A small amount of oil leakage between the piston mating surfaces is
expected at high oil pressures. This small leakage helps ensure that the
piston is kept lubricated.
