1.0 Introduction
1.1 Scope of this Manual
This manual covers the operation of the Dock Shelter after it has been installed and
commissioned.
Do not attempt to install or commission a Dock Shelter unless you have been trained and
authorised by Safetech.
1.2 Disclaimer

1.4 Owner’s Responsibility
To ensure both your safety and the safety of others, and the continued effective operation of your
Safetech Dock Shelter, your responsibilities are as follows:
• Before operating the Dock Shelter, please read and ensure you understand both the
safety instructions and the operating instructions.
• If you do not fully understand these instructions, contact either Safetech or an
authorised Safetech agent for clarification before operating your Dock Shelter
• The Owner must review the Risk Assessment in this manual.
• Please Note: That in the Risk Assessment a number of items have been flagged as
Completed? = No. The Owner must include these hazards in their own operational risk
assessment and ensure that action is taken to address the hazard.
• The owner is responsible to ensure all operators have been adequately trained on the
safe operation of the Dock Shelter.
• The owner is responsible to ensure that a risk assessment on the Dock Shelter in their
operating environment is done.

1.5 Features
1. For applications where the entire trailer door opening must be unobstructed.
2. Inflatable Dock Shelters are designed to deflate when not in use, thus limiting any
damage should vehicles reverse off center.
3. Containing a 415 volt 3 phase or 240 volt single-phase motor in its overhead canopy –
air is pumped into each section of seal and fully inflated within seconds via 2 position or
push button control, creating a seal around the sides and roof of vehicle reversed into
dock face.
4. Uniquely developed fabric allows the seal to actually breath and inflate to a certain
pressure to eliminate over expansion which could cause damage.

2.0 Safety
Safetech has provided the following Important Safety Reminders specifically for users.
Following these under the heading of Safety Update Information is further specific information
compiled through our ongoing commitment to improving the management of safe operating
procedures which are also applicable for the installers of Safetech Dock shelters.
Important Safety Reminders:
1. Improper operation of this dock shelter may result in serious personal injury. Do not
operate unless you have been properly trained and have read, and understand both the
safety & operating instructions.
2. Do not operate the dock shelter unless you have been properly trained and have read,
and understand the safety and operating instructions.
3. Ensure that the control device is positioned so that the operator has a clear view of the
dock shelter when operating the controls.
4. Ensure personnel are clear of the dock shelter when the dock shelter is operating.
5. DO NOT use a damaged or malfunctioning dock shelter.
6. Check that there are no entrapment risks or obstructions with machinery, equipment or
fixed objects adjacent to, under or over the dock shelter.
7. Maintenance and service on this dock shelter must only be carried out by a person who
has been trained & accredited by Safetech. Please contact Safetech for service work or
training.
8. Maintenance and service on the dock shelter must be done at regular intervals to
ensure trouble free and safe operation. For high cycle or heavy load environments,
service should be done every three (3) months. For medium or low cycle environments,
service should be done every six (6) months.
9. DO NOT modify, dismantle or dispose of the dock shelter unless you have been trained
and authorised to do so.
2.1 Potential Shear / Crush Injury Zones:
2.1.1 Maintenance/Repair - Potential Injuries
• Inadvertent operation during ANY maintenance or repair activity on a dock shelter could
cause injury.
• To prevent this from occurring, the person performing any maintenance/repair activity is
to lock out/ tag out until the activity is completed
2.1.2 Dock Shelter Operation - Pre-operation Check
To prevent the possibility of any injury occurring during any phase of operation of installation on the
dock shelter - the Operator is to ensure BEFORE any operation commences that no person has
any part of their body within any potential injury zone and to maintain extreme vigilance during
operation to ensure no person places any part of their body in these zones.

3.0 Operating Instructions
Before operating the Dock Shelter, please read &
ensure you understand both the safety instructions &
the operating instructions applicable to your unit.
If you do not fully understand these instructions,
contact either or an authorised agent for clarification
before operating your dock shelter.
3.1 Pre-Operating Checks
1. Check that power supply is ON.
2. Ensure that there are no obstructions to dock shelter.
3.2 Operating Sequence
Important: - Stand Clear When Operating Unit
1. Truck backs up to dock until reaching dock bumpers.
2. Turn selector switch to ON position to inflate the dock shelter.
3. Operate dock leveller according the dock leveller operating instructions.
4. Upon completion of loading/unloading of the truck, turn selector switch to OFF position
to deflate the dock shelter.
5. Wait approximately 20 to 30 seconds for dock shelter to fully deflate.
6. Truck is now safe to drive away.

4.0 Maintenance
4.1 Maintenance & Repair Personnel:
Safetech Equipment should be serviced and maintained by a qualified a Safetech representative. If
you require servicing you can entering into a service agreement with Safetech. Please click on the

If this is not possible, then the Owner must:
• Develop & implement a preventive maintenance plan for the unit.
• Create a competency based training program for servicing the unit.
• Train & authorise personnel on the safe & correct service of the unit.
• Permit only suitably trained & skilled personnel to service the unit.
4.2 Planned Maintenance:
To prolong the operational life and ensure the safe operation of your Dock Shelter we recommend
regular planned maintenance by Safetech or a Safetech authorised agent.
For high cycle or heavy load environments, service should be done every three (3) months. For
medium or low cycle environments, service should be done every six (6) months.
Please contact either Safetech or a Safetech authorised agent to discuss your maintenance
requirements.
