The harmonized standards (or parts of these standards) that follow are applicable:
NEN-EN-ISO 12100:2010 | NEN-EN-IEC 60204-1 |
NEN 82079-1 (62079: 2001) | NEN5509 | ISO 3864-2
Make sure that this product is only put into operaon if the system (in which it will be installed)
complies with the requirements of the applicable standards and guidelines.
1.2 Approved personnel
This product manual contains important informaon for installers about the installaon and
commissioning of a RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor. Read this product manual and instrucons rst before the
work starts. Approved mechanical and/or electrical installers, with professional competence, must
do all work safe and responsible.
1.3 Warning about discouraged use
The condions that follow are applicable when the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor is used:
• Do not change the construcon of the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ
• It is not permied to use the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ to li or move people
• Do not let the torque of the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ be more than its maximum
• Do not let the duty cycle of the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ be more than its maximum.
Refer to §3.2 for a descripon of the intended use of the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor.
1.4 Warranty provisions
For the warranty period and condions refer to the ‘Condions’ secon on our website at www.
ridder.com, or in the Ridder catalogue.
2. SYMBOLS, WARNINGS AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

2.2 Precauons and safety instrucons
Precauons
A roller-screen system can be dangerous. The correct safety precauons are important (safety
barriers, persons cannot touch the winding tube).
• If these precauons cannot be obeyed, then use warnings.
• The responsibility for precauons and warnings lies with the installer of the roller-screen system.
Refer to the, local or naonal, laws and regulaons of the country if a CE cercaon (to show
the safety is made sure) is necessary.
• Parts of the electrical or electronic installaons are connected to dangerous electrical voltages.
Work without professional competence or not obeyed warning instrucons could cause injury
and/or material damage.
• Ridder is not responsible for injury, material damage or consequenal damage if accessories that
Ridder did not make are used.
Safety instrucons
• Do not let persons and not approved personnel be near controls and roller-screen systems which
are in operaon.
• Damaged systems must be stopped immediately unl they are repaired.
• Do not operate roller-screen systems when persons are in the danger zone and can touch the
roller screen.
• Monitor the danger zone when you work with or near the roller screen.
• Stop and de-energize roller-screen systems during maintenance and cleaning work to or near the
system.
• Make sure that there is sucient space between parts that move and adjacent objects.
• Stay away from or safety areas where there is a risk to become caught in the system (tube-motor
guiding, roller screen).
• The torque and the duty cycle of the system must be in the range of the tube motor parameters.
Refer to §3.4/§3.5.
• Use safety barriers, for system parts that move, to a height of 2.5 m from the ground.
• Safety distances must agree with ISO 13857:2008.
May result in minor injury if the hazard is not avoided.
Signicant injury, possible death, if the hazard is not avoided.
Severe injury and possible death if the hazard is not avoided.
If you do not obey the safety instrucons that follow it can be
dangerous and cause injury.

2.3 Residual risks
Automated controls
The Ridder RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motors are generally used in automac controlled roller-screen systems.
Persons who do work or stay near the roller-screen system must know about that. If persons or their
cloths touch the roller-screen system when it winds up, it could have serious consequences.
Torque guard
The RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor has a torque guard. The funcon is to minimize the risk of injury to
persons, damage to the system or damage to the tube motor. Because of the forces in the systems
(in which the tube motor is installed), Ridder cannot be sure that there will be no injury to persons
or damage to the system.

3. PRODUCT DETAILS
3.1 Descripon
The Ridder RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor is built-in to a 50 mm aluminium tube (wall thickness 1.5 mm) and
suitable for use with 50 mm winding tubes. Because it is built-in it is possible to wind around the full
width of the tube motor.
The RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor is supplied with a 1-phase 2 core asynchronous electric motor for a mains
voltage of 230 V at 50 Hz, an integrated brake and a lubricated gear system. When the tube motor
operates with undervoltage the braking funcon stays good unl a minimum of 190 V. The tube
motor has a thermal protecon system. This prevents the burn-out of the drive if the electric motor
becomes too hot.
The RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor is almost enrely water resistant. The protecon classicaon of IP55
makes sure that a damp environment has no eect on the tube motor.
The RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor has an electronic limit-switch system, with a range of 38 revoluons, that
counts pulses. These counted pulses are used to stop the tube motor at the end posions and in
case of an overload. It is possible to set end posions with an adjusng set. The electronic limit-
switch system also makes parallel connecon of tube motors possible.
Together with the Ridder guiding unit and a guiding prole, the tube motor can be installed on the
two sides of a roller screen.

3.2 Applicaon
The Ridder RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motors are designed to be used with roller-screen systems in
greenhouses and livestock houses. For other (dierent) applicaons approval from Ridder Drive
Systems is necessary.
Components RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motors
To operate the roller-screen system more components are necessary to complete the drive
system. The illustraon and table that follow show an overview of the Ridder components that are
applicable to the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube motor.

4.2 Installaon - Condions and starng points
Ridder components
• The starng point is that only Ridder components are used.
Roller-screen system
• The starng point is a side-wall roller-screen in a greenhouse. The roller screen is installed on
a side wall between the purlins. For dierent installaons, systems, greenhouses and building
structures this product manual does not give full informaon.
Standard installaon (tube motor 550032/550039)
• The starng point is the standard installaon of a tube motor 550032 or 550039.
For dierent installaons refer to “ALTERNATIVES”.
• The guiding unit (550500) is for the standard VK10 journal.
• The tube of the 550039 tube motor has an extension of 74 mm. This makes the RB50Eᵖˡᵘˢ tube
motor interchangeable with the RB50 tube motor.
Installaon side of the roller screen
• The installaon is possible on the two sides of the roller screen (20).
If installaon on the other side of the roller screen (20) is necessary:
• Turn the assembly 180° around the longitudinal axis of the post (B).
Note: In §4.3 thru §4.7 each me the same installaon side is shown.

4.2.1VK10 (standard installaon)
4.2.2
Put the cable-carrier bracket (8) and tube motor (1) in the correct
posion for the related installaon side of the roller screen.
REFER TO §4.4/4.5. This prevents more subsequent work.
