Safety Advice
OptiVizor and OptiVizor W are products supporting life and health!
This manual must be carefully read, understood and followed by all individuals who
have or will have the responsibility for selecting, using, servicing or maintaining this
product.
This manual contains instructions for the optimal use of the product as well as
important safety information.
Before use, the acting persons have to decide in accordance with this manual,
whether the product is suitable for the intended application.
Liability Information
The liability of MSA is excluded if the product is not used appropriately and for the
intended purpose. Choice and use are in the sole responsibility of the acting persons.
Warranties also as guarantees made by MSA with respect to the product are voided,
if it is not used, serviced or maintained in accordance with the instructions in this
manual.
The above corresponds to the terms and conditions of sale regarding the warranty
and liability of MSA. It does not alter them.
Maintenance Advice
This product must be inspected and maintained in regular intervals. For service and
repairs only original MSA spares must be used. Modifications to the product or
components thereof are not permissible and violate the approvals.
The liability of MSA extends exclusively to service and maintenance made by MSA.
Visors are designed for use only in conjunction with the OptimAir 3000 blower unit.
These instructions must be read in conjunction with the OptimAir blower and tester
instructions.

1. General Information
OptiVizor
The lens conforms to EN 166:1995 and is only suitable for the uses marked on it (see
table 1).
OptiVizor W
The welding screen assembly meets the requirements of EN 175 for basic use, when
fitted to the OptiVizor.
In addition to providing the 'basic' level of protection, it will also afford additional
protection properties if marked as follows:
-S Increased robustness
-9 Molten Metals and hot solids
-F Low energy impact
-B Medium energy impact
W Water immersion
The welding visor assembly is suitable for use with welding lenses up to and including
Shade 16 filtration rating (EN 169). A cover lens should be fitted at all times. Toughened
mineral filter oculars should only be used in conjunction with a suitable backing ocular.
Note:
Where components with different markings are assembled together the protection of
the combination shall be of the lower constituent part.
1.1 Applications
Visors are designed for use by competent personnel familiar with workplace hazards
and only in conjunction with the OptimAir 3000 blower unit.
Type and concentration of the hazard in the ambient atmosphere must be known to
the extent that use of a filtering device is permissible and appropriate selection of
the class of device and filter type is made.
Protection will only be obtained if the visors are used correctly.
1.2 Limitations/Warnings
Protection levels may be reduced if wind speed exceeds 2 meters per second.
Protection will only be obtained if the unit is fitted correctly; hair, spectacle side
arms etc. must not intrude into the face seal.
At very high work rates pressure in the device may become negative at peak inhalation
flow.
Warning!
Do not use in atmospheres with modified oxygen content [permissible range
19 - 23% see also local regulations].
Filtering devices must not be used in confined spaces (containers, canals, pits, etc.).
2. Pre-use
Prior to first use the head harness must be adjusted to fit by adjusting the crown strap so
that the headband lies across the forehead. Adjust the headband tension by pressing in
and turning the adjuster knob to achieve a secure fit. The suspension size can be

adjusted between sizes 52 and 64 by turning the knob. Adjust the tension screws at
either side so that the visor will stay in the up position.
Warning:
Do not use the equipment if the head cap or air hose is damaged, check for cracks
splits and tears, which will cause leakage.
3. Use
3.1 Donning
The hose connection made (see sketches) with the correct orientation between
the hose and blower unit.
Don the OptiVizor only with the OptimAir 3000 switched on!
Pull the visor down over the face and arrange the elastic face seal under the chin.
If necessary adjust for a comfortable gapless fit between the face and the hood, it
must be ensured that the elasticated edge of the hood fits snugly against the skin
particularly down the sides of the face adjacent to the ears.
Arrange the breathing tube so that it trails freely down the back and is not kinked or
looped and cannot be inadvertently pinched.
3.2 Doffing
After use do not switch off the OptimAir 3000 and do not remove the visor until clear of
the hazard zone. Remove the visor, switch off the OptimAir 3000 and disconnect hose.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
The OptiVizor should be cleaned with mild soap (no detergents) in lukewarm water
or approved sanitizer and rinsed thoroughly in clean water.
Use only soft clean cloths to polish the visor. Avoid scratching the visor.
Only the outside of the hose should be cleaned. Ambient air-dry only.
Attention:
Any damaged components should be replaced.
4.2 Maintenance
The welding screen's useful life is affected by heat, cold, chemicals and sunlight.
Examine the visor carrier daily for cracks, brittleness, breakage, craze pattern,
discoloration or chalky appearance. Any of the above could indicate a loss of impact
resistance and the component should be replaced.
A welding screen is available as an accessory. To fit simply remove the side position
tensioning screws and replace with the washers and knobs found in the welding visor kit
(see sketches).
4.3 Storage
Always store in a cool and dark place, in the original packaging. Avoid distortion of
components during storage.

6. Approvals and Markings
OptimAir 3000 blower and tester in combination with OptiVizor
and OptiVizor W provide protection to EN 12941 TH2.
All visors approved to EN 12941, as marked, via notified body
BIA CE 0121.
Visor approved to EN 166 and EN 175, as marked, via notified
body 1024.
