Product Description
Product Description
Intended Use
The YRB02-X is an external rechargeable explosion-
protected (Ex) battery pack and is used to power Minebea
Intec equipment in hazardous areas or locations without
AC power (see the list under item (15) on the EC-type
examination certificate and also the instruction manual of
the particular instrument for more information).
The equipment meets the requirements for Group II and
Category 1D and 2G equipment in accordance with the
ATEX and can therefore be used in Zone 1, 2, 20, 21 and
22 hazardous areas. Use in the presence of potentially
explosive gases of group IIC and temperature class T4 is
permissible. The maximum surface temperature
(for dust protection) is 80°C.
In the temperature range of –20°C to +40°C, the external
rechargeable Ex battery pack can also be used outside
buildings.
Conceptual Design
The external rechargeable Ex battery pack consists of two
12 V rechargeable batteries that are wired
in series and are connected to an electronics box by cables.
The outer housing of this Ex battery pack features a mem-
brane switch with an ON key and an OFF key and two
LEDs. The intrinsically safe cable for connecting the bat-
tery pack to an intrinsically safe scale is routed to the out-
side of the
electronics box.

Product Description
Housing Protection Rating
The electronic box and the rechargeable batteries meet
IP65 protection rating requirements in
accordance with EN60529 if the output cable is con-
nected and its charging plug is secured with
the threaded sealing cap. The IP23-protected
outer housing is designed to allow gases to escape
from the batteries and through the housing in
a controlled manner.
Dimensions and Weight
Footprint: 180 mm+180 mm; height: 125 mm (includ-
ing rubber feet and without handle);
approx. 8 kg
Charger Specification
Use only the YRB02LD battery charger (Type
FW7305/24A) to recharge the external rechargeable Ex
battery pack. Maximum power consumption:
36 W, IP30 protection rating.

Product Description Warning and Safety Information
Warning and Safety
Information
Improper use or handling can result in property damage
and/or personal injury. Read these operating instructions
thoroughly before using your external rechargeable Ex
battery pack and keep them in a safe place. Make sure all
operating personnel are trained to recognize malfunc-
tions and to take the appropriate corrective or preventive
measures.
Follow the instructions below to ensure safe and trouble-
free operation of your YRB02-X external rechargeable Ex
battery pack:
– Connect the external rechargeable Ex battery
pack YRB02-X only to Minebea Intec equipment that is
appropriate for use with the unit (see the list under item
(15) on the EC-type examination certificate
and also the instruction manual of the particular instru-
ment for more information).
– Allowable ambient operating temperature:
–20°C to +40°C
– Avoid the build-up of static electricity. The Ex
battery pack housing is connected via the shield
of the connecting cable to the grounded housing
of the equipment attached to the battery.
– Handle the equipment with care as required by the IP
protection ratings (IP65/IP23)
– Follow the cleaning instructions included with the equip-
ment.
– Do not open the external rechargeable Ex battery pack
in hazardous areas/locations! The threaded sealing cap
must always be securely fastened over the electronics box
input for the charging connector when the equipment is
used in hazardous areas/locations.
– Avoid deep discharging (the red LED will start
flashing).
– The external rechargeable Ex battery pack must
be dusted off regularly when used in hazardous areas
with potentially explosive dust atmospheres.
In Zone 20, for example, a maximum dust layer
of only 5 mm is permissible.

Warning and Safety Information Warning and Safety Information
– The external rechargeable Ex battery pack must be
installed so that the handle faces upwards and the
rubber feet provide enough space between the base
and the surface on which the external rechargeable
Ex battery pack stands (for ventilation). The exter-
nal rechargeable Ex-battery must be freestanding
to ensure that air can circulate and heat can escape.
– Avoid exposing the external rechargeable Ex battery
pack to direct sunlight or other heat sources.
– The external rechargeable Ex battery pack may also
be used outside buildings. Take the appropriate
measures for grounding and protecting the equip-
ment against heat and cold.
– Use only original Minebea Intec spare parts. This
includes the special rechargeable batteries with spe-
cially potted connections inside the equipment.
– Use only original Minebea Intec accessories.
– Use only cabling and extensions approved by
Minebea Intec .
– The connecting cable is made of PVC. All cables
used inside have a rubber casing. The gasket on the
electronics box is made of polyethylene foam.
Silicone rubber is used for all potting (encapsula-
tion). The batteries consist of ABS plastic. Chemi-
cals that corrode these materials must be kept away
from them.
– Have the external rechargeable Ex battery pack
inspected at appropriate intervals for correct
functioning and safety by a trained technician;
for instance: check for damage to the connecting
cable and for dust build-up inside the Ex battery
pack, particularly on the valves.
– Observe your country’s national laws and regula-
tions. Ask your local Minebea Intec office or dealer
for information on the legal regulations applicable
in your country.
– Any work on the equipment may be carried out
only by trained and authorized Minebea Intec ser-
vice technicians. Any tampering will result in forfei-
ture of the approval for use in the stated hazardous
area/location and of all claims under the manu-
facturer’s warranty.

Warning and Safety Information
Notes on Storing the Battery Pack
– Store only completely charged Ex battery packs.
– Storage temperature range: –40°C to +50°C
(-40°F to +122°F)
– If the external rechargeable Ex battery pack
is stored at a higher temperature, it must be
recharged before 2 years have elapsed; e.g.:
At 30°C: recharge after 12 months
At 40°C: recharge after 6 months
Charging the Ex Battery Pack
The external rechargeable Ex battery pack must be
charged outside the hazardous area, using only the
YRB02LD battery charger.
§Before using the battery pack for the first time,
charge it for 8 hours.
$Recharge the battery pack after each use, regardless
of the amount of charge used.
– The battery pack must be charged in a dry environ-
ment at an ambient temperature of 15°C to 30°C
(59°F to 86°F).
– In the hazardous area, the battery charger con-
nector port must be sealed at all times with the
threaded cap provided.
Prior to Initial Operation
Read these instructions carefully before putting
the equipment into operation for the first time.
They contain information on using the Ex bat-
tery pack safely and extending its service life. Keep
these instructions in a safe place.

Getting Started Getting Started
Getting Started
Unpacking the Unit and Equipment Supplied
Remove all components from the packaging and
ensure that they are complete:
(Battery charger and power cord are accessories and
must be ordered separately). If you dispose of the
packaging material, please do so in accordance with
the national regulations in your country or retain all
the packaging material in case you need to ship the
equipment to your local Minebea Intec office or deal-
er for service reasons.
Function Test
The level of charge in the battery when it is first
removed from the packaging is not precisely defined.
However, the capacity is sufficient for
an initial function test. Press the ON key. After approx.
1 min the green LED will start flashing.
Charging the Battery Pack
Once the function test has been completed, charge the
external rechargeable Ex battery pack using
the YRB02LD battery charger for at least 8 h before
starting up operations.
For the battery charger, please observe the
following:
– Use the charger only in a dry environment.
– Only charge the battery pack in an area with
sufficient ventilation.
!Always disconnect the battery pack and charger from
AC power when you are not using them or
for cleaning or maintenance purposes.
!Do not pull on the cord to remove the plug from
the outlet.
– Protect the equipment from grease, oil, aggressive
cleaning agents and solvents, and mechanical stress.
!If there is visible damage to the housing or cord,
or if the unit no longer functions properly:
– Disconnect the unit from AC power.
– Lock it in a safe place to prevent it from being used for
the time being.
– Only trained and authorized Minebea Intec service
technicians should carry out safety tests on the unit.
