1. Inspec he hreader before use. Replace dies or any o her par ha shows damage or wear. To ensure a high quali y hread, only use
MGF
MGF Tools replacemen dies.
WARNING Worn dies can resul in poor hread quali y and high handle forces
2. Moun he pipe firmly in a pipe vise. When hreading an exis ing pipe, make sure i is secure and will no move. Cu he end of he pipe
cleanly and squarely using a pipe cu er (look for he "Hand Tools" sec ion on www.mgf ools.com).
WARNING When working on a scaffold or lif , he opera or should be properly secured o preven injury in he even of a fall.
3. Ream he end of he pipe o remove any burrs ha may have been produced during he cu ing of he pipe
4. Selec he correc die head for he size and ype of pipe o be hreaded and he hread form you require. Inser die head in o he ra che .
Slip he pipe guide a he rear of he hreader over he pipe and gen ly apply pressure o he fron of he die head a he same ime
moving he handle down in order o s ar he hreader.
WARNING Make sure he handle is clean and free from oil and grease. This allows for be er con rol of he ool.
5. Before applying force o he handle, ensure ha he ra che pawl is engaged.
WARNING Pawl may fail o engage if pushed agains he side of he die head. Specific care should be aken when hreading pipe ha is
ver ical.
6. When hand hreading, your weigh should be above he handle ensuring maximum leverage. If possible, do no do all he work wi h your
arms, use your weigh . Do no overreach. Keep proper foo ing and balance o main ain be er con rol.
WARNING Do no slide a pipe or “chea er” over he handle o gain ex ra leverage. This prac ice can resul in serious injury
7. Apply a generous quan i y of MGF
MGF Tools Thread Cu ing Oil when hreading (see sec ion "Accessories and Spare Par s"). Use of a
lubrica ing oil or a poor hread cu ing oil can resul in a poor quali y cu hread, leaky join s, shor die life and high handle forces.
8. S op hreading when he end of he dies are flush wi h he end of he pipe. A his poin , he correc size has been reached o produce
he proper join . To con inue beyond his poin would make a s raigh or running hread.
9. When he hread is comple e, back off he die head by reversing he ra che mechanism and urning he die head in he opposi e
direc ion. When he dies are nearly removed from he hread, main ain close con rol of he hreader so ha he hreads are no damaged
when removing he die head.
NOTE! Clean any oil spill or spla er ha is on he ground. A he end of each job, always clean your hreader and s ore in a clean dry area o
pro ec agains damage (see sec ion “”S orage).
