3. Operating the machine
3.1 Starting o
Before starting work with the belt sander, check
the following:
• If the machine has not been used for a longer
period, check that all parts are mounted and
attached correctly, and that all screws are tight.
Inspect the machine for damage to ensure that it
will function faultlessly.
• Insert the lower part of the drum raising mech-
anism into the upper part. Next, put the support
tubes together and tighten the setscrew.
• Attach the dust bag to the suction tube.
• Using the wheel adjustment aid, check that
the clearance between the oor and each of the
machine’s two wheels is the same. If it is not the
same, adjust as necessary in order to achieve the
best sanding result (see section 3.2.3).
• Check that the belt sander’s power cables are
in good order and free of damage. Only once
these steps have been completed should you
connect the machine to a power source!
• In extremely cold environments, the motor
may have diculty starting. In this case, slacken
the V-belt by turning the tensioning bolt under-
neath the motor.
• While sanding, do not leave the power cable ly-
ing on the oor so as to avoid running over it with
the machine.
• Keep your hand on the machine’s grip at all
times when the motor is running.
2.3 Operating safety tips
• Only use the machine once it is fully assem-
bled.
• Make sure that all protective mechanisms and
covers are in place and rmly attached.
• This belt sander should be used only by trained
professionals who have read and understood
these instructions regarding use and mainte-
nance, are familiar with the machine and have
received on-site instruction.
• Operation of the belt sander is permissible
only if special safety precautions are taken.
When using the machine, you must wear gloves,
safety goggles, ear protection, and protective
clothing as well as a breathing mask.
• Keep your hands, hair, feet and any loose cloth-
ing a good distance away from the machine’s
moving parts.
• When taking breaks or making repairs to the
machine, switch it o and disconnect it from the
power supply.
• While working with the belt sander, do not
touch any metal objects such as radiators, rail-
ings, etc.
• Do not take out the dust bag while the motor
is running.
• Use the machine solely for treating dry, at
oor surfaces. The belt sander is not suitable for
sanding furniture, stairs, etc. Do not under any
circumstances use the machine on metal objects
– this is an acute re hazard!
• When raising or lowering the drum, do so at
a steady pace to avoid damaging the oor, and
only while the machine is running.
• The dust bag must be emptied when it is half-
full, or whenever you have nished working with
the machine. Keep the dust bag well away from
sources of re or sparks.
• During breaks from work, do not leave the
dust bag lying around unsupervised. Doing so
presents the danger of res and explosions.
• Sanding dust should be stored in a re-proof
metal container.
3.2.5 Sanding parquet
Sanding parquet generally involves three passes:
Pass 1: Rough sanding with grit 24 or 36 abrasive,
diagonal (30°) sanding pattern, full pressure.
Pass 2: Intermediate sanding with grit 40 to 80
abrasive, diagonal sanding pattern perpendicu-
lar to the rst, full pressure.
Pass 3: Finish with grit 100 or 120 abrasive, sand-
ing pattern parallel to incidence of light, reduced
pressure for ner surface appearance.
3.2.6 Adjusting the sanding belt
After the sanding belt has been changed, it may
require alignment so that it runs straight on the
upper drum. To achieve this, use the included
wrench to turn the M8 adjusting bolt. By turning
the adjusting bolt to the right or left, you should
be able to adjust the line of the sanding belt to
be perfectly straight.
3.2 Operating the machine
3.2.1 Changing the sanding belt
Make sure that the machine is not connected to
a power supply. Open the cover plate on the side
of the drum unit. Make sure the lower drum is
lifted clear of the oor.
To loosen the sanding belt, push the belt tension-
ing lever forwards. This causes the upper drum
to move towards the lower drum, allowing you to
slip the sanding belt o.
Replace it with a new sanding belt. Pull the ten-
sioning lever back to raise the upper drum again
and tauten the belt. Now close the cover plate
once more.
3.2.2 Adjusting the sanding pressure
The adjuster for the sanding pressure is located
on the lower part of the machine. Turn this wheel
anticlockwise to increase the pressure that the
drum exerts on the oor; turn it clockwise to
reduce the pressure.
3.2.3 Adjusting the wheels
To adjust the front wheels, carefully lay the belt
sander down on the ground.
Set the wheel adjustment aid against the bottom
of the machine and use the screw to measure
the wheel clearance. Remove the wheel adjust-
ment aid carefully without moving the screw.
Now set it against the other wheel. If there is a
gap between the wheel and the screw, then the
wheels are incorrectly adjusted and do not have
the same clearance.
To adjust the wheel correctly, loosen the nut
that xes the wheel to the chassis. Now you can
adjust the wheel so that the screw of the wheel
adjustment aid touches the wheel. When you are
nished, tighten the nut once more.
3.2.4 Sanding near edges and walls
The side of the machine’s housing features a
spacer piece to prevent scratches to walls and
baseboards. You can adjust the distance to the
wall by loosening or tightening its screws. This
distance must be greater than 8 mm, however.
