INTRODUCTION
1.1 OVERVIEW
Luminator Technology Group’s RR-GPS18x is a hardware accessory for RoadRunner Recorders. The RR-
GPS18x software enables connecting the Recorder to the GPS unit and utilizing all of the features of the GPS
unit. This firmware update will optimize the unit’s performance and ensure all functions are working as
intended.
COMPONENTS
To install the software, the following items are required in addition to the RR-GPS18x device.
1. GPS serial RS232 connector
2. USB to 9-pin serial cable (Link to recommend adapter)
3. 12V Power Supply
Note: A terminal block (remove banana clips) may be placed on the rear of the MRH Recorder to power the
serial connector if a 12V power supply is unavailable.
4. PC with Windows 7 or later
5. Reliable GPS signal for verification

3.1 CONNECTING THE DEVICE
1. Disconnect the serial connection for the GPS from the back of the Recorder to connect to the USB adapter
2. Connect it to the RS232C port on the rear of the recorder (Figure 2).
3. A desktop computer and power supply (Figure 3) can be used while performing the upgrade out of a vehicle
4. To keep the GPS connected to the power from the Recorder in a vehicle (Figure 4) a laptop can be used.

3.2 INSTALLING THE FIRMWARE
3.2.1 DOWNLOAD
1. Download the Firmware zip file from www.luminator.com (registration required)
2. Under the SERVICE menu, choose ACCESS SECURE CONTENT and sign in or request
an account.
3. After signing in, click DOWNLOAD CENTER under the SERVICE tab
4. Click the first heading, FIRMWARE DOWNLOADS, ON-BOARD VIDEO SECURITY
SYSTEMS and
5. Download the RR-GPS18x zip file under the GPS Firmware heading

3.2.2 INSTALL
1. After the file has downloaded, double click to open the file
2. Copy the Garmin folder

3. Right click on your desktop and select Paste

4. The contents of the folder are shown in Figure 7:

5. Right click on the Start menu button and select Device Manager, and locate the COM number of the Port in
the serial device you will be connecting to in the Windows Device Manager.

6. The Device Manger screen will load. Click on the arrow to expand the Ports section

Note: If you are experiencing issues locating the USB To SERIAL under PORTs (COM & LPT) you may need to
download these drivers from the adapter’s manufacturer. After completion of the driver installation reboot
the PC and proceed.

7. When using a laptop, the COM port may be higher than what is allowed on the SNRSXCFG_330.exe
program (Up to COM12). To change this, right click in device manager where the device is located, in the
menu click Properties.

8. Go to the Port Settings tab

9. Click on the Advanced button

10. Select the COM port and click OK

11. To ensure the program runs correct you need to run the SNRSRXCFG_330.exe in Windows 8 compatibility
mode. Right click on Application SNRSRXCFG_330.exe and select Properties. Then go to the Compatibility
tab. Check the box for Compatibility mode. Have this set to Windows 8. Next, check the box to Run this
program as an administrator. Then click OK.

12. Launch the SNSRXCFG_330.exe program and Select GPS 18x PV/LVC.
