1. Introduction
The KF-C16 PCMCIA Dual-speed Ethernet adapter is credit-card
sized adapter that provides an interface between a PCMCIA-ca-
pable computer and a network. The network can be an Ethernet net-
workoraFastEthernetnetwork.TheadaptercomplieswithPCMCIA
v2.x standard and can be used in computers having PCMCIA Type
II or Type III PC Card slot.
The adapter is supplied with a media coupler which plugs into the
back end (15-pin receptacle) of the adapter. The other end of the
media coupler has an RJ-45 connector which receives the network
cable. Through the media coupler, the adapter can connect to a
10BASE-T Ethernet or a 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet network. The
adapter features auto-negotiation functionality. It can negotiate with
an auto-negotiation capable device automatically for the speed
(10Mbps or 100Mbps) and duplex mode (half or full-duplex). The
media coupler features LED indicators for link and activity states,
and for the selected speed and duplex mode.

2. Installing the Adapter

In the event that any item is missing, or if you find any mismatch or
damage, contact your dealer for correction.

2.1 Installing the Adapter
To install the adapter in your computer, follow these steps:
1. Insert the adapter into a computer
UnderthePCMCIAstandard,PCCardmaysafelybe"hotswapped"
-itisnotnecessarytoswitchthecomputer'spoweroffbeforeinstall-
ing or removing the adapter, or any other PC Card.
Find and select a free Type II or Type III PC Card slot on your
notebook computer. Hold the adapter with colorful label upward.
Noticethat the label features a triangle or "arrow", which points to
the front end of the adapter. Insert the front end of the adapter into
thePC Card slot, and slidethe adapterall the way into theslot until
it reaches a firm stop.

2. Attach the Media Coupler
The back-end receptacle of the adapter remains accessible when
the adapter is properly seated in its PC Card slot. Taking care to
keep the top side of the media coupler plug up, insert the plug into
the adapter's receptacle until it is firmly seated and latched. The
topsideoftheplugislabeledwithatrianglemoldedintotheplastic.

3. Connect to the Network Medium
Make the network connection by running a UTP cable from the
connected hub to your media coupler. Plug one end (RJ-45 con-
nector) of the cable into an available hub port and plug the other
end (RJ-45 connector) to the RJ-45 jack of the media coupler.
