Your dryer must be properly installed and vented to achieve maximum drying efficiency and shorten

drying times. Install your dryer in a well-ventilated room where the temperature is always above

45°F (7°C). Also make sure that your dryer is leveled. Refer to your installation instructions for more

information.

Venting

Fire Hazard

Use aheavy metal vent.

Do not use a plastic vent.

Do not use a metal foil vent.

Failure to follow these instructions can result

in death or fire.

If the dryer is not properly installed and vented, it

will not be covered under the warranty.

NOTE: Service calls caused by improper venting

will be paid for by the customer, whether it was a

paid installation or self-installed. For paid installa-

tion, call the company that installed the vent for

adjustment.

1. Four-inch heavy metal or flexible metal vent must

be used. Do not use

plastic vent or flexible

metal foil vent. Do not

kink or crush flexible

metal vent. It must be

completely extended to

allow adequate exhaust

air to flow. Check vent

after installation. Refer

to your Installation

Instructions for proper

length requirements of vent.

2. Use a 4" exhaust hood. Smaller hoods increase

drying times.

3. The exhaust vent can be routed up, down, left,

right, or straight out the

back of the dryer. Space

requirements are listed

in your Installation

Instructions.

Venting (cont.)

4. Use the straightest path 3ossible when routing the

exhaust vent. Avoid 90°

turns, if possible. Allow

room when using

elbows or making turns.

Bend vent gradually to

avoid kinking.

5. Use duct tape to seal all joints. Do not use screws

to secure vent. Lint may

catch on screws.

6. Clean exhaust vent periodically, depending on use,

but at least every 2 years,

or when installing your

dryer in a new location.

• Disconnect vent from

the dryer and clean one

section at a time until

you reach the exhaust

hood.

• Use the hose attach-

ment on your vacuum,

or a pole or wire with a

feather duster or rag attached, to clean out lint.

Be sure the flapper on the outside end of vent

moves freely.

When cleaning is complete, be sure to follow the

Installation Instructions supplied with your dryer

for final product check.

To get the best dryer results possible, you must use your dryer correctly. This section tells you how to

use your dryer properly and efficiently.

Starting your dryer

Explosion Hazard

Never place items in the dryer that are

dampened with gasoline or other

flammable fluids.

No washer can completely remove oil.

Do not dry anything that has ever had any

type of oil on it (including cooking oils).

Doing so can result in death, explosion,

or fire.

Before using your dryer, wipe the dryer drum with a

damp cloth to remove dust from storing and shipping.

If your dryer has a Consumer Buy Guide, remove it

and place it with this Use and Care Guide.

1. Load clothes loosely into the dryer and close the

door. Do not pack the

dryer; allow space for

clothes to tumble freely.

3. Set the Temperature selector to the recommended

setting for the type of

fabric being dried.

m The cycle descriptions

on pages 10-12 include

temperature setting

suggestions.

4. (OPTIONAL STEP) Set the Cycle Signal selector to

m D

L L:On if you want the dryer

to sound a signal when a

cycle is finished. The

signal is helpful when you

are drying permanent

press, synthetics, and

other items that should

be removed from the

dryer as soon as it stops.

5. (OPTIONAL STEP) Your

m D

dryer has an Extra Care

feature to protect your

clothing from wrinkling

once the dryer stops.

• On models KEYS777E

and KGYS777E, set the

Extra Care selector to Off

if you want the dryer to

stop after cool-down.

(See page 10.)

2. Turn the Cycle Control Knob to the recommended

cycle for the type of load

being dried, as de-

scribed on pages 10-12.

Use the Energy

Preferred Automatic

Setting (2)in the Regu-

lar/Heavy cycle to dry

most heavyweight and

mediumweight loads.

Starting your dryer (cont.)

6. Push the Start Button.

NOTE: Your dryer stops automatically when a

cycle ends.

Stopping and restarting your dryer

You can stop your dryer anytime during a cycle.

To stop your dryer:

Open the dryer door or turn the Cycle Control Knob

to Off.

NOTE: The Cycle Control Knob should point to an

Off area when the dryer is not in use.

To restart your dryer:

Close the door, select a new cycle and temperature

(if desired), and push the Start Button.

Selecting the right cycle and temperature setting

The following pages describe the drying cycles

on your dryer. The descriptions include suggested

temperature settings and drying times for various

loads.

Cycle and temperature tips

•Models KEYS777E and KGYS777E have a special

Ultra Low temperature setting that reduces drying

temperatures, providing enhanced fabric care for

delicates and other fine fabrics.

•In both Automatic cycles (Regular/Heavy and

Permanent Press), the FLO-THRU TM Drying

System automatically reduces the heat near

the end of the cycles to prevent overdrying.

•If some types of loads in the cycle descriptions

have more than one suggested temperature

setting, choose the lowest setting available on

your dryer.

•The last few minutes of all cycles are without heat

to make the load cooler to handle.

Drying tips

•Make sure you have selected the correct cycle

and temperature for your load. For example, use

the Towels feature for best drying results with

extra heavy items.

•Always follow care label directions when they are

available.

• Always use fabric softener sheets labeled as

dryer safe and follow package instructions

carefully.

• Remove the load from the dryer as soon as

tumbling stops to reduce wrinkling. This is

especially important for permanent press, knits,

and synthetic fabrics.

Automatic cycles

Your dryer has 2 Automatic cycles: Regular/Heavy

and Permanent Press. Both Automatic cycles use

an electronic dryness sensor control that senses the

amount of moisture in the load and shuts off the

dryer when the selected dryness is reached.

The Cycle Control Knob does not move until the

load is almost dry. After the cool-down, the Knob

automatically turns to an Off area and tumbling

stops.

• Dry most loads using the Energy Preferred Auto-

matic Setting (2) in the Regular/Heavy cycle.

For any Automatic setting, you can choose any

temperature setting you want. Suggested tempera-

ture settings are listed below.

• If the load is drier than you like, select a setting

closer to Less Dry the next time you dry a

similar load.

• If the load is not as dry as you like, complete drying

using the Timed Dry cycle (see next page). Select a

setting closer to Very Dry the next time you dry a

similar load.

The Extra Care feature protects your clothing from

wrinkles if you are unable to unload the dryer within

5 minutes after tumbling stops. The Extra Care

feature tumbles the load without heat every few

minutes up to 40 minutes after the cycle ends.

On models KEYS777E and KGYS777E, you can

set the Extra Care feature On or Off (see page 8).

If the SELECTRA TM button is set to Off, the Perma-

nent Press cycle ends after cool-down.

• A signal sounds every few minutes when Extra

Care is running. The signal and cycle stop when

you open the dryer door.

Use the Regular/Heavy Automatic cycle for

heavyweight and

mediumweight cotton

VERYDR¥ items, such as towels,

linens, bedspreads,

work clothes, blue

jeans, and corduroys.

Set your Temperature

selector to Hi or Med

Hi heat.

Use the Towels feature

when you have large

loads of thick towels to dry. This setting allows for

more drying time and can also be used for extra

heavy items such as mattress pads and quilts.

Use the Permanent Press Automatic cycle for

heavyweight and

mediumweight perma-

nent press items, knits,

and other synthetic

fabrics.

Set your Temperature

selector to Hi, Med,

or Low heat.
