A full MIDI Implementaon allows CLOCKstep:MULTI to be controlled remotely
from an external MIDI device.
CLOCKstep:MULTI is a MIDI Clock, CV Sync, Transport Controller and Audio
Metronome all in one box.
All of these features can be organized and stored into 40 Presets.
Clock and Transport funcons can either be controlled independently or in unison
depending on the user’s Transport Mode selecon.
The Audio Metronome is configurable with a variety of sounds, independent
subdivision volumes and Time Signatures.
Hooked up to a dedicated Audio Output from a DAW, it can deliver perfectly med
sync between the DAW and other connected hardware devices. (aka: Sample
Accurate Sync)
The two (2) CV Trigger Sync Outs can be independently configured for different
sync rates to interface with a variety of modular/Eurorack Synths, Sequencers,
Drum Machines and Loopers.

Each buon is labeled for its primary funcon.
The User Interface is comprised of a grid of 16 backlit buons.
When accessing certain features, the arrangement will change
to indicate a new set of choices. In many cases, the new
arrangement is for selecon of a value between 1-16 from le
to right and top to boom, where the Top Le buon is 1 and
the Boom Right buon is 16.
All arrangements and selecons are detailed in the coming
chapters.

There are 2 buons for controlling Start,
Stop, Pause and Connue.
How these buons work will be determined
by the user’s choice of Transport Mode. The
descripon of each of the modes is covered
below.
Changing the Transport Mode is covered in
the Global Sengs chapter.

sending a Stop commands to all connected devices.
Simple Transport Mode
The Clock/Stop buon is used to Stop the unit if it is currently
started or paused.
Starng or Stopping the Clock cannot be performed independent of the
Transport commands in Simple Transport Mode.
This is the default mode of CLOCKstep:MULTI.
The Start/Pause buon is used to simultaneously begin
running the Clock and send Start commands to all connected
devices.

Resync Transport Mode
If the Clock is not currently running, the Start/Pause buon is
used to simultaneously run the Clock and send Commands to
all connected devices.
Similar to Simple Transport Mode, but in this mode Pause is replaced by a
Resync funcon.
While started, this buon is used to Resync the Metronome Bar and all
connected devices (by sending Stop, Reset, Song Posion Pointer=0 and
Start in that order).
If the clock is currently running, this buon sends the Resync command set
while simultaneously aligning the Metronome Bar to this point.
Starng or Stopping the Clock cannot be performed independent of the
Transport commands in Resync Transport Mode.
While started, the Clock/Stop buon is used to send Stop
commands to all connected devices. This does not stop CS:M’s
own Clock and Metronome unl you press it a second me.
While started, this buon is used to Pause the Clock and send a Stop
command to all connected devices.
A hybrid of the previous 2 modes, this mode offers more funconality from
using only 2 buons.
The Start/Pause buon is used to simultaneously begin
running the Clock and sending Start commands to all
connected devices.
The Clock/Stop buon is used to Stop the unit if it is currently
started.
While paused, this buon is used to resume the Clock and send
Start/Connue commands to all connected devices.
Align Transport Mode
While stopped, this buon can be used to begin running CS:M’s internal
Clock independently of Transport commands, which also begins running the
Metronome. Only the Clock pulses are sent to other devices, there are no
other commands transmied.

Quanze Transport Mode
If the Clock is currently running, this buon will place Start into a pending
state unl the top of the next Bar is reached, at which me all of the Start
commands are sent (in perfect me with the top of that Bar).
While started, this buon is used to Pause the Clock and send a Stop
command to all connected devices.
If the Clock is not currently running, the Start/Pause buon
will only respond by flashing, indicang that it is in a pending
state. The Start commands will be sent once the Clock begins
running.
This mode doesn’t have any rules. The Transport and the Clock funcons
are independent from each other except in the case of Pausing.
While started, the Clock/Stop buon is used to send Stop
commands to all connected devices. This does not stop CS:M’s
own Clock and Metronome unl you press it a second me.
While paused, this buon is used to resume the Clock and send
Start/Connue commands to all connected devices.
This mode ensures that the Start commands are always perfectly aligned
with the downbeat of the next Metronome Bar.
While stopped, this buon can be used to begin running CS:M’s internal
Clock independently of Transport commands, which also begins running the
Metronome. Only the Clock pulses are sent to other devices, there are no
other commands transmied.

Once 3 numbers have been entered, the

One of the lights in the keypad will actually
be green, but ignore that for the moment.
It’ll be explained a lile further down.
Press the Red buon to Cancel.
Only input that is within the valid BPM
range is accepted, so for instance the first number entered cannot be a 5.
The operaon for entering BPM is exactly
the same as you would use a 10-key on a
calculator or keyboard, accepng 3
numbers in sequence. As you input the
numbers, the column of buons on the
right will turn green from top to boom to
indicate that the number has been
registered.
Exact Tempo
You can input an exact BPM by holding down the Tempo buon for 2
seconds. The lighng display will change to a calculator 10-key layout. (the

Tempo Decimal
Aer inpung the decimal value, you will be given only the opon of
Execung or Cancelling again.
Somemes you need to know what tempo CLOCKstep:MULTI is currently set
at. This is where that green light shown within the 10-key layout comes into
play.
If you’d like to enter a 1 point decimal
value, press the white buon at the final
stage, which is in the same place as a
calculator 10-key decimal. A 10-key layout
will appear again, waing for you to input
one more value.
To read the current tempo, press the Tempo key for 2 seconds to bring up
the calculator 10-key. The green light show in the 10-key is the current
value used. Follow pressing the green lights within the 10-key and you will
be re-entering the same BPM value that is currently running. Once at the
last stage, you can either Execute or Cancel.

External Clock Tempo
When CLOCKstep:MULTI is following an External Clock, the Tempo buon is
deacvated. Tempo can only be set by the External Clock device. See the
