Theseinstructionsforinstallationandusearemeantfortheownerofthesauna.The
instructionmanualmustbegiventotheownerwheninstallationiscomplete.
Makesuretostorethismanualforlateruse.
Readthroughtheinstructionsbeforeinstallation:
Whenchoosingthelocationforthestove,checkthesafetydistancestoinflammable
materials.
Checktheweightbearingcapacityoftheflooraswellastheconnectiontothechimney
(whetheryouneedastraightoranangledconnectorpipe),ortheinstallationroutefora
newchimneypipe,ifneeded.
Alllocalregulationsmustbecompliedwithduringinstallation,includingthoserelatingto
localorEU‐levelstandards.
NOTE!
Beware of the sharp edges of the mesh frame and other parts. Always wear
protective gloves and a long‐sleeved shirt when handling the mesh frame and
pilinginstones.

1. SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS
ThestoveMUSTNOTbeusedforanyotherpurposethanheatingthesauna,e.g.dryingclothes
orheatingaconstructionsite,etc.
Coveringthestoveduringuseorwhenitishotisstrictlyprohibited.
Throwingseawateronthestonesisprohibitedandwillcausethewarrantytobecomevoid
andmaycauseearlycorrosion.
Bewareoftheblastconnection,hatch,orothermetalsurfacesofthestoveandthestones,
THEYMAYBEHOT!Alwayswearprotectivegloves,etc.
Beextracautiouswhenusingthestovewhenchildrenarepresent!
Bewareofthesharpedgesofthemeshframeandotherparts.Alwayswearprotectivegloves
andalong‐sleevedshirtwhenhandlingthemeshframeandpilinginstones.
Inadditiontothisinstruction,theEUheaterstandard15821,localfirerescueauthority’srules
andregulationsmustbetakenintoaccountwheninstallingandusingthestove.
Thewarrantydoesnotcoverproblemscausedbyfaultyinstallationandimproperuse.
NOTE!Thehatchinthestovemaydiscolourafterfrequentuseandthepaintmayshowsignsof
wear.Itispossibletoapplyanewcoatofpaint(600‐degreeheatresistantpaint).Beforepainting,
thehatchmustbecleanedwithdegreaserandthesurfacesmoothed.

IKIwood‐burningstovesarerecommendedtobeinstalledintobrick,ceramicorair‐cooled

2.2Preparationforuse
Preparatoryburn:Lightafireinthestoveoncebeforelayingthestonesandbathing,in
ordertogetridofanypotentiallyharmfulresiduefromprotectivecoatingsoroilonthe
steelsurfaces.Thisshouldbedoneoutsideorinawell‐ventilatedspace.
Itisrecommendedthatadamperisinstalledintothechimneytoallowdraughttobe
adjusted.Thereisalsoasmallknobonthehatchthatallowsairflowtoberegulated.
Inafullironhatch,movetheknobuptoopenitanddowntoshut.Inaglasshatchthe
knobismovedtotherighttoopenandtothelefttoshutit.
Inordinaryuse,olivine‐doleritestonessmallerthan10cmindiameter,arerecommended.
Thestonesshouldbelaidcarefullytoallowmaximumairflow.
Keepingflammableliquidsormaterialsnearthestoveisstrictlyforbidden.
Thefireauthoritiesmustbenotifiedofallsootfires,eveniftheyhavebeenexhausted.
Inprivatesaunasinrecreationalorotherwiseinfrequentuse,thechimneysmustbeswept
everythreeyears.
Inprivateorsharedsaunasinregularandfrequentuse,thechimneysmustbesweptyearly.
Thefrequencywithwhichthestonesrequirereplacingdependsontheuserate.Forexample,
inprivate‐usesaunas,thestonesclosesttothefurnaceshouldbecheckedandreplaced,if
needed,everysecondyear.Insharedandfrequentlyusedsaunas,moreoften.
2.3 Safetydistancestoflammablestructures
Pleasenotethatthegapbetweenthefurnaceandthestonemesh
mustbefilledwithstones.

2.4 Reductionofsafetydistances
Safetydistancecanbecutdownby50%whenusingsimpleprotection(i.e.1mmmetal/fibre
boardanda30mmairgap)
Safetydistancecanbecutdownby75%whenusingdoubleprotection(doubleprotection
boardandairgap)
ATTN!Inthe“Plus”modelstoves,wherethesmokepipeisalsocoveredbystones,thesafety
distancesarereducedby50%comparedtoplain,uncoveredsmokepipes.
2.5 Protectivebaseforthestove
Ifthestoveistobeinstalledonaninflammablefloorsurface(e.g.woodenflooring)aprotective
basemustbelaidunderthestove.Theprotectivebasemustbemadefromfireproofmaterialand
haveanairgap,suchasthestainlesssteelprotectivebasefromIKIKiuas.
Thesizeandshapeoftheprotectivebasemustadheretothesafetyregulationsforthestove.
Notethattheprotectivebaseshouldalsoextendtocoverthefloorareainfrontofthefurnace’s
hatch.
Thesafetydistanceof50cmmeasureddiagonallyfromthefurnacetothefloorinthefrontofthe
stovecanbereducedbyhalfifastainlesssteelprotectivebasewitha3‐cmairgapisused.
Theprotectivebaseaddsapprox.65mmtotheheightofthestove.Thisshouldbefactoredin
whencalculatingthechimneyorfurnaceconnectingpipes.

2.6 Chimneyconnectionheight
Thechimneyconnectionheightforthestovesiscalculatedfromthefloor,withoutabase,tothe
centreofthechimneypipe,whenthefurnacestandsonitssupportlegs.(TheIKIstainlesssteel
protectivebaseaddsapprox.67mmtotheheight).Theouterdiameterofthechimneyconnection
pipeis115mminallIKIstoves.
2.7 Chimneyconnectiononnon‐standardheights(Plusmodelstoves)
ForthePlusmodelstoves,therearetwoalternativesforchimneyconnection:
Theuppermeshframecanbepuncturedatrequiredheighttoconnecttoandexisting
chimneypipe(i.e90degreepipe).
Thelengthofthestraightconnectionpipecanbecutdowntorequiredlength
Theangledpipecanbeledthroughtheholeinmeshframeandconnectedtothechimney
pipe.(Inthiscase,thestonesabovethepipeintheuppermeshframewillnotheatupand
youwilllosesomeofthestove’sheatingpower)
OR:
Theuppermeshframecanbeshortenedfromthebottomalongwiththestraightpipeto
decreasetheheightoftheentirestructure.

3. VENTILATIONANDCOMPENSATIONAIR
Awood‐burningstoveneedssufficientincomeofairtoburnwell.Thebathersinthesaunaroom
alsorequireoxygen‐richairforbreathing.Well‐functioningventilationisalsorequiredtodrythe
saunaroomproperlyafterbathing.Thereareseveralventilationsystemsavailablefromvarious
manufacturers,thesuitabilitydependsmainlyonthesaunaroomstructure.
3.1 Gravity‐assistedventilationssystem(Illustration4.1)
Theairtofeedthefiremustbeledfromoutsidethesauna,usingapipeequippedwitha50‐100
mmgrateandadiscvalve,anddirectedeithertothesideofthestoveortofloorbesidethestove
(forexamplea50‐100mmpipeat50‐100mmheightfromthefloor).
Freshairforbreathingcanbedirectedbesidethestove,forexamplewitha100‐mmpipe,at
50‐100mmheight,abovethestove’sstonebase.
Exhaustairisledoutofthesaunapreferablythroughaholeequippedwithadiscvalveandan
adjustablegrid,placedbetweenthelowerandupperbenches.Theairshouldflowthrougha
metal‐linedchannelbuiltinsidethewallandexitjustbelowtheroof.Theexhaustairvalvecan
alsobeintheceilingorclosetotheceilingonthewalloppositethestove.
Freshairforthestoveandforbreathingcanalsobeledinthroughavalveinthedoor,oragab
belowit.Ifthedoorleadstoadressingroom,properventilationofthespacemustbeensured.Air
shouldbeallowedtoflowinquitefreelyduringbathinganddryingoftheroom.Makesuretheair
inletsdonotgetobstructed.
Asthelitstoveheatstheair,itrotatesinsidethesaunaroomandmovesupward.Freshairis
suckedinsidefromtheairinletsnearthefloorandexpelledfromtheoutletsbesidethebenches
orhighupintheceiling.
3.2 Machine‐assistedventilation
Inmachineassistedventilation,thecirculationofairandventilationoftheroomismademore
efficient,buttheairflowprinciplesandinletandoutlocationsarethesameasinGravityassisted.
3.3 Chimneyventilatorandmorethanonefurnace
Achimneyventilatorisnotrecommendedwithwood‐burningsaunastoves.Thehigh
temperaturesofthecombustiongasesmaybreaktheventilator.
Ifthereisneedformorethanonefurnaceinthesauna,combustiongasfromeachfurnace
mustbedirectedtoseparateexhaustduct.Forexample,acauldronandstovecombination
requiresa2‐passagechimney.
Theairinletsmustbemeasuredaspersituation(capacityfortwofurnaces,adjustable
valvefortheamountofair).
