MaxiSoft 30 50 70 90 L110 Octagon
For your Hedler light unit you have bought a MaxiSoft folding reector, which has a soft light characteristic. We thank you for your trust in our
product and we would like to please you, to read the following technical, usage and safety information carefully.
Codes in brackets are order numbers.
HEDLER MaxiSoft
The HEDLER MaxiSoft range contains folding reectors from 30 x 30cm up to 90 x 90cm, the Longbox 110 x 45cm and the Octagon 100. They
are progressively constructed with rounded corners; have a Velcro™ fastener attachable diffusor with optional, the complete diffuser covering
lter gels; are light weight and own a tough material. If folded a small-size and a carrying bag make transportation easy; inside the studio and on-
location a fast assemble and disassemble is assured. Because of the new design, a highly homogeneous spread light beam is one characteristic of
each model of the MaxiSoft range, according to practical needs we offer different sizes for all Hedler light units of the Professional- and Compact-
Model range. New HEDLER Honeycombs, that come along with a carrying and protection bag, are optional available for the models MaxiSoft
30, 50, 70, 90, L110 and Octagon 100.
The availability of the different MaxiSoft sizes is the result of practical needs. The more soft light characteristic of a softbox compared with other
reectors can be additionally adjusted through the chosen size according to the objects size and by changing the distance between light unit and
object. As a thumb-rule: The bigger the light beam emitting surface of the MaxiSoft is and the closer it is positioned to the object, the softer the
light characteristic will be.
Uni-Adapt System
Because of the Uni-Adapt System it is possible to attach all MaxiSoft folding reectors to nearly every Hedler light unit. For older Hedler light
units there is the Uni-Adapter <7000> available, for the HEDLER C-lights C 3, C 10, C 12 and C 12 silent we are offering the HEDLER
Speedring C as an adaptor for attaching the folding reectors to the Hedler C-light units. The main advantages of the Uni-Adapt System are
the totally free positioning of the folding reector over a complete 360° circle and additionally the capability of fast changing between different
reectors, which lets you fast and easily react according to the changing needs of lighting characteristics.
Important: Maximum of usable Lighting Power
Every single MaxiSoft model has a maximum of heat resistance which is dened by technical reasons and size, because of this it is very important
to take special care of the following instructions and information: MaxiSoft 30 x 30cm is usable up to 300 Watts; MaxiSoft 50 x 50cm is usable
up to 2000 Watts; MaxiSoft 70 x 70cm, MaxiSoft 90 x 90 cm and MaxiSoft Octagon 100 are usable up to 2500 Watts; MaxiSoft L 110 x 45cm is
usable up to 2000 Watts and does not suit for the continuous silent operation mode.
Filter gels, Roundmasks and Honeycombs
Filter gels are available for all MaxiSoft Folding reectors, they offer a homogeneous Daylight-ltering. Besides this are roundmasks available for
all square shaped MaxiSoft folding reectors, they allow to create round light reexes on shiny surfaces. Honeycombs are available for some
of the MaxiSoft folding reectors, they suppress stray light and increase contrast and brilliance. Another advantage of Honeycombs is, that the
angle between light unit and camera can be a wider one, which allows greater possibilities for the positioning of the light unit. Accessories can
be attached by using Velcro™ fastener.

NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS
Working with Hedler MaxiSoft Folding re ectors, make sure that the forced air cooling of the light unit is not obstructed in any way. Keep a
minimum distance of 80 cm between the MaxiSoft and the light unit and any combustible solids. Do not use the lights near readily in ammable
liquids, gases, solids or explosives that may be set off by heat or spark.
The Hedler MaxiSoft folding re ectors and light units are designed for professional use and should be used with professional care. The
manufacturer will not assume responsibility for damage caused by unprofessional or otherwise careless use of this equipment.
ASSEMBLE and DISASSEMBLE
All HEDLER MaxiSoft folding re ectors will be assembled and disassembled in the same way. For the assembling we would like to recommend
the following process:
• Spread out the textile re ector - silver side up - on a at surface (table or oor).
• Put the rotating base plate (sleeves pointing upwards) onto the round reinforced opening of the re ector fabric.
• Stick the rods with the larger ending into the sleeves of the rotating base plate ( g. 1).
• Loosen the black Velcro™ pre-tauten-strips at the folding re ector´s corners and pre-tauten the re ector by putting the sleeves of the pre-
tauten-strips cross-wise onto the rubberised endings of the rods ( g. 2).
• Slip onto the rods - again cross-wise - the re ector´s corners (which are equipped with black, angle-shaped Velcro™ fastener). This step can
be very easily done, when the pre-tauten-strips are held in the middle and moved downwards while slipping on the re ector´s corner.
Because of the downward moving, an unwanted fastening of the Velcro™ will be partly or completely avoided, to give the Folding re ector
it´s correct shape is much more easily ( g. 3).
Each light unit that should be used with a MaxiSoft folding re ector has to have a safety glass in it´s place. Attaching the folding re ector with the
integrated (or as an additional retro tted component) QuickFit adapter is done by the following procedure:
• Place the rim of the folding re ector´s ring into the guide grooves of the upper studs, the round opening over the cone-shaped stud and push
the lower part of the rim against the light unit´s front plate until the rim securely snaps into the QuickFit cone-shaped stud´s guide groove
(refer to g. 4, lower right side).
Please, after attaching the folding re ector check it´s correct position: manually rotating/adjusting the re ector must be possible without
any unwanted lift off from the light unit´s front plate.
• Place the diffuser fabric over the re ector´s opening by pulling the Velcro™ frame on the backside of the diffuser fabric over the edges of the
re ector´s front. To secure it , please press on the Velcro™ frame after correct positioning.
• Adjust the MaxiSoft folding re ector position by rotating the complete re ector (if you are using the Uni-Adapt System as an additional
component it´s possible to secure the position with a xing screw on the backside of the Uni-Adapt System).
Disassembling the MaxiSoft folding re ectors is done in reverse order: remove the diffuser fabric, lift the handle of the QuickFit adapter and lift
the folding re ector out off the guide grooves of the two upper studs.
If you want to disassemble the MaxiSoft folding re ector completely: take off the folding re ector´s corners and the pre-tauten-strips of the end
of each rod, remove the rods out of the sleeves of the rotating base plate and put all parts into the carrying bag.
Pracitical Hint
Additional heat resistant masks can be attached in front of the MaxiSoft folding re ector. Create them in the wanted way by yourself - for
example as a special light beam “cutter” or as an effect mask - imaging the possibilities of varying the given light beam. You can use our self-
adhesive Velcor™ fastener, which we offer espescially for this purpose, for attaching the masks to the folding re ector.
