TUNING YOUR GUITAR
There is a standard tuning for the strings
on a guitar. Generally, these are referred to
simply as E, A, D, G, B, high E.

There are many free tuner apps available
for iOS, Android and online. Electronic
tuning devices that indicate string tuning
are also inexpensive and widely available.
Most tuner apps and programs work
similarly. When you play a string, the tuner
analyzes the sound and shows whether it
is flat (too low), sharp (too high), or on
pitch (correct). If needed, you slowly rotate
the guitar’s tuning head as appropriate to
correct the pitch.
Note
The direction you turn depends on which string
you are tuning.
More About Tuning
The following tips will help you obtain
more accurate tuning.
• After changing a string, pull it upward
with moderate force to tighten the
string around the tuning head. The
string will likely go somewhat flat. Tune
up to pitch, then “stretch” the string
again. Repeat until the string no longer
goes flat when stretched.
• Strings retain correct pitch longer if
you tune up from flat to correct pitch.
If a string is sharp, tune it somewhat
flat, then tune it up to pitch.
• Old strings are hard to keep in tune.
Change them periodically.
• After tuning your guitar, check the
string pitches again.You may need to
tune a couple times before the tuning
“settles in”.

To help maintain consistent neck tension,
replace strings one at a time and tune
each string before proceeding to the next
string. Maestro recommends tuning the two
outside strings first, then tune toward the
center to equalize pressure on the bridge.
Note
A string’s end is sharp and can puncture your skin.
Inserting strings at the bridge
(acoustic guitar)
The string ends that terminate in a ring
insert at the bridge in their associated holes.
Use the bridge pins to hold the string ends
in place, with the pin notch facing the
headstock. Always string the bridge end
before attaching at the headstock.

(electric guitar)
Insert the strings through the holes in the
bridge that face the pickup, then wrap them
around over the top toward the headstock.
Each string should pass within a small
corresponding groove in the bridge. Always
string the bridge end before attaching at the
headstock.

1. Tune the first string to be changed flat
and keep going until it is loose enough
for you to remove.
2. Insert the new string at the bridge as
described above and bring toward the
headstock.
3. Tug the string end slightly to make sure
it’s seated securely in the bridge.

4. Now feed the string through the hole in
the tuning head (Fig. 1).

5. Leave just enough slack to wrap a turn
of the string above the hole (Fig. 2). As
you tighten the tuning head, the string
end coming out of the hole will be
squeezed between this winding, helping
to anchor it.
Note
The string should run closer to the inside of
the headstock than the outside.

6. Start tuning the string up to pitch
(Fig.3).
7. Proceed to the section on Tuning and
tune the string to pitch.When it’s on
pitch, follow the same procedure for
the remaining strings.
8. When you’ve finished tuning your
guitar, use a wire cutter to trim the
string ends to within about 3/8”
(10mm) of the tuning head.

Connecting your guitar to amplifier
A 3 meter cable is included to connect the
guitar to the amp. Plug the ‘L’ shaped end
into the guitar and the straight end into the
amp.
Note
Before plugging your guitar into the amp and
turning it on, make sure the Volume and Gain
controls on the amp are all the way down.
Control Adjustments
Your Maestro electric guitar has two
controls.
Volume
Tone
• The Volume control sets the amount of
output from the guitar. Turn clockwise
for more output, counter-clockwise for
less output.
• The Tone control can reduce high
frequencies, which produces a “darker”
sound as you turn it further counter-
clockwise.
Refer to the amplifier manual for guidance
on how to use with your guitar.

HOLDING YOUR GUITAR
You can play guitar sitting down or standing
up. When standing up, use the included
strap (strap not included with mini acoustic
guitar). Each strap end has slots; slide the
large end of the guitar’s strap pins through
the strap slots to hold the strap in place.
Note
The acoustic guitar has a strap pin on the
underside of where the neck meets the body.You
can change the strap length by sliding the strap
buckle along the strap.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
String maintenance
Proper string maintenance will make them
last longer and sound better.
• To prevent corrosion, wash your
hands before playing so dirt or loose
skin doesn’t get stuck in wound metal
strings.
• Wiping strings after playing extends
life, especially with strings that have
windings on them.
• Check frets for damage periodically, as
roughness can damage strings. Guitar
repair shops can repair damaged frets.
Polishing
Use only soft micro-fiber cloths and
polishes formulated specifically for guitars.
Do not over-apply polish, a small amount is
all you need.
Humidity
Humidity aects wood. Dry air causes
moisture to migrate out from wood, which
can create cracks.With high humidity, wood
absorbs moisture and can warp. Maestro
prepares wood carefully to resist humidity
changes, but it’s best to maintain humidity
between 40% and 60%.
Temperature
The optimum temperature range for
a guitar is between 65-75°F/18-24°C.
While they can withstand more extreme
temperatures for short periods, major
temperature changes or sustained extreme
temperatures can cause damage.
• Never leave your guitar in a car during
the summer or winter, or expose it to
direct sunlight.
• When bringing a guitar indoors from
outdoors, with significant temperature
dierences leave the guitar in its case
for 10 minutes so it can adjust to the
new temperature.
• Never leave your guitar in direct
sunlight.
