GB Dear customer,
Thank you for your purchasing the Freecom MediaPlayer-3. The digital media
player that stores MPEG4/DivX video’s, MP3 music or JPEG pictures on its hard
drive and allows you to enjoy these directly on a TV and/or HiFi, without the use
of a computer. The Freecom MediaPlayer-3 will give you years of viewing and
listening enjoyment. Of course you can also always use it as a regular portable
external hard drive. Slim, high quality design, Backlit LCD and front Navigation
buttons make the device easy to use and easy to take with you, wherever you go
and whenever you want.
This user manual will explain you all the functions and features of the player. The
better you know how to use it, the more enjoyment you will get from it.

System Requirements
The following hard- and software requirements must be fulfilled to ensure
trouble-free operation.
Hardware Requirements
• Pentium III 500MHz or faster
• At least 128 MB RAM
• USB interface (USB 1.1 or USB 2.0*)
• A CD-ROM drive or internet connection for driver installation
• For playback on TV, a TV with PAL or NTSC system is required.
• Support HDD: Compatible with standard 3.5” IDE Hard Drive
Software Requirements
• Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98 Second Edition
• For use under MAC OS (OS X or higher), the drive needs to be FAT-32
formatted.

Main Features
Movie
Store movies, TV shows, music videos and more from your PC onto the player and
view them directly on your TV or projector anytime, anywhere. The player is able
to play MPEG-4 (DivX) video files in DVD quality.
Multi-codec Music Player
The player features a newly designed music player that plays MP3, WMA, OGG
and ASF music files anytime, anywhere. Thanks to the high-quality 1.2” backlit
LCD, you can enjoy your favorite song directly from the device... no computer
needed.
Digital Photo Viewer and Wallet
Store JPEG photos directly from your computer on the player (through the USB
2.0 interface) and display them on your TV or projector; enjoy a slide show for
your family and friends without the use of a computer. PowerPoint files can also
be converted into JPEG files and be used for an office presentation.
Portable Storage Device
The player is recognized by your computer’s Operating System as a removable
disk. You can use the player as a high-capacity storage device. Store any file on
the device, take it with you and access your data on any computer.
USB 2.0
The player supports USB 2.0 (maximum transfer speed 480 Mbit/s). It can also be
connected to a USB 1.1 port. For optimal performance however the player must
be connected via USB 2.0.
Firmware Upgrade
The firmware of the player can be upgraded, to the latest available features/
specification. Check www.freecom.com for the latest firmware.
Graphic LCD supporting Multiple Languages
The player comes with a graphic 1.2” LCD and supports multiple languages.

Please read and follow the below mentioned instructions. They should be
observed in order to prevent injury to the user, damage to the device and
damage to property, as well as to ensure safe use of the product. Not following
these instructions may cause the unit to malfunction.
Warnings and Safety
To ensure that your Freecom MediaPlayer-3 functions properly, please take note
of the following precautions. If these are not followed, you may void your
warranty and damage the Freecom MediaPlayer-3.
• Safely remove the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 via your operating system (the
“unplug or eject hardware” option in the Windows taskbar) before discon-
necting the USB cable or power cable and before switching off the device.
Failing to do so may result in data loss.
• Do not disconnect the MediaPlayer from the PC during file transfer. This may
result in data loss and an error on the player. If this occurs, please run the
ScanDisk utility.
• Do not drop the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 or expose it to other kinds of sudden
mechanical shocks as this may result in data loss and damage to the hard
drive.
• Do not use the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 when the ambient temperature is
below 10°C or above 45°C.
• If the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 is moved from a cool environment to a warmer
environment, please allow the drive to acclimatize to the ambient tempera-
ture before operating the device. Failing to do so may lead to condensation
within the drive enclosure, which in turn may cause the drive to malfunction.
• Do not place liquids or drinks on the Freecom MediaPlayer-3. When liquids
are spilled and get in contact with the electronics within the drive enclosure,
it will damage the drive and will cause the drive to malfunction.
• Do not use the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 in a dusty environment. Dust inside
the enclosure may damage the internal electronics and result in drive
malfunction.
• Do not use the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 near magnetic fields.
• Opening the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 will void the warranty.
• The MediaPlayer-3 may generate heat when used for a longer period of
time.

• Damages or problems resulting from misuse, abuse, accident, alteration or
incorrect electrical current or voltage.
• Any product tampered-with or damaged warranty seal or serial number
label.
• Any product without a warranty or serial number label.
• Batteries and any consumable items delivered with or in the equipment.

Chapter 1: Getting Started
Please familiarize yourself with the device before using it. Make sure you
connect the device to your PC or TV or HiFi according to the below mentioned
instructions.
1. 1 FRONT VIEW
All basic operation functions can be done with the buttons on the device,
without use of the remote control.

1.3 MediaPlayer-3: How it works
The principle of using the Freecom MediaPlayer-3 is as follows:
1) Download* multimedia- files from the Internet or convert movies/music into
compressed format (for instance DivX, MP-3)
2) Connect the MediaPlayer-3 to your PC and store the multimedia-files on the
Freecom MediaPlayer-3
3) Take the MediaPlayer-3 to your livingroom and connect it to your TV and/or
HiFi set
4) Enjoy your multimedia files (movies, music, photo’s) on your TV or HiFi, in the
comfort of your livingroom.

Chapter 2: Connecting the MediaPlayer-3 to the PC
2.1 Connecting the player to the PC
1. Connect the USB cable to the player and connect the power adapter to the
DC jack on the player.
2. Connect the adapter into an AC outlet.
3. Connect the player to the PC’s USB port.
4. Switch the power on by pressing the power on-off button on the player
5. Windows 2000 and Windows XP will recognize the player as a USB drive
automatically; you can use the player without installing a driver.
Note: for use under Windows98SE, you have to install the USB2.0
driver from the manual CD.
6. If the player is not recognized or detected, please check if the USB connector
is properly connected to the device and the PC.
