FMS® Remote Hand Control
DESCRIPTION
The FMS Remote Hand Control is a non-sterile reusable device that activates pump and shaver fea-
tures of the FMS VUE™ and NEXTRA™ Fluid Management and Tissue Debridement Systems.
INTENDED USE
The FMS Remote Hand Control is intended for use with the FMS VUE and NEXTRA Fluid Management
and Tissue Debridement Systems in a surgical setting by personnel trained in arthroscopy.
INDICATION FOR USE
The FMS Remote Hand Control is an accessory to the FMS VUE and NEXTRA Fluid Management and
Tissue Debridement Systems. The FMS VUE and NEXTRA systems are intended to provide controlled
uid distention and suction, controlled cutting, burring, shaving and abrading of bone and tissue for use
in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, ankle, elbow, wrist and hip joints.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use the Remote Hand Control with systems other than the FMS VUE or NEXTRA Fluid Manage-
ment and Tissue Debridement Systems.
WARNINGS
• Prior to use, check the system components for damage. Check the cable integrity carefully. If there are
signs of damage, do not use.

• Failure to follow all applicable instructions may result in serious surgical consequences to the patient.
• Do not use ammable agents when cleaning and disinfecting.
• Do not wrap Remote Hand Control cable around metal objects. Wrapping cables around metal
objects may induce currents that could lead to electric shock, re and/or injury to patient or surgical
personnel.
• This device has been tested and found in compliance with limits of medical devices according
IEC60601-1-2 standard. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection in a typical
medical installation, against harmful interference when devices are located in close proximity. If the
pump is causing harmful interference with other devices, turn the main power off, then on again to
determine if it is causing the interference, relocate the system or separate it from other devices. If you
cannot resolve the problem contact DePuy Customer Service at 1-800-382-4682. In the European
Union, contact your local affiliate.
• Disconnect the device from the pump when cleaning or inspecting.
PRECAUTIONS
• Read the instructions, cautions, and warnings provided with all FMS VUE System accessories before
use.Your sales representative can advise which accessories are used with the FMS VUE System.
• Electrical safety testing should be performed by a biomedical engineer or other qualied person.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
This Remote Hand Control can be soaked and autoclaved.
DO NOT WET THE CONNECTOR.

Automated Cleaning
Clean before and after each use:
1. Place the protective cap securely onto the Remote Hand Control cable connector.
2. Carry out a rst soaking bath in a pH-neutral detergent such as CIDEXPLUS®for a minimum
of 15minutes (or an equivalent solution) and refer to cleaning agent solution manufacturer’s
instructions for immersion time and bath temperature.
3. Carry out ve (5) to-and-fro motions with a swab-type brush on all surfaces, paying particular
attention to the buttons, the screws on the back side and the seam around the sides.
4. Check for remaining debris and remove as needed.
5. Carry out a second soaking bath in a pH-neutral detergent such as CIDEXPLUS for a minimum of
15 minutes while using an ultrasound bath frequency of 50–60Hz (or an equivalent decontaminant
solution) and refer to cleaning agent solution manufacturer’s instructions for immersion time and bath
temperature.
6. Rinse with deionized water for 30 seconds.
7. Conrm that the protective cap is securely on the Remote Hand Control cable connector.
8. Clean in a validated washer disinfector using the “INSTRUMENTS” cycle and a pH neutral cleaning
agent intended for use in automated cleaning. Effective cleaning can be achieved using the following
parameters:
• Pre-wash at ambient temperature for 4 min.
• Enzyme washes with enzymatic cleaning agent for 4 min.
• Wash at 60°C with pH neutral cleaning agent for 3 min.
• Rinse with hot water for 20 seconds.
• Dry at 95°C for 5 min.
9. After automated cleaning, proceed to inspection instructions below.

Manual Cleaning

equivalent decontaminant solution) and refer to decontaminant instructions for immersion time and
bath temperature
3. Carry out 5 (ve) to-and-fro motions with a swab-type brush on all surfaces, paying particular
attention to the buttons, the screws on the back side and the seam around the sides.
4. Check for remaining debris and remove as needed.
5. Carry out a second soaking bath in a pH-neutral detergent such as CIDEXPLUS for a minimum of
15 minutes while using an ultrasound bath frequency of 50–60Hz (or an equivalent decontaminant
solution) and refer to cleaning agent solution manufacturer’s instructions for immersion time and bath
temperature.
6. Rinse with deionized water for 30 seconds at ambient temperature.
7. Dry with medical air at less than 100°C or 212°F for 30 seconds.
Inspection after cleaning
1. Inspect before sterilization or storage to ensure the complete removal of soil from surfaces and holes.
2. If areas are difficult to inspect visually, check for blood by immersing or ushing in a 3% hydrogen
peroxide solution. If bubbling is observed, blood is present. Rinse thoroughly after using hydrogen
peroxide solution.
3. If soil is still present, re-clean.
STERILIZATION
• The Remote Hand Control is factory sealed and can be completely sterilized using a steam autoclave.
• Use a validated, properly maintained and calibrated steam sterilizer.
• Effective steam sterilization can be achieved using a pre-vacuum cycle of 132°C for 4 minutes.

WARNING:These guidelines do not guarantee that the device is sterile after the procedure.The
institution is responsible for sterility assurance validation.
MAINTENANCE
• Inspect all equipment and cables periodically for wear. If damage is noted, replace or return to Repair
Service Center.
• Any repairs must be performed by a qualied Biomedical Engineer.
• Clean and disinfect after every use.

El control remoto manual FMS es un dispositivo reutilizable no estéril que activa características de la bomba y

USO INDICADO
El control remoto manual FMS está indicado para ser utilizado con los sistemas de gestión de líquidos
y desbridamiento de tejidos FMS VUE and NEXTRA en un ámbito quirúrgico por personal debida-
mente formado en artroscopia.
INDICACIONES DE USO
El control remoto manual FMS es un accesorio de los sistemas de gestión de líquidos y desbrida-
miento de tejidos FMS VUE y NEXTRA. Los sistemas FMS VUE y NEXTRA están indicados para
proporcionar distensión y succión de líquidos controladas, así como corte, fresado, afeitado y desgas-
tado controlados de hueso y tejido para uso en cirugía artroscópica de las articulaciones del hombro,
rodilla, codo, muñeca, tobillo y cadera.
CONTRAINDICACIONES
No utilice el control remoto manual con otros sistemas que no sean los sistemas de gestión de líquidos
y desbridamiento de tejidos FMS VUE o NEXTRA.
ADVERTENCIAS
• Antes de su uso, compruebe que los componentes del sistema no están dañados. Compruebe con
cuidado la integridad del cable. No lo utilice en caso de observar señales de daño.
• Si no se siguen debidamente todas las instrucciones correspondientes, pueden producirse graves
consecuencias quirúrgicas para el paciente.
• No utilice agentes inamables para la limpieza y desinfección.
• No cubra objetos metálicos con el cable del control remoto manual. Si lo hace, podría inducir
corrientes y provocar descargas eléctricas, fuego y/o lesiones tanto al paciente como al personal
quirúrgico.
• Este dispositivo se ha sometido a pruebas y se ha comprobado que cumple con los límites para
productos sanitarios establecidos por la norma IEC 60601-1-2. Estos límites están diseñados para
proporcionar una protección razonable contra interferencias nocivas en una instalación médica típica
cuando los dispositivos se encuentran muy próximos. Si la bomba produce interferencias nocivas en
otros dispositivos, apague la alimentación y, a continuación, vuelva a encenderla para determinar si

es la causa de las interferencias, cambie de lugar el sistema o sepárelo de los demás dispositivos.

PRECAUCIONES
• Lea las instrucciones, precauciones y advertencias suministradas con todos los accesorios del
sistema FMS VUE antes de utilizarlos. Su representante de ventas puede asesorarle sobre qué
accesorios se utilizan con el sistema FMS VUE.
• Las pruebas de seguridad eléctrica deben ser realizadas por un ingeniero biomédico u otra persona
cualicada.

LIMPIEZA Y DESINFECCIÓN
Este control remoto manual puede remojarse y esterilizarse en autoclave.
NO MOJE EL CONECTOR.
Limpieza automática
Limpiar antes y después de cada uso:
1. Fije bien la tapa protectora sobre el conector del cable del control remoto manual.
2. Realice un primer baño de remojo en un detergente de pH neutro, como CIDEXPLUS®, durante
15minutos como mínimo (o una solución equivalente) y reérase a las instrucciones del fabricante
de la solución de limpieza para determinar el tiempo de inmersión y la temperatura del baño.
3. Realice cinco (5) movimientos hacia adelante y hacia atrás con un cepillo tipo torunda sobre todas
las supercies, prestando particular atención a los botones, los tornillos del lado de atrás y la unión
en torno a los laterales.

4. Compruebe que no quedan residuos y elimine los que encuentre.
5. Realice un segundo baño de remojo en un detergente de pH neutro, como CIDEXPLUS, durante
15minutos como mínimo usando una frecuencia de baño de ultrasonido de 50–60 Hz (o una
solución descontaminante equivalente) y reérase a las instrucciones del fabricante de la solución
de limpieza para determinar el tiempo de inmersión y la temperatura del baño.
6. Aclare con agua desionizada durante 30 segundos.
7. Compruebe que la tapa protectora está bien jada sobre el conector del cable del control remoto
manual.
8. Limpie utilizando el ciclo “INSTRUMENTOS” de un dispositivo de lavado desinfectante homologado
y un agente limpiador con pH neutro para uso en limpieza automática. Para conseguir una limpieza
ecaz, utilice los siguientes parámetros:
• Lave previamente a temperatura ambiente durante 4 min.
• Lavados enzimáticos con un agente de limpieza enzimático durante 4 min.
• Lave a 60 °C con un agente de limpieza de pH neutro durante 3 min.
• Aclare con agua caliente durante 20 segundos.
• Seque a 95 °C durante 5 min.
9. Después de la limpieza automática, siga las instrucciones de inspección a continuación.
Limpieza manual
Limpiar antes y después de cada uso:
1. Fije bien la tapa protectora sobre el conector del cable del control remoto manual.
2. Realice un primer baño de remojo en un detergente de pH neutro, como CIDEXPLUS, durante
15 minutos (o una solución descontaminante equivalente) y reérase a las instrucciones del
descontaminante para determinar el tiempo de inmersión y la temperatura del baño.
3. Realice cinco (5) movimientos hacia adelante y hacia atrás con un cepillo tipo torunda sobre todas
las supercies, prestando particular atención a los botones, los tornillos del lado de atrás y la unión
en torno a los laterales.
4. Compruebe que no quedan residuos y elimine los que encuentre.

6. Aclare con agua desionizada durante 30 segundos a temperatura ambiente.
7. Seque con aire médico a menos de 100 °C durante 30 segundos.
Inspección después de la limpieza
1. Inspeccione todos los instrumentos antes de su esterilización y almacenamiento para asegurarse de
que la suciedad se ha eliminado por completo de supercies y oricios.
2. Si algunas zonas son difíciles de inspeccionar visualmente, compruebe si quedan restos de sangre
sumergiendo o mojando el instrumento en una solución con un 3 % de peróxido de hidrógeno. Si se
aprecia un burbujeo, signica que aún quedan restos de sangre.Aclare a fondo después de utilizar
la solución de peróxido de hidrógeno.
3. Si aún queda suciedad, vuelva a limpiar el instrumento.
ESTERILIZACIÓN
• El control remoto manual viene sellado de fábrica y puede esterilizarse completamente en autoclave.
• Utilice un esterilizador de vapor homologado, con un mantenimiento y calibrado adecuados.
• Para conseguir una esterilización de vapor ecaz utilice un ciclo de vacío previo de 132 °C durante
4minutos.
ADVERTENCIA: estas recomendaciones no garantizan que el dispositivo sea estéril después
del procedimiento. La institución es responsable de la validación de la esterilidad.
MANTENIMIENTO
• Inspeccione todo el equipo y los cables periódicamente para comprobar que no están gastados. En
caso de observar daños, vuelva a colocar el equipo en el embalaje y envíelo de vuelta al Centro de
reparación.
• Todas las reparaciones deben ser realizadas por un ingeniero biomédico cualicado.
• Limpiar y desinfectar después de cada uso.
